The US keeps issuing warnings against travelling to certain destinations, when the crime rate in so many states is sky high. Maybe there aren't many petty thieves or harassrs, but there is an abundant number of stalkers, rapists, school shooters and murderers. I was conned and threatened then released while in Tijuana, but I was stalked, held at gunpoint and dealt with deeply corrupt police in LA. Maybe they wanna shut down the competition. They also issue warnings on Egypt for terrorism when there is zero. You can get scammed in tourist destinations, or harassed by vendors and some guys in specific areas, but the country is ridiculously safe.

People watch too many stereotypical movies and shows about crime in Mexico which can be true to reality but people should know they’re only telling stories to attract an audience which is why we always see the bad side of the country and not the upside.

From my experience, even if you do speak some Spanish, it is better not to speak Spanish with the police (or immigration upon arrival). There will be less conversation to be had since they don't speak your language and they will move on sooner rather than later. To the corrupted police, say in English you want the ticket and will pay at the office. Even better turn on your camera as soon as you are stopped and make sure the policeman can see you have a camera on. In addition only roll down your window just enough and not all the way down. If the situation does not end quickly, call the police and get other officers involved.

Bucerias is beautiful but a little too expensive for me. I have been living in Mexico for 2 1/2 years and traveled to 7 Mexican states within the past year. Bucerias was on my list, but I did not get a chance to make it there. I’m glad you found your spot to live as I have. Mexico is a beautiful country!

My home closing is in two days and I just bought my one way ticket to live in San Miguel while I travel the country to explore its many treasures. I have sold or am in the process of selling/giving away/throwing away almost everything. Just a 10x10 ft storage to save the most precious things and I am giving it one year for my grown daughters to absorb what they wish. If I eventually buy a place I will perhaps ship a few things down. It is both daunting and thrilling - mostly I am excited, just hard to leave my younger daughter and her babies who live near me right now. Spent time on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, love the beach but too hot for me to live on a coast. Hung out in Oaxaca City for a while and realized I needed to become proficient in Spanish to make it a permanent home. So, soft landing in San Miguel for at least a year while I learn the language. Sept 14th is my blast off date. I love to hear everyone else's thoughts and experiences :)

one thing i notice about when white americans move to mexico and move to beach front areas. they expect that the beach area is their back yard and put up fences and walls to block off people from their supposed back yards. if they read mexican laws, they are not allowed to block off beach areas which are public. and not only that, they are not even allowed to own property 200 miles from the beach area to inland. it's against mexican laws for foreigners to own property 200 miles from the beach. im really surprised state and national government of mexico does not enforce this law. and the most funny part of it, you have these foreigners thinking they are legal somehow with tourist visas trying to buy property and land in mexico.

Non residents, non citizens, people who don’t even have green cards etc, they still pay taxes. Even when they don’t get government benefits. They do it on an EIN or they find another way. They don’t come to the US and mooch off our system like you make it sound in the beginning

People who crossed the border illegally can receive free or low-cost health care even if they do not earn any income. California has policies and programs designed to ensure access to health care for all residents, regardless of their immigration status or income level. Like you said, many illegal immigrants earn income and pay into the system.

Fantastic editing and post-production Paul! It's been awhile since I've seen a video just dedication to the marine life in the Bahia (Bay). The photography was excellent and really showcased some amazing drone shots and underwater camera work. Did Larry supply the shots of the whales under the water, or did you brave the warm waters for that? Keep up the fantastic, and respected effort.

Biggest problem with Mexico (apart from crime, corrupt police and infrastructure) is the high-carb, high-insulin food. Most retired people are pre-diabetes or insulin resistant already. Asia clearly is the way to go.

We used to go to Puerto Peñasco, Sonora . It’s the upper most point in the Sea of Cortez where some whales go to have their babies since it’s the warmest point. When we did our first whale excursion I was expecting it to be cool but then when we came across these amazing creatures of God , along with the dolphins and birds …… it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my life .
