I was a Cummins technician at rally Dodge in Ocala. I used to work on the Tow vehicle and his personal caravan. He’s a great dude. I had a lot of fun working on stuff. An American legend.

I was working for LJ Drieling in Denver. LJ bought out my parents jeep store to open Denver jeep eagle. I was hired on as service manager and my dad was parts manager. This would have been mid 80's? I remember every year they sponsored the Mopar mile high nationals. Don walked in the shop one day with a Lamborghini giving rides. We talked for a few I was busy and he was signing stuff but what a good guy. Never forgot. I still have so many autographs and memories from that time. But never forgot what a nice day it was. If y'all ever can... See his museum. Amazing.

I feel such strong 90's nostalgia watching this even though I only recently got interested in yoyos. Why did the 90's feel so different from now? It's not the hair, the style, the video quality, it's the fact that no one had phones in their pocket and there was no social media. People went out into the world to do things a lot more like these guys. This video is fun all around.

Went to Florida from Seattle 2 weeks ago to the drag racing museum. We were fortunate enough to meet Mr. Garlits and talk with him for a few minutes. What a gracious gentleman. Still very sharp mentally at age 92. A thrill of a lifetime for a 64 year old kid like me. Been watching him since the sixties. Thanks Don.

Love this video! Some of it was taken at Fremont. I was there for those races. Just about every race Garlits was there since 1971 when I was a little boy. True story I want to share. Back in the 2000s I emailed Big Daddy and asked him what his fondest memory was of Fremont. I thought it might have been one of the AHRA races or another big win. No. In 1977 before the NHRA World Finals, Big and Shirley had back-to-back match races at Irwindale (Sat.) and Fremont (Sun). That Saturday he cut his finger really bad working on the car. They had to get another team to race Shirley. The next day they were at Fremont. Don's finger looked like a little mummy with all the gauze. Herb Parks had to cut a slice on the finger of Don's driving glove to accommodate the bandages. He went on to beat Shirley 2 out of 3. That was his fondest memory of Fremont, according to his email. There will never be another Big Daddy or Shirley. And there shouldn't.

I met “Big Daddy” and Shirley Muldowney January 31st. 1999. They raced each other for the last drag race of the 20th century. They were at Moroso Motorsports Park in Florida. That same day I also met and spoke to John Force and Harry Gant. What a day!!

Every once in a while as I watch Don speak he reminds me of Robert Duval. So sad he lost his wife. So many couples dont even make it past 5 years. He is a one of, And he deserves the tittle legend. He wears it well.
