I just discovered this video today. Great topic! As kid playing the wheels on the Asbury Park boardwalk in the '70s, I never realized the intricacies you pointed out, especially the deception of how they are painted in ways which make you think some of the choices are easier outcomes. I learned a lot today! Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm and wisdom! Boardwalk amusements are a fond part of my childhood memories! ☺

I am a lifelong fan of the Walt Disney World Railroad, and I agree that sadly now even the railroad is not what it used to be. The locomotives have now been fitted with computer systems which are supposed to make the job easier for the crews operating them, but in fact have made the overall operation and reliability of the trains more complicated. Because of this, it is not unusual to have just one train in operation now a days. My take is, the trains had operated just fine for 50+ years, why computerize them now? It just feels so wrong to put a computer system on a turn of the century steam locomotive. One of the changes that has bothered me the most over the years is how the railroad now closes everyday at 6:00 p.m. no matter how late the park is open. Since 2005 the latest the trains would run is 8:30 p.m. Not the best but at least you had a short time to enjoy riding the trains in the evening especially in the winter months. Randy, I'm sure you remember during your time how the trains would run up to an hour after park closing as a consideration to guests to get them to the front at Main Street Station to exit the park. I really miss those times as there's nothing quite like riding an old steam train late into the night, and Walt Disney World was one of the only places you used to be able to have such an experience.

@@gregorymuller7313 when I was Main Street Operations, I would fill in on Steam Trains if needed... One of my fondest memories on Steam Trains was late night runs. I remember sitting at the Frontierland Station, (the original one), all alone to wait for the next trip around where I would take the conductor position. At that point there would be 1 train only, and it was about 12 minutes for the round trip.... Often times it would be only me and no guests, and I enjoyed the frontierland music in the warm summer night, as most guests were on main Street for the Electrical Light Parade and exiting. The last trip of the evening started at Main Street at midnight which was closing, and some of us would give our "closed at this time" presentation spiel just for that last trip... We would announce all the area attractions as passing by and add the phrase, "which are now closed at this time"... By the time we reached Main Street, everyone in the train knew I would say, "which is now closed at this time", and the final announcement was, "and now we are pulling into Main Street Station... The Main Street Station, the Walt Disney Story, the Penny Arcade, and the Main Street Cinema are now Closed at this time! Bye bye Folks!" Everything had personality back then... Things were not just mechanical without thought. I consider myself extremely blessed to have been then when everything was so special. @@MainStreetRANDYLAND Yes indeed you were blessed to experience such a great time at Walt Disney World. Thank you so much for sharing that memory you had on the railroad. The original Frontierland Station was the best! If only they could have figured out a way to keep it. It's interesting you would mention the music that played there in particular. I have been searching for the Frontierland area music from when the original Frontierland Station was there to no avail.... I truly believe that up to a certain point in time, Walt would have been very proud of Walt Disney World the way it used to be and with dedicated and talented cast members like you. Sadly the same cannot be said of the Walt Disney World, and Disney in general of today. Ironically I moved a year ago with the idea of being closer to WDW, but have had no desire to visit even with the railroad back in operation and for me that's saying a lot because the trains have always been one of my biggest draws about Walt Disney World.

Big joke for 6 balls that look plastic no less. Great video Randy keep up the classic nostalgia as long as you can!!!

Easy to see the difference between an owner operator who cares about his business and employee who does not... I have witnessed Randy fire up the water pistol gorilla race at the end of the night for my Son Vincent 6 years old when he was the only one who wanted to play at the time... next thing I knew there was a small crew playing consisting of a few more of my gang and some other guys and Randy had this big cast iron bell ringing to celebrate the winner at about 1am on the boardwalk... I was the guy who hacked skee ball at my local arcades. Only took 4 tries. But you gotta hack different for every machine. To do this complicated task, you need... a doorstop. Just... a wedge of wood. Put it flat against the side rail, then roll the ball down the rail. Dial in the trajectory. Once it curves to that bullseye one, you're golden. You removed all aiming. Now its just rolling it at the correct strength.

One feature I always liked about ice ball is that it counts how many balls it despenses at the start of a game, and counts each ball that comes back after it's been scored. If the game knows it's short on balls, it will re- dispense balls that have already been played to make up the difference. For example, if the game only has 8 balls, it will spit the first ball thrown back out. This way you have 8 balls again so at the end you will have played 9 balls.

  • @MainStreetRANDYLAND
