This is a fact in my department a white woman from Texas mid 60s who actually before a virtual conference call meeting began As soon as I logged on, I had my hair tied and some hope earrings and she said oh wow look at you you look like a homegirl. This is the same lady that asked to communicate or better communicate and extend that professional courtesy and she says oh you’re sassy today oh, you little aggressive today I can’t even deal makes me so upset and you’re correct. She is very good friends with my new boss. They’re even Facebook friends.

Im mid 30’s and the women you speak if horrify me. I have a couple of them that i work with and they’re one of the reasons im leaving the corporate sector. They might be trusted but they are passed on or by everyone for promotions. So they never advance they just stay vigilant for the company who doesn’t even like them. Sad stuff stay away from them.

Work for a SMALL corporation, and you'll be more valued. Also, don't use the term "micro-aggression". There is no such thing. Either someone said something harmful or they didn't, or you have thin skin. If it's the former, put them in their place and find somewhere that appreciates who you are and your work ethic. Quick story: I once put a manager in their place because they kept calling me by a pet name. I waited until it was just he and myself and I told him straight up "Don't ever call me that again." Didn't have any issues with him from that day forward. Just like your metaphor about high school, you've gotta put bullies in their place.

At a certain point it’s likability, how you dress, how you speak, who likes you and what kinda haircut you got that plays way more of a role than it should. Should it? Obviously not, but it does. It totally sucks but once you know the rules you can play the game better.

University is worth it with a plan. People especially black men should go for specialized skills training so that you have more leverage than your employer. STEM or bust basically otherwise get a trade like journey man, welding, electricians and plumbing.

So, you think skin color causes you to act a certain way? You think white coworkers don’t change their demeanor at work also? Best thing you can do is take skin color out of it, then find a job that doesn’t leave you mentally drained.
