River Ridge High School is located in the city of Woodstock, 30 minutes north of Atlanta and is a part of the Cherokee County School District. Cherokee County is home to six high schools, with River Ridge serving as the school district’s newest school.

River Ridge opened in the fall of 2009, serving only 9th grade students in its inaugural year and shared educational space with Mill Creek Middle School, located on the same educational complex as the high school. River Ridge High School’s building formally opened and was dedicated in the fall of 2010 with a 9th and 10th grade class. Since that time, the school has grown to just over 1,700 students.

The River Ridge Band Program began very modestly and served 22 students during the 2009-10 school year. Since that time, the band program has grown to serve over 180 students on campus. The school's band program is exclusively by Mill Creek Middle School, with the middle school band program meeting on an A and B day block rotation.
