I would love to have her help reacquainting myself with one of the great joys of our youth - Hobie sailing.
I assume it is sold?
GO FOR IT !!!!!!! That is where I learned to sail. Clipper Marine, 27ft. 4 years I LEARNED !! then sold the Clipper Marine, bought a 10.7 mtr. ( 35') sloop and lived on her for 8 years !! Sailed her from San Diego, Ca. to Ft. Myers, FL. GO FOR IT !!!!!!!
Nice sailing! Did your downhaul cleat break off right before this video?
Literally just sold.
If its available ... $$$?
My brother Tom lives up that way and sails a Hobie. I would enjoy getting out there to do some sailing on Lake Pend Oreille.
Very similar to the West Wight Potter 19.
In some ways but in other ways not. WWP19 freeboard is much taller and its simply more boxy than this boat. I tell people I feel like the WWP19 is like sailing a box. Does not sail to weather well and pretty sluggish on all points of sail. the Malbec18 has less freeboard, has lower center of effort, sails beautifully on all points of sail. She sails to weather like a race boat. I do not own what I do not love to sail. Plus I use it for my sailing classes. I absolutely love it. This boat reminds me more of a Montgomery 17 or Sage 17. Similar sailing performance. Also super easy to rig, etc. I could go on and on but do not want to bore you.
😩 P r o m o S M
Once they said OK for the tenth time, I had to abort. OK? Maybe it got better after the first minute, but I'll never know. OK? ... OK!
Ok, guess to each his own. First time I got a negative comment about this video versus just learning from what they are teaching. Its all good.
I didnt know there was a mission there. Cool.
I have passed this place for 24 years, sadly. Finally visited and well worth it. There is a Native American museum that includes the Missions history as well (native and catholic combo history). I plan to do a summer visit and do a disAbility accessible assessment of the site.
that was great i live in van bc and have dinghied hobied wind surfed out of our little home sweet home base Jericho sailing centre where people can learn about all of the above and more without bustin the bank check it out its a community resource in a beautiful spot cheers from canada
Glad you like the video. Video was done a long time ago, but learning to sail has not changed much over the years. We are located in N Idaho so not far from you.
Pretty amazing that this video was filmed in 1999-2000ish next to Cheeca Lodge Resort on the Moorings Property using the Hobie 16 by the Hobie Dealer, Caribbean Watersports. They are still in business at Playa Largo Resort in Key Largo as of 2023 and rent the Hobie Wave and Getaway.
What kind of boat is that?
Catalina 28
Hey, I'm super curious because I just bought a 2021 Malbec used... It looks to me as though you have the gooseneck inserted *above* the mast gate rather than below it... Is that what you typically do? I've never seen something rigged that way. The reason I noticed is that when I rigged mine, my gooseneck/boom sit below the gate so that I can insert the sail slugs and then use a slug stopper to prevent the sail from coming out when hauled down... I'm using a second stopper to limit how far down the gooseneck sits, but I haven't figured out what to hook the downhaul loop on the bottom of the gooseneck to. The purpose of the downhaul is to hold the boom down at the mast so that the sail pressure wont lift it (and you won't accidentally lift it with the halyard when you hoist the sail). Any thoughts? I have been unable to locate any documentation for the boat aside from the roller furling installation manual. Thanks!
Lately I'm seeing a lot of TI ama hulls that appear very badly curved along the bottom. Something is amiss....
Looking great. Nothing like a bit of frostbite sailing! Keep the videos coming!⛵⛵⛵
You guys are too cute!
Nice! Looks like the sun helped you some.
Looks like an interesting lake, judging by the topography, I would guess the winds funnel from the north.
Looking good. Keep the TI Videos coming.
Looks beautiful
I find some of the most beautiful times of the year to sail are in the winter, with all the beautiful snow
Looking great! Keep the TI videos coming. Catch a few of my videos here: www.youtube.com/@seewind
Well, boaty is tarpped. Our lake is back on the fill, so I am waiting. Great that you got on the water.
What lake is it? Curious
@@milesmoore8705 Fern ridge in Oregon for me. fun to sail has a great NW lake blog. Oh wait, you are FTS. ha ha!
@@olivei2484 Yes think I have about 200 lakes I personally visited to assess the launch and access points. You're not that far away. What do you sail and/or boat with?
@@funtosail I own a C-lark 14, race on a Santana 20 and Santana 2023. Hope to visit ID lakes either this summer or next year.
@@olivei2484 C Lark 14 is a nice day sailor and Santa 20 is awesome Not familiar with the S2023, cool how the number matches this year, 2023. I am way spoiled with all the amazing lakes to sailing in my area (Inland NW). We have more water than we know what to do with. Even in dry years does not seem to affect the lakes in Idaho at least. I sail as you can tell a Hobie TI, also Hobie Wave, and a Malbec18. Sailed a lot of different boats over the years, with the biggest being a Reynolds 33 catamaran. Learned to sail when I was 5 on an El Toro. I am all in as a small boat trailer sailor..
Looking good. Keep the TI videos coming!
Yes got more TI vids coming. In 2023 will be primarily selling the TI along with the Malbec18. Not selling cats or other sailboats. Plus will be doing more with the TI in my accessible/disAbled saing efforts. Keep an eye on our website for more info..
Thank you for all the kids learned. They spent days telling us about how to read the weather, water, wind, they shared tons of stories about safety which is really good. This was the best experience they have had sailing. These videos bring back some wonderful memories.
You are sailing along at a nice clip. The kids loves racing your friend! They are coming away from these lessons even more addicted to sailing.
Call my sell the sailing drug dealer (hope that does not sound bad). My goal is to get people addicted to sailing.
We just thought to check your KZread channel to see if you had uploaded any videos, and here they are! I have been telling people about your sailing school. The kids had a great time and learned a ton!!!! Thank you!!
Thank you. Had souch fun teaching your kids. Hope to see you all again.
May need wind to operate correctly.
Nice vid
Hi
Best how to video ever. 2 min with all the info required. Thank you and happy sailing!
She's cute! Neat! Now, near as I can tell, the Modern Sailor must be able to handle a boat AND a camera at the same time.
Not sure I am good at the camera part 😑
Beauty day!
Yes, the day, the wife, the boat :)
I just bought one for 150.
You just bought what for $150?
Good explanation. Thanks.
okayyy
No mast float?
Had a mast float. First time boat capsize where the boat went turtle even with the mast float on.
@@funtosail Wow! Hope you recovered the boat okay.
I was just thinking of asking for a cat recovery from a capsize. Now heres a vid! Yay!
Will do more videos shortly. I always seem so busy I do not get time to make them, but am working to change that.
@@funtosailHow about: sailboat recovery if mast is stuck in the mud (i.e turtle).
@@olivei2484 To get a mast unstuck from the mud you need to rock the boat to free it. Or better yet put a mast float on it to help prevent the mast from sinking directly under the boat.
@@funtosail maybe I should buy one from you, I'll visit your web page.
@@olivei2484 Good idea to buy from me ;)
I camp there
It’s like 40 to 50 ft deep
What type of tape is that? Will the heat help all sail repair tapes?
Its tape I sell online at funtosail.com in my shopping section of the site. Works really well. I use it a lot.
I had one of these and sailed mostly at the beach with it . Super fun even with my wife (two persons)it moved at a good speed with a light breeze. But the best thing is that after a day of sailing you don't have to deal with carrying heavy stuff. I used to carry mine on the roof of my car this was back in 1985. Was at Gatun lake a couple months ago and unbelievable there was a guy with my old snark unfortunately not sailing but using it as a canoe to fish . I could tell it was my old because of some stainless fittings i made for it 36 years later. Cheap but well made.
Nice looking lake!
Amazing lake at 1500 feet deep and 50 miles long. One of the few lakes with a Navy Base. One can learn more about this lake at funtosail.blogspot.com/2016/10/lake-pend-oreille-bonner-kootenai.html
@@funtosail Navy Base? Really?
@@olivei2484 Yes called the NSWCCD Acoustic Research Detachment. Here is a link to the base info bit.ly/396hdlS . During world war II the largest inland water navy base was located on this lake. The current navy base is where part of the old base was, now the rest of the base land is called Farragut State Park.
@@funtosail Awesome! BTW I really enjoy your lake blogs. The are really informative.
