    The story about the test ofen and temperature limits reversed reminds me of a story a friend told me.. At the time he was studying electrotechnical engineering and financed his life by installing medical equipment for doctors. Like heart monitors and similar. He described the usual experience at a doctors office that the doctor would assemble all nurses and assistents and having them take notes of the whole explanation the technician gives. But when he arrived like 14 days later for a checkup and maybe corrections to the setup of the machine he would inevitably find either sticky notes but more commonly tiny scraps of plaster glued to the surface next to controls and arrows indicating the most common settings to be used - and years later he'd learn that the machine only ever was used at these standard settings and never adjusted to match the actual patients conditions (like weight) .. you wonder how we developed that sophisticated equipment but at the same time the persons using them never adapted

    S1 OP MADE A HUGE MISTAKE. He already knew Jason was a BH. Why confess that mornings won't do? Ask Jason what times suit him, saying to GF in an undertone that "I hope he doesn't say afternoon" Also there are so many banks and branches around. If Jason is a BH, why not try another branch ( same bank) or another bank altogether?

    Story 1) I wouldn't be surprised if their network was created in the old days and just got expanded over time as is, with either time, cost or 'if it ain't broke' preventing any changes. Something similar seems to be the case with my employer, given the time IT once misconfigured one of our devices and they had it connected to a different store's server......sometimes I wonder what a hacker would make of our network if they just knew our IP range.

    A company I worked for was being bought out by another company. As time went on I was required to do less and less. I finally told my superiors that I was going to quit. My reason being that self respect would keep me from being payed for what I did not deserve. They asked me to stay. I was still a keyman. Five months later they severenced me 3 months. I then went back to being valuable. I have no respect for people who would take pay for no work.

    I once printed the entire registry of patients with AIDS in Washington State to a printer on the wrong floor of my building, a printer belonging to people who most definitely did not have clearance to view the list. This was back in the 90s when AIDS epidemiology was politically fraught (for instance we had instructions on what to do if the office was attacked by a particular group of extremists who were trying to publicly expose AIDS registries in various cities and states). Fortunately I was able to get to the printer before anybody handled the print-out, wait until it finished printing, and drag it back to my floor.

    Yeah, honestly if I need to keep a company authenticator app on my phone in order to keep my job, I should be able to charge the company digital rent on my phone. That's storage space that *I'm* not using, my *Employer* is, on my personal device.

  • @HKlink

    My phone has 250 GB storage and Microsoft Authenticator is 100 MB. That's 0.04% of my storage. My device cost $700. Even if claiming that the entire storage is the entire value of the entire phone, I'd be getting $0.24 in rent over the lifetime of my device. I think I'd rather just charge my phone at work and call it even.

Especially when that 100mb is actively performing important functions for that company? You could easily charge 25¢ per day, not over the life of the device.

As the evening goes on all of the seats get taken. So you have to hunt more for an empty one. And the next patron has to wait until you're seated before he can hunt.

    I had a credit card bill, paid the bill as it was sent to me. It ended up with a 59 cent credit. This card was being cancelled. COntacted them after receiving a statement for 2 month. THey said they didn't do refunds under a dollar, that I should donate it. I said no. The next statement showed the 59 cents gone. I was a little perturbed. The next month I got the statement again with a note saying the customer service person that donated the 59 cents was terminated as on the phone recording I said no. Called them back to see if they would restart the card, they said no. THen asked me if I wanted to go to electronic statements. I told them no and have been getting monthly statements with the 59 cent credit for the last 4 years. I will never get it stopped. LOL

    I hate MFA. I do genealogy work for other people. In the past, to access their Ancestry account, I just needed their user ID and password. I could work on their genealogy any time, day or night. Now they have MFA, which makes my work impossible. If I log into someone else's account, Ancestry sends a code to their phone, even when I'm working at 2AM. They aren't going to send me the code before it expires. Yes, I can get added as an editor, but I really need to be logged in to their account in order to update their tree from Family Tree Maker, the software I do my work in. I can enter data ten times faster in FTM than in Ancestry and then export the tree to Ancestry. Now I can't do that.

    Story 3 - You want me to use my personal device for work. I'm sorry, unless you PROVIDE me with a work phone, specially for MFA purposes then I wont be using it, otherwise you are paying me to have it on my phone. Why, many MFA applications designed by companies have the companies thinking they have the right to have access to your personal phone's location services, not to mention other information apps can obtain from your phone; which they dont need to be having,

  • @Ryanthusar
    @Ryanthusar15 сағат бұрын

    @@sirBrouwer - It's more than likely her access level allows her to have that sort of access to outside printers. The issue is what was discovered, similiar names for printers. I worked in a company that was the same setup and the manager, not my direct one, had the ability to print to another office they worked in because their access was setup as such. Problem was, the office name was placed AFTER the printer name and if you were in a hurry to print, which that manager always was, they would grab that printer name from the list 6 out of 10 times. So, I made a suggestion to them to ask IT to rename the printers on the list with the office name first, IT of course came back asking "Why should this need to be done?" Which had not only me face-palming, but the manager and my direct manager when he was told. So I simply suggested that the manager reply back and keeping the conversation chain in check, CC the IT manager into the email since it wasnt them that replied, that if this was done this way it would stop a lot of problems of my manager wasting corporate resources because they were printing on a printer that was 150 kms away. The IT manager replied back saying that it would be done immediately.

    The story about setting up MFA .... well, first, my reaction to the comment about using Yubikee - it is NOT THAT SIMPLE - simply because corporate often refuses to pay for it. So now picture this; you have BIG corporate in energy sector and board member switching up from old device with W10 to a new one with Windows 11; part of user enrollment is setting up MFA. Well, guess what? A member of our country board of directors is using old cellphone (something like Nokia 3310 or very similiar - no touchscreen phone with Android or iOS). SO - no way in hell you can install any kind of MFA app on to that dinosaur. Yubikee? Nah, will not authorize the purchase (for one of the members of BOARD OF DIRECTORS). At that point I would simply said "not my issue anymore, handle it however you like"; then somehow personal assistant shows up and figure what? User had iPad somewhere, which he does not use - so we finally managed to get the MFA running via iPad ..... and cases like these, where unfortunately were no "not used" devices on which we could run MFA settings, were dozens - mostly corporate techs in the field. So yeah, the idea is good, but sometimes good ideas will burn like supernova when it crashes with reality.
