    Can u do this 2 popcorn ceiling ( another ugly idea)

  • @zackcrafted
    @zackcrafted7 күн бұрын

    Hi, Good question, I have done it before but sometimes it depends on the popcorn, if it’s raw (unpainted/primed) and you try and skim coat it it might not adhere, but if it is painted you should be able to just skim coat over it. Another option I do sometimes is add 1/2” drywall, depending on the situation

    Im getting ready to do my shower. I decided on 12 x 24 as well. Issue here is tile company recommended 3/16 grout lines but I don’t like that. What size lines are those? I’m a bit worried if I got 1/16 and something comes off 😂 I’ll be using the self leveling system as well and it’s non rectified. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Oh yaaa, better late then never I guess! Glad it helped, it’s a time saver for sure! Depending how rough the walls are too, sometimes I rip them right out, or add drywall over them if the space allows.

    Would contact cement work to glue a mirror onto a metal medicine cabinet box? Or, is liquid nail glue better? The contact cement could be attached to both surfaces, the mirror and the metal frame, then dry for about 20 to 30 minutes. I think the advantage is you only have to contact the two surfaces together momentarily for the mirror to permanently attach to the metal box. The mirror fell off of the metal medicine cabinet box after over a decade, and luckily the mirror didn’t break or crack.

  • @zackcrafted
    @zackcrafted7 күн бұрын

    Ah good question, I think it’d work fine.. you could always add a few, very thin, lines of liquid nails. I’d just check to see what the contact cement can adhere too

    I searched for a video that would show me how to do this exact DIY, but once I started watching I couldn't help but laugh. It wasn't the information that cracked me up--that was great and really easy to follow--it's that the bathroom you're working on is the exact duplicate of my bathroom--same window, same tub, toilet in the same place, and best of all, the exact same 1960's glue up tile in the exact same color scheme. My house is a 1925 Craftsman that was unfortunately "modernized" in 1960.

  • @zackcrafted

    Oh wow! That’s funny, ya I’ve come across these tiles a few times, but to get the same layout and everything must be rare. Too bad yours had the ‘update’ I’d love an old craftsman style house!

    It almost looks like dormered houses. You should make another dormered house in between and make it taller than the ones beside it. Maybe even add a miter to the sides to bump it a half inch proud of the baseboard next to it.

    I’m about to tackle this but my house is 140 years old and bathroom floor is not level. Subfloor is covered in concrete. Do I need to use the Schluter membrane?

  • @zackcrafted
    @zackcraftedАй бұрын

    Anything that old is a fun adventure that’s for sure! So it’s a wooden subfloor with concrete ontop? Potentially self leveller? I’d make sure first there’s a substantial subfloor under the concrete, and then I would still use the Schluter ditra membrane regardless, for the cost of it it will provide extra insurance and decrease the chances of any vertical movements cracking your tile or popping the grout. If your build up too high, which is likely, you might consider removing the concrete skim coat, and maybe even the plan subfloor and replacing it with plywood, and probably resupporting and stiffening the joists. Overkill while you’re in the midst of it! Good luck!

    What material are you mixing to create the mud? I have a large piece of OSB primed with a KILZ veneer primer. I want to create a stucco appearance on it before I stick a wooden world map to it.

  • @zackcrafted
    @zackcraftedАй бұрын

    Hi, I’ve used just a drywall mud compound. For your application I’m not sue what would be the best idea, you could try drywall all purpose, sprinkle it on, wait for it to dry and then you’d have to prime and paint it. I’m just not sure if it would stick to a wood based product… as wood expands and contracts a lot Maybe test an area before you commit to the full thing! Good luck!

    Looks great. I'm thinking of tackling my own batbroom floor with 2" hexagon mosaic. I heard anything under 2" size should not have Ditra, but I am trying to avoid cement board. How is yours holding up 3 years later?

  • @zackcrafted
    @zackcraftedАй бұрын

    Thanks! Ya I was back and forth on if I should use it for 2” x 2” tiles I used, and decided to go for it. It’s holding up fine, I mixed my thinset a bit more stiff, so there was less squeeze out. I think I would have been equally confident in structurally sound plywood too

    this is a band aid for a condition that requires a more in depth procedure. this will cover up moisture penetration for the short term. while simultaneously trapping moisture within the wall which will continue to erode and expedite it's failure. there is no cheap fix for foundation damage. it begins with PREVENTING the moisture form getting to the foundation. the outside is where it begins. the inside is secondary. make sure you tell the owner the reality, no matter how much they dont wanna hear it. non disclosure can lead to walls failing. in this particular situation, when the damage is 4+ feet up the wall, there is damage to the footing, which is coming through. it has to be addressed by exposing the footing on the outside and going through the process of waterproofing as needed. fix cracks, moisture barrier/membrane, drainage away from footing, backfill, compaction, sealing, etc. then hit the inside
