FIVE-FOOT LYTH

FIVE-FOOT LYTH

Hi! I’m Sue, my maiden name is Lyth, I’m 5 feet tall. Join me in the great outdoors, on foot, by bike and sometimes in the water.

Here to inspire, uplift, and make you smile.

Mountains, camping, climbing, hiking, cycling, swimming. For those interested, I’ve completed the Scottish Munros twice, and the Corbetts. Plus a good handful of the Alpine mountains above 4,000 metres.

It’s well known that spending time outdoors is good for our health. But don’t just do it for your own peace. Take responsibility for leaving our beautiful outdoor spaces with no trace of your presence.

Enjoy the content!

Sue

    @@izzieosullivan4021 thank you Izzie, lovely to hear from you! Dave has suggested doing some reviews on our gear so when we’re back in the UK I’ll give it a go 😘 As for gear, the stuff I use all the time & can highly recommend are: I always use RAB sleeping bags, can be expensive but really comfy. I have 3 depending on the season. Take a look at Rab women’s Neutrino range for a good combination of lightweight/warmth. Their website has loads to offer & can take a bit of navigating but I never use any other bag. My best bit of lightweight kit is the RAB (I’m not sponsored by the way) Women’s Vapour-Rise jacket. It’s weight/warmth ratio is superb! I always use Paramo waterproofs. Not the lightest but they keep me dry at all times and last for years & years. For camping I use Paramo’s Grid Long Janes, they’re great as pyjama bottoms in the cold but also great as a warm under layer. I also use the Grid base layers. Finally, a shout out to Nemo for our tent, the Dagger. It’s ridiculously light for its size, we discovered a minor fault near one of the guy points & they immediately sent us a brand new tent so now we have 2! The Dagger is a 2 person tent but the DragonFly is worth a look too. Hope this is helpful, if you want any other info please do ask. All the best! Sue 😊

    Sue, I'm almost without words. This path was a dream - well literally at the end. How much beauty and wildness on display for you? As much as you could take in and even then you could take more. Warm but wondrous with the falls, the gnarly mountains and the Northern lights at the end. So, pleased you got your wish. Wow, you won't forget this trail. Fantastic. What's up next? All the best. Mark

    Hi Mark! Very happy that you enjoyed this one, as you say the whole day just felt like a beautiful dream ❤️ I can still feel it now, that half hour watching the Aurora. Sandwood Bay next, then the final stretch. We’re away in our van heading for Switzerland right now. I really do appreciate your comments. Thanks so much. All the best! Sue 🤗

    Do you know if there is a hut near the castor Peak because I had planned to climb castor but it is to far away from the cable car station and would not want to be stranded up there all night because of not being able to get back in time for the last cable car back to Zermatt

  • @FIVE-FOOTLyth
    @FIVE-FOOTLythАй бұрын

    Hi Darren. There is a bivouac hut - Rossi e Volante hut, however don’t know of any other huts from the Swiss side. The first cable car from Zermatt is very early and we had no problem making it back before the last one down, though the snow does get very soft and the last pitch to the summit was taking some people by surprise! You may already know, but a 50m rope is needed unless you’re very confident with a steep slope, I placed a couple of ice screws to protect it. Thanks, and Best of luck! Sue 🙂

    @@FIVE-FOOTLyth Thanks for the information that's good to know I can climb castor and make it back in time for the last cable car. I will be going back to Zermatt next year to have a try at the Matterhorn is July the best time of year for the Matterhorn the Matterhorn is on my list of climbs to do along with the Himalayan Matterhorn Ama Dablam

    @@darrensmith3796 Hi Darren. We always go end of July to very early August, August is busier due to holiday season and July is supposedly the best time for weather according to the guide books. There are always exceptions, we’re heading there now for 3 weeks and there has been major flooding in Zermatt! I’m no expert but the best advice I can give is to wait until the weather is perfect. Good luck 👍

    Angers me to see people leaving their crap in the countryside! Wow, every other video I've seen on the Cape Wrath trail has been non-stop wind and rain, you definitely got lucky! Shame about the ticks, blighters! I love how you all stayed in great spirits though! What a stunning camp on the Bay! Idyllic! Sorry to hear about the Tadpole, it served you well! Lovely sunset 🌇

    Thanks Matt. Yeah, I get the red mist every time I see crap lying around. Lazy tw##s 😡 I still can’t believe how lucky we were for most of it, altogether we had maybe a day and a half of rain in two weeks.. I reckon you must be just wonderfully used to the sun by now. Cheers 😎
