He is just not living above his means, living in a house he can't afford, drives a stable normal car, and saves money regularly. If he lives in close proximity to everything, he might even sell his car and live without to save even more aggressively for some years. Credit card debts is also a cardinal sin, if he/she is not able to erase that debt very fast. The world is becoming more expensive, we see massive inflation, and the only way to cope with this is to have backup money.It's not about never enjoying life, traveling or buying things.
