Saludos desde Boston, bendiciones y abrazos! You Go Cali Girl!!! From all the reviews I've seen and read on YT, your's is the most honest and concise abt what it takes to move and live in Puerto Rico! Let me tell you I lived in California during my Navy commitment and I always believed El Monte/West Covina was God's country!!! Indeed PR is motherland...unfortunately, there are bad apples that rot our society and the lack of a true attention to detail and laziness in the Puertorican mentality drags the quality of life even further! That's something that every Puertorican that has lived away from PR could attest as a fact! As the refran says: Despierta Boricua, y ponte a trabajar! 💪🤑💕🇵🇷

Lovely to meet you, Mariah 😊 I recently moved to PR and I’m struggling despite being a native Spanish speaker (I guess the Taurus in me misses gourmet food / wines a bit more than I expected). Nonetheless, I have a positive attitude and I do love the people. Would you be so kind as to recommend a reliable lawyer who can help with Act 60 stuff? Cheers, L.

Well I'm Puerto Rican raised in the USA but I now live on the island. So yes San Juan is expensive but rent outside of San Juan is Not. Even home prices are not bad outside of the capital of San Juan. I have a house Beach view maybe a 5 minute walk to the beach. It's like being on vacation every day. I love it here

Not Because my Parents are Puerto Rican and I lived in Puerto Rico when a young child but I Love the Place and we are Beutiful hearted human beings who are all about spending time with loved ones, friends, enjoying life to the fullest. The neighbors to this day help and look out for one another at no cost. I Love Puerto Rico and my Boricuas.

I have not been to Puerto Rico in 12 years, even though I was born and raised there, back in the late 90ies I had a house built moved back, but that lasted 3 years, I moved to Florida in 2001 and I have been here ever since, I might move back when I retire in 4.5 years but don’t know, I hated working there, but if I am retired might be different, that is why I am watching your video to make a well informed decision. Great video.

I love your videos and your strong defense to the Island, our way of live, and all the Island has to offer. Its craizy when people come to a tropical place and they don't want to deal with the environment, or the people. Every place have their good, bad, and ugly, but if you are visiting or just moving in take the time learn about it and not just expected everything will be the same. This lady give me headache.

I am from and have lived in PR most of my life and the attitudes you describe apply also to locals, many people here complain constantly, live afraid, do not go out much, and then others like myself do realize we live in a fun, beautiful, and safe place. I try to surround myself with people who have the same attitude, usually, the people who think that way have done some traveling and can compare. Regarding the food, that you avoided, or tried to, I love the food, it takes time to find everything rare, cheap, international, etc.. but I do understand we lack diversity when compared to big cities, we only have like 3 Indians, and this, no Filipino or Georgian, Mexican, arab and greek are more expensive and formal than in the states, etc..

I moved here in January 2024. Most of this video is really spot on. PR teaches you the art of patience as things move slower here and some items are hard to get. I travel to the states every 2-3 weeks so that helps for hard to find items that you can put in a carry on or luggage. I fly SJU-ATL on Frontier and it's very cheap -- nonstop RT for about $150av when you buy it right. When you hit 10k miles you get all the perks of delta (free carryon, free seat selection, $19 exit row upgrade). Mariah did not mention the hardcore summers which are extremely hot/humid (90*, 79* dewpoints coastal) with heat warnings most every day and takes 2-3yrs to acclimate. Mountain towns such as Aibonito are cooler but also cloudy, rainy and far away from city life. Storm season/power outages are a big deal here: most expats will stay for the great weather November-May, then schedule their travel for June-October. Housing outside San Juan is very affordable: I have a studio apt one block from the water for $450/mo. You are highly unlikely to be a victim of violent crime here unless you go looking for trouble (La Perla, getting involved in drunken bar fights between natives/disrespecting them). Every expat I know feels safer here than mainland US. Get a cheap car because drivers are notoriously bad and you will get all kinds of dents and sideswipes. Even the simplest of tasks often require contacting 10 different businesses, only one or at best two of which reply/can assist. So the key to a good experience is finding the right person to call and networking is hugely helpful. Costco/CUT for meats; Rideout for bicycles, etc. You need both expats and locals for networking. Once you accept that you are living in a second world country, then it is a true joy to be here most of the time. Making an effort to speak Spanish/using google translate goes a long way! Remember: when you dream of living on island time, don't complain when things move slow :-)
