    Beautiful messages! Wish people weren't so judgmental and ableist, isolating and excluding people with disabilities should never be okay.

    OPWDD is racist and ableist. If you are a disabled immigrant or a POC and couldn’t get diagnosed as a kid or afford it as a young adult, they WILL NOT HELP YOU. Their cutoff for diagnosis is 22 years old and after that, you’re on your own. This system disproportionately favors educated, middle-class Americans who were fortunate enough to get evaluated from a young age. I am autistic, unemployed, cannot drive, and have level 2 support needs and several learning disabilities. According to my therapist and case worker, most of the supports I need can only be received through OPWDD. I should’ve gotten help from when I was younger, and I remember begging my teachers for help or accommodations, but they couldn’t do anything without my parents’ permission. This was back in the 90s and 00s, before girls were even believed to be autistic! OPWDD’s Front Door refused to help me or my case worker, because I was only diagnosed as an adult, even though teachers recommended my parents do it from when I was in elementary school! My religious poc family ignored them and abused me, and I am still stuck with my abusive family because they’re the only people I can rely on! OPWDD only cares about disabled people whose parents cared enough to get them diagnosed in childhood! Everyone else can go kick rocks! My disabilities are lifelong, they don’t have a cutoff! If I kill myself now, it’ll be more help than OPWDD ever gave me.

    Sex is not understood, it’s instinctual. Not every human being is called to marriage marriages gift, but even people with the most significant disabilities could have a calling for marriage.

    Make sure you ask who Lawrence Taube was, and why his brutal beating and death on 2/13/2012 was covered up by Gov Andrew Cuomo, his ladder-climbing-jizz-soaked OPWDD Dir Courtney Burke, and her frequent liar and chief employee threatener - Western Regional Director Michael Feeney.. Ask how the three of them used HIPPA and the CSEA labor union and the Monroe Co coroner's office to turn a blatant murder crime scene into a "possible HR abuse case" that got dismissed and never saw a single press release nor legal contest - all by design. Ask how the Taube family was paid hush money and legally gagged. Corruption at this level is illegal in even the most corrupt governments in the world, like Venezuela and The Ukraine!!! But it's all fair game here in Cuomo and Hochul's Albany!

    It’s just better to have labels. Everyone should have labels on every type of relationship with a particular person especially when it comes to boundaries I’m talking about professional relationships, coworkers, acquaintances, etc. and friends and what you can’t do or won’t do with these type of friends except your closest ones and what your type of woman or man you rather be with be honest don’t be afraid to tell someone I compare them or reveal what type of people you’re attracted to and what you’re not attracted to and there’s someone trying to hit on you but they’re not very obvious they find them unattractive or you don’t really like them because they come off creepy if they ask you what you’re into or if you have a boyfriend or girlfriend tell them kind of give them hints that their body type without actually telling them directly is what you find unattractive personality or looks as well then they won’t ask you out and try to have sex with you or coercion into it. I think the problem is a lot of us don’t pick up the red flags so we’re brutally honest or blunt and tell them the truth that we do not want them or their attention or their just a friend and that will never change or acquaintance and that you have certain boundaries of things you don’t want to do with them and they don’t really respect that or try to manipulate you tell them directly I don’t wanna be friends with you if you will not respect me, or like I’ve made up my mind I am not going to change my mind so give up and please stop. I’m not going to hug you a lot or at all. Maybe it’s best if we’re not friends.

    What about consent and ability to consent within family relationships? How can coercion and bullying be prevented when the family has dominion over a person. Going straight to sex issues before addressing the idea of general interpersonal consent gives a false impression that people only have control of the big sex issue without acknowledging that consent occurs in many subtle situations in everyday family life. Also, please address how a person not able to give consent protects themself. Who speaks for them? Who protects them? Thanks for listening to my musings. 😇🚂 Maybe together we can build a better group home. 👍

    There’s no need for there to be strict consent in family relationships with your mother or father or siblings cousins but if one of them start doing things that’s considered incest like sexual stuff reported to your family members and try to get that person help not tell them it’s wrong you must ask to touch people like that, but you’ve never do that your family members no! Get them serious help! 988 crisis Center

    When will NY state pay parents to be care givers so we don’t have to leave our children with strangers? This makes no sense not to be in place! I have to go to work and leave my disabled child with an underpaid aide just to scrape by. When I could be staying home caring for my child and being paid instead. The California model is working. What is the delay?

    Great video but the reality is that OPWDD places too much emphasis and resources on bureaucracy related roles while there are all too few frontline service providers, and even fewer quality service providers, and almost none for older people with disabilities and/or low functioning. While well meaning, OPWDD needs to cut the bureaucratic nonsense and reallocate resources to address the glaringly inadequate lack of frontline staff and programs.

  • @ChristopherSchulman
    @ChristopherSchulman7 ай бұрын

    OPWDD’s leadership is subpar and pathetic. They treat the frontline staff as slaves. Working them around the clock, 1,2,3,4, 5+ shifts. No proper protocols in place. They foster a hostile and toxic work culture.
