Hey Guys!
Welcome to our channel. We’re a fun loving couple who just happen to be long distance. Arielle (Ari) is from the US and Callum (Cal) is from the UK. We absolutely LOVE to travel and take every opportunity to explore new places. We also love to poke fun at each other and each other's culture but it is all just jokes. We document our travels and react to our cultural differences (we do reaction videos and travel vlog content).
Fun Facts:
1. We met on a penpal site
2. We are currently long distance
3. We met in Spain in real life and roadtripped to different cities
4. We have known each other for 7+ years

I live in England ( different arrangements are made to provide for Wales and Scotland ) and became 60 years old toward the end of last year. One of the benefits of turning that age is that now I am able to receive free prescription medications. I`m currently taking about 8 different medicines which would otherwise cost me ( if I was still under the age of 60 ) about £90 a month. In October of last year ( 2023 ) I had a total hip replacement on my left side. A couple of months ago ( May 17th, `24 ) I had my right hip replaced ( I`d been suffering end stage avascular osteonecropathy ). I had the ops done at a private hospital but they were paid for by the NHS. Out of interest I went to the private hospitals website and looked up the cost of a double hip replacement. The prices start, it says, at £31, 570. My house didn`t cost as much as that ( notwithstanding I purchased it in 1995 ).

Things will never change in the US while most Gov officials are being lobbied by the big businesses all the time, with handy fundraisers & cash in the back pocket hidden wealth - another reason why politics has a lot of millionaires & billionaires inside it and are always running it . . . Same reason why food safety, and the quality of food in the US allowed is barely controlled - Big business again . . . to the FDA there, they will only ban something if millions keep dying from it annually - whereas in Europe and other countries, proof is needed that it isn't harmful to people before something will be allowed to be used . . . very opposing views indeed! Same also applies to workers rights in the US compared to so many other countries, too . . .

I know the NHS can be massively improved, and I know it's not great atm, but I wouldn't change it for the world. We have it good in the UK. The fact that we can ring an ambulance or go to the hospital or doctors without having to pay is bliss. Yes, we pay through taxes, but the main thing is it's free at the point of use. And, maybe controversial for some, but I would be absolutely happy for a slight increase in tax contributions to try and help improved the NHS.

I’m seeing a lot of comments saying that healthcare isn’t free in the UK, I just want to clarify, I live in the UK currently so I know that citizens pay for it through taxes. What I meant is that you don’t pay anything when you need to go to the hospital. In the US, we pay for insurance monthly AND would have to pay for a hospital visit (outside of an annual check up).

I think the place to start in the US is to bring the cost of treatment under control. In almost all other countries costs are controlled by the government, they can just charge anything they want. That applies to hospitals for treatment and drugs / medicines. I think if they can begin to control what they're charging that would be an amazing start. In the UK you pretty much don't pay for anything at the point of the service but in a number of countries you do pay for things like a trip to the doctor but it is often just about $20 rather than the hundreds and thousands the US charge. Just charge fair reasonable prices to start and take it from there. Same for the health insurance - that should be capped as it is in many other countries, they also can't just charge what they want - and it must cover ANY hospital, ANY doctor and ANY treatment. Do that and it would be a huge start.

I love the comparative content of US vs UK services. Back in '07 when I was in high school, I had a dystonic reaction to a medication at school and took an ambulance a total of about 5 or less miles. On that 2007 bill, the ambulance ride (before insurance) was over 1k. I don't think my parents ever disclosed the cost of the rest, but I am now an adult who is disabled by infectious diseases (Lyme disease, Babesiosis, etc) and I'd be dead if they didn't refinance the house to pay for my treatment which was not covered by insurance due to Lyme Disease being "not real" at the time. Oof! What I'd give for a little bit of care from my own government and fellow citizens. Unfortunately, since I don't look sick, people here (sadly, SC) are very harsh about how they don't want their tax dollars going to help pay anyone else's bills. They never talk about the companies price fixing drugs, though. I guess that'd be a step too far. I'm laughing so I don't cry XD

Hi Callum is right in saying neither the conservatives or Labour can sort our messes out! Whilst legal immigration continues illegal immigration is slowly strangling our country. But the public are definitely eyes wide open over this. By the next general election things will definitely change! Covid hurt almost all countries granted. Brexit was not dealt with properly at all! Which angers me soo much as a leaver. Labour now have a hell of a job to do to clean up so many years of the Tory’s! For me whilst I don’t agree with every policy of the Reform party they are definitely for me on the right track with a lot of things. The voting system desperately needs changing! So reform along with others need to hit the floor running with pushing changes. So by the next election one party winning with similar numbers than say for example Reform won’t get in! The way it is now is making it so hard for any other party other than Labour or the conservatives getting so many seats in parliament. Sorry I’m not explaining myself very well but I’m sure Callum sort of gets what I mean. Even as it stands here I still wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I have lived abroad in the past. As well as lived down south here as well as lived in many places in the UK. For me the north of the UK is best. I could write a book on my travels & where I’ve lived & worked. But ultimately in the end I’ve always returned home to Liverpool. My home city & place of my birth. I watch a lot of YT channels where Americans have packed up & moved here to the UK. Me I left the UK & moved to Oz back in the day. Sometimes ( usually) the grass isn’t always greener . Whilst I love Australia I couldn’t stay there. I also know many people & families that moved ( emigrated) to places like Australia but ended up coming home. I think just having hot weather is not enough to leave your home. There’s a few people I know who have married people from different countries & have settled here in the UK. With the Americans I know & the ones I watch online they all day best enough the same thing about why they left the US & why they wouldn’t return there unless certain things changed. Each country as we know had pros & cons. Not one of us is perfect. The one reason I would have left my country for would have been love! Politics as they say is not a subject to talk about 🤣 as people get so invested & things usually get Leary 😂 Brexit 🤦‍♀️ things can get physical 😂
