Like a floor sander lmao
Why not use rafters on a barndominium
Another great video. Nice job, guys!
Thank you, Deana! 😊
Sounds like Bo is ready to help😊
Always! 😂
Good question, Beth! 😊
🤣 I usually have questions… 😂
Nice slo mo edit, Beth!
Thanks! 😁
Running the planer sure seems like tedious work! Nice to have help!!
Tedious, heavy and definitely a workout! 😁
It’s definitely taking shape!
For sure- can’t wait to share it in the next video- looks so cool! 😁
Nice to have cooler weather to work in!
Definitely! 😁
Good evening from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. First time to your channel. Great job on the timber framing. 🇺🇸
Welcome and thank you for checking us out! 😁
Nice level on drill trick. I just drill both sides and meet in the middle. Looking good.
Wow it just looks so good!!!
Thank you, Heather- It’s really coming together! 😊
I’m so glad the occupants of this fine structure will be humans. To think this effort was originally intended for the accommodation of animals! Lovely work Greg and excellent visual documentation by Beth. I’m loving the show.❤
🇳🇴👍👍👌
Thank you, Morten! 😁
Looking really good. You are accumulating some cool tools and experience using them. I hope that you will be able to repay in kind all of the people that are helping with the build. I have a friend that we help each other on projects. The collaboration makes both of us better. We share tools and ideas on our projects. Running out of steam is tough. But at least you have your day job to go to and recover! LOL Thanks for bringing us along.
❤looking good
Thank you, Butch! 😊
simply awesome job!
Thank you so much! 😊
Taking shape sir. And, you are certainly able to drop the gym membership now. Getting paid to stay in shape or save money is a great deal. The beautiful environment is a real plus as well. Thoughts on RIPPER 37's? Send your rain down to northern California, we could use the help.
Hi! I must have missed this info on previous videos, but is there a reason not to roof the main structure thus giving you a dry work surface/area underneath? Thanks!
Great job and a lot of work 👍.
Great progress. Thanks for taking us along
should'n't you think about cutting the end of the diagonal bean to the degree to accept the faca board so your gutters are square?
These side pieces (lean to) are really beginning to let the structure take shape - love that we can see the different spaces - can't wait for the other side! Definitely a bummer that we ran out of steam at the end, but it happens - especially in this heat! 🥵Hope you enjoy this video! 😊
Howdy y’all- I certainly understand what running out of steam is like. With the heat we’re having it can sap the energy right out of you. Y’all are doing great and it looks good. Take care and God bless
Put a 6x.188 flat bar 20" long on the out side connection pre drilled. for bolts?
Wow impressive. So precise measures and cuttings that its not time consuming. Its helpful coz theres only two of you.. Thanks for the video.
PRETTY STUFF, nice work sir.
👎👎👎 Shorts? No Thanks! 👎👎👎
What’s done with the excess wood that was trimmed off?
It’s mostly used as firewood - some is used for projects. 😁
How long did this take? (Just wondering)
Hi, about 45 minutes. If you include the edging (which we didn’t show) about an hour and fifteen minutes. Check out our long form videos if you want to see more! 😁
Loved watching this. Great team work. Making a dangerous job go smoothly. Kudo's to you all
Thank you so much- it was a great day! Love your username btw! Something I would say to my kids! 😂
If you watch RR Buildings videos, they build big Post Frame buildings. They use chains with Binders to move the structure around to hold it square, and plumb, until they an get the rest of the frame work and roof/siding on.
Erik and I are RR Building fans. Seems like his buildings have a little more “give” than this structure. Things are staying pretty true so far. 😁
Another cool build video. Not sure if I like the build more or the milling more. Guess I’ll have to watch more of both to make my mind up. Looking really good.
Thank you, Matthew- both are pretty cool! It’s still crazy to think that we are building a house with Timbers that we milled mostly from trees on our property. So cool! 😁
👍🏴
Thank you! 😊
Thank you, Kevin! 😁
I really enjoy your project……….but in my opinion it can be one of the most boring videos on KZread. Sure my opinion means nothing in the scheme of things, but surely others can agree that you could make these videos more interesting by adding voice overs explaining the what, why and when, in particular when you are trying to jam a bit of wood into a bracket with footage that consumes way too much of the video. Or another option is to show it in fast forward if it is not that important or do Timelapse. This will always be super interesting to family because they know the subjects, but for the majority of your audience it becomes boring as hell. Please do not think that what I say is gospel. I have no idea and respect you taking in this mammoth project. However from my perspective. Your videos would be so much more interesting if you refined what you are presenting by the way you edit the video. Cut or speed up the boring stuff, and focus on the stuff that maters by either showing or talking about the why, what when. If you manage to do this please teach me how.
Thank you for the constructive feedback. Always a hard balance between getting work done and videoing what we are doing. In this video we are just trying to figure things out- being novice do it yourself’ers. Then Greg goes to his regular job (10 hour shifts) and doesn’t feel like doing voice overs. Beth is left with whatever raw footage Greg shot to make a video. Excuses, excuses. You planted the seed and we can do better 😁
After seeing it in person, I’m even more excited to watch the project progress! So happy for you guys! 🌲
Thank you, Deana- so nice to have you here visiting! 😊

Aww, love to see Beth and Bo in the video. 💜
Thank you! 😊
“Don’t look at Erik” lol
There’s probably a lot of that off camera! 😳
@@ourdreaminthewoods 😅🙃😂
“Duh” 😂Love the discussions between you and Erik😊
We pretty much think things out- out loud- this time, we decided to share it. Glad you enjoyed it! 🤣
@@ourdreaminthewoods for sure!
Excited for the next one! 😊
Thank you! 😊
Check it off that cut list! 🥳
Yes! 👍
Muddy mess, I think your plan to debark was a good one😊
It definitely was! 😂
Nice to have a product that makes the job easier!
Definitely! 😁
Nice to have help from the family!
Definitely! 😊
Looking great gentlemen. Accuracy is always an anxiety builder. Take your time. Grab yourself a 16oz plumb bob and some good quality Mason line. Cut 2 small blocks, same thickness, 3/4" and plummet your posts both ways. It's the most accurate way. Levels and lasers are always questionable and the accuracy is dependent on price, calibration, and engineering tolerances and distances. I always used my old school, American made David White builders level or my Japanese Nikon even doing inside work like cabinetry. Thin diameter dacron fishing line etc. 1/32" or less over 50'. Another outstanding video. Vertical timber, no bark.
Thank you, Todd- I need to add a plumb bob to my equipment list! I don’t think my 6 foot level (that came in a three pack) is super accurate either. The other thing is the Timbers are not the perfect specimen either. Plumb on the outside- little off on the inside. Doing the best we can with what we have- always room for improvement and better techniques! 😁
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching! 😊
Howdy y’all- wow, it’s taking shape. Everything y’all put up just keeps adding to the looks of the building. Take care and stay safe. God bless
Hi, Paul- Thank you! Taking shape- hope to have the rest of the side pieces up this weekend. Then we’ll be able to see the whole structure- can’t wait. Take care! 😊
Going to be ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS
Thank you so much! We sure hope so! 😁
Enjoyed the video and impressed with the definition today's progress gives to us viewers of the dimensions and shape of your home.
Hi, Terry- Thank you! Fun for us to feel the areas of the house. Super cool to see what things are going to look like. 😁
This is going to be a beautiful barn/house. You are doing awesome. Just a suggestion. Set the first and the last - or both ends. Run a string line and and set the other 6 to the string. Same with the rafters.
I agree. Using a string line will result in a straight side to the building. It will let you adjust for any amount that the center bent might be off from plumb.
Hi, Todd and Mike- We did put up a string line and then plumbed up the post (after compensating for elevation off the bracket). Then measured for the beam length to make it flush with the post. Seems to be keeping pretty straight. 😁
Great job, looks good 😊.
Thank you! 😊
