Can you explain why did you select the box dimension as 76 X 76 (or 38 on both sides of the axes) and why did you select top surface (should you not select bottom surface here? so that the box becomes 80 X 80) ? Why shouldn't we select mid surface and 78 X 78 as our dimension ?

Thanks for your video but unfortunately you did not reply to most of the questions in the comment list. It is painful because it is almost the only video of youtube doing a full analysis of a tube up to the energy absorption and because even amazing videos may need explanations. Actually my questions are already in the previous comments but did not get answer from you. I will ask again hoping that you or someone who understood well will help me. I need to understand why to compute the energy absorption in excel you did ''0.5*(C5-C3)'' from where did you get this 0.5. And if you see this message, please send me here the corresponding paper. Thanks.

hi,In my opinion,energy is calculated by intergrated the area under the curve, and when we calculate the area of triangle,we use: 0.5*bottom side length*hight of triangle. so that's why the author use 0.5( just from my perspective),wish this thought give you some idea~

can you tell me please how much time did the job took to complete ? and what's the optimal configuration of step to have the minimum time for pretty accurate results ?
@samsami3287 жыл бұрын
The time period refers to the total time needed to complete the crushing of the tube. In this simulation it was 0.06 seconds (60 milliseconds), which is reasonable because the crushing is dynamic and the crushing mass is 275 kg in our case, and hence it would not take much time. The total running time for a simulation therefore depends on the time period and the CPU you are using. As for the accuracy of the results, it does not depend on the step time, however on the way you model your test. The more you define your model by providing accurate material information and good setup presentation, the more likely to get accurate results. Of course you have to validate your simulation results by comparing them to an actual crushing test.

I think the job in the video took about 30 to 45 minutes.

Thanks for your reactivity ! It would be very nice from you to answer this question concerning my specific case : I'm actually working on the optimisation of cross-sectionnal shape of a car crash-box, and in order to have some results I need to try at least 12 different cross sections of the crash box ! For the design ! I chose CATIA V5 to make the part ! then I imported it to abaqus and i followed the instructions in this video with some changes (In property module : I created solid homogenous section instead of shell, and in Mesh Module : the element type is Tet with 5 in the size of the element), then I run the job and I'm actually estimating more than 5 hours for completion (I have a core i7-4700HQ processor) which is a pretty long time ! Can you tell me what's the best way to simulate the crash of parts imported from CATIA V5 with a minimum time for the job calculations ?!
@samsami3287 жыл бұрын
I don't see why you chose to model the crash box as a solid homogeneous section. These crash boxed are usually shell tubular structures, so just change the section to shell homogeneous. Also, what is your part file extension?. If you want you can send me your cae file and I will check it for you and tell what is wrong with it. Just write your email.
