    you may like Behringer because its cheap but Behringer does not target the professional intrumentalist, their more like sales people, is like the Aldi Of musical intruments, they will break down sooner or later, mine has on 3 occasions. You will also find that the logic chips will start failing and your illumination LEDS on the sliders will start to fail, that would be the first sign. The swithces are somewhat flimsy and the PCB is a very poor flexing chinese design, doing repairs I noticed a lot of dried soldered joints and sloppy work, markings of flux residue everywhere, dark spots, not very neat. This syth is also not an ideal live performing intrument on stage because it is very fiddley and cant see all buttons and knobs at a glance, the sliders make it more difficult to perform live, but as a studio or a hobby peice it is alright to have, becasue it is cheap, sound close to the Arp and prices have come down further on the them... Now imagine Roland or Yamaha Doing same thing, it would be pointless and shame to their name....and all musical intrumental palyers in the world would fail on stage...

    Thank you for this tutorial. My first week with Odyssey... To be honest; I wanted to return it after 2 days... and I'm not new to synths. Bought it on Friday and swore I'll took it back first thing on Monday... But Sunday jam... magic started to happen. Still far away from knowing what I'm doing... sometimes it will hold a tone indefinitely without even holding a key... and sometimes sound just cuts off when feeding it with sequencer... it is not broken probably... it's lack of my understanding analogue synthesis I guess. Wish there is someone who can explain me the signal path and what influences what... and in what order. Today I left it running for about an hour on the same sequence and sound was constantly evolving... making those 16 notes sound like a pro player.

    Yes there is someone, me! I teach this kind of stuff for a living. I can give you a complete run through of everything, even the weird stuff like the sample and hold mixer which is also for stuff that's funny enough, not sample and hold. I can take you one on one thru the complete basics to the most advanced. I generally charge about $50 pr hr, and we can easily do this on zoom. Thanks for recognizing this no talking video IS a tutorial. I introduce and explore concepts in order. I've been teaching/coaching studio engineers and synthesists about 25 years. There is just one thing on the Odyssey that I don't work with so I don't know it is the internal sequencer. I never find internal sequencers that are just notes very interesting. I love hardware and have tons of it but for sequencing, I'm a daw guy. The computer just does so much more. This is just my opinion though and I "get" the other side of things that whole dawless craze but I'm just not into it. Internal sequencer can be good for holding a loop during live performance. Also I don't know if you noticed but I have this Behringer Odyssey emergency guide as well. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hoyI2sSiZMyxc9Y.htmlsi=jt9QZaQ60JUm0sj-

    @@housebandthexenos2569 Thank you for the teaching offer. I will seriously consider it but first I need to spend some more alone time with it and maybe it's already time to get that Welsh's synth cookbook. I'm not using internal sequencer but Yamaha Tenori-on, because I did not take time to check the manual yet. Now I see how little I know about synthesis. One question if I may... Odyssey's PSU is plugged in a splitter with 10 plugs and running. Then I plugged phone charger in that splitter and sound drastically changed... is this normal? Any suggestions? Best regards.

  • @housebandthexenos2569
    @housebandthexenos25697 ай бұрын

    @@jitterbuba how much does it's sound change and what does it become? I'm not an electrical expert by any means but I can tell you having multiple items plugged into one wall outlet is exactly the way to go. Doing it any other way will create a ground loop in your audio as ground now will travel back through your gear to get to the other outlet. Notice I said outlet and not socket. Multiple sockets on the same outlet is fine. Plugging tons of stuff ganged with surge protectors seems the most par for the course way and I've been doing it for decades. You gotta remember how much a wall outlet or cord or surge protector can take is all about the amps. Can the tiny drain of a phone charger change the sound of the synth? hmm interesting. Many times with chasing electrical ghosts, like hum caused from a dimmer elsewhere in the house or a fridge without knowing about it, the only way to go is process of elimination or trying random stuff till eventually you find that if you just plug the fishtank in somewhere else... Change in tone can be crazy, and even changes day to day and hour to hour. I print mixes from analog mixers. Print one, then print again 2 hours later without touching anything, sounds diff. Should I buy better Furmans? Maybe lol but not that Neve 8816 summing mixer. Much Analog stuff is just raw and wild in its variation even from note to note for reasons I certainly can't explain sometimes lol. That's why we love it.

Having a 2 pole let's more of the stuff above the cutoff point thru, and that let's you hear more of the massive 6 osc stack's midrange detail to be heard. Thanks. It's really a great synth. Perhaps the best of the Behringer monos and I have most of them, including the 2600. The 2600 does a little more, sounds a little different, and has 3 oscillators but it's much slower to get around and only has 2 very similar sounding 24 db filter choices. The Odyssey can do most of what the 2600 does and does that without having to patch cables. It also has 3 filter choices. 2x 24 db filter choices and a 12 db filter. Having the 12 db filter as well effectively doubles the sounds you can make. I'll do one of these videos on the 2600 sooner or later but it's harder to be a pro at everything on it than the Odyssey, so I have to put more time into it's idiosyncrasies first.

    I don't know if they all do, but I can say I noticed after awhile that the sliders seem to be exponential. (at least on my early white led model) That means small changes at the bottom and big changes at the top. The original Odyssey may have been like this, I don't know. It's probably useful for working with the filters, where you want lots of resolution in the middle and bottom and don't need nearly as much at the top of the range. How does this effect headphone amp noise? Put up the oscillators in the mixer to 2/3 and VCA amplifier up about the same and play a few notes. Now raise the VCA slider the rest of the way up. The volume almost doubles! The oscillator sliders in the mixer are the same way. Once you are aware of this, you can do better gain staging and your headphone amp won't be amplifying a signal thats too low for it. It's not as important when going into higher quality line amps instead of the Odyssey's headphone amp. I should have put the gainstaging thing into this video, but I didn't realize it at the time I made this video, 2 days after getting it.
