    hey.. Nice tutorial. quick question: sometimes (especially with complex models) The ID map I get have small errors. Usually in the small islands. Islands with no colors or with the colors a little bit shifted to the side. Any tips por that? I tried play with the setup in the Textools with no avail . Thanks!

    Thank you so much! I spent several days looking for how to use a portable Blender on Mac. Your way is working perfectly! In Mac OS it will be: users > [username] > Library > Application Support > Blender > 3.1 (here will be your version), where Christina has AppData > Roaming on PC. You need to copy your version of Blender in .dmg format to your desired place and then double click to open and the Blender icon will appear and tell you to move it to Application folder, so DO NOT DO THAT, BUT right-click an icon "Show Package content" > MacOS > Blender - click it and open a Blender app). After that, you need to create a new 'config' folder on the path /Users/[username]/[some folder]/Blender/Blender 3.1.2/Contents/Resources/3.1/config If you don't see Library folder because it is usually hidden, go to Finder > Go > Go to Folder and write ~/Library and hit Enter. That's it! :) I hope my comment will help someone :)

    Great explanation. I already knew most of this but I have been using blender for 20 years now and it took me a LONG time before I realized the difference between these three maps. But you gave a great explanation for beginners I wish I had seen this 20 years ago when I was first starting with 3d software. It would have solved a lot of confusion.

    Cool tutorial ... Just a question why not baking the ID map directly in substance using the "mesh ID / polygroup" option (I use ramdom and set the tolerance of the selection tools to 0) ?

  • @ChristinaMcKay
    @ChristinaMcKay2 жыл бұрын

    I didn't even know that option exists in SP, thank you very much for the tipp. I am just relearning Substance and go with what is still available in my damaged memory. This is a method I used for a long time and it works for other apps as well. Chris was asking about this and couldn't get it to work. I have to try that out in SP.

    I don't have "Set origin to selected" in my dynamic context menu for blender 3.1. :( None of the options that I do have work to set the origin to the 3d cursor. Can you please help me? When I select a group of vertices, the default origin is the center of mass. How do I change that?

  • @ChristinaMcKay
    @ChristinaMcKay2 жыл бұрын

    Hi. I Just checked. The option is still there in 3.1 for me: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fXhos7F8g7q1iLA.html But you can't change the default behaviour afaik..

    @@ChristinaMcKay Due to lack of hardware, from 2.8 onwards. And there have been so many changes that it is not worth continuing with 2.79. Since 2013 I used and followed the evolution of this wonderful program and its fantastic community. Now I'm fully involved with Inkscape, which I also love the vector world.

    I don't understand why use displacement map when you can't use it on low poly mesh? instead of that we could use high poly mesh directly with all details.

  • @fuglong
    @fuglong2 жыл бұрын

    You use normal maps on low poly mesh iirc. You make a high poly version, add surface details, then bake into normal map and delete the high poly version. Then your low poly has high poly details

    Thanks for making this video. Gosh, I wish someone would make an Addon to manage Addon profiles. Like the user profile for all of Blender but dedicated to just the addons. It would be great to flip between different Addon activation for Modeling, Texturing, animation, and so on. I like to keep a lean Blender for load time and overhead. Thanks again for the video
