    Nice Triumph, Neil. My last classic I had in the UK was a 1973 Triumph 2000 in French Blue. I was given a set of the Stag style alloys that I had refurbished and I fitted those on it. I haven’t lived in the UK for 17 years now and the last time I visited was 2017 so I’m a bit out of touch but what/where is ‘New’ Brighton? That’s the second time I’ve heard it mentioned now. Just Brighton and then Brighton and Hove as I recall.

    @@MapleMarmite many thanks, they are a great car, always wanted one in French Blue, New Brighton is on the Wirral Peninsula, Merseyside, just over the River Mersey from Liverpool

    Ah - thanks for the information. I guess I had never heard of New Brighton before and, having lived near the ‘old’ Brighton, I thought it might have been a recent expansion there. I liked the French Blue on my 2000 but you had to keep it polished regularly or it would start to dull on you. There is an annual car show, ‘The British Motoring Festival’ on here in Nova Scotia in a couple of weeks that is celebrating Triumph this year so I am hoping that someone will bring along a 2000/2500 saloon or estate. I also liked the smaller Triumph 1300 saloon - I felt they were a smaller version of the mk1 2000 body style. There was one for sale at a good price last year but the other side of the country, unfortunately. All the best.

    @@MapleMarmite nice to hear the old Triumph's are appreciated over in Nova Scotia, my grandfather was Triumph mad and went to see family and British car shows in New Zealand, our New Brighton was a Victorian seaside resort founded after the success of Brighton on the south coast

    @@NeilIrving1973 The climate in New Zealand would have been much kinder to the Triumphs (and any old cars) than here on the East Coast of Canada. The salt that goes on the roads just ate them up. Most of the old car survivors are on the West Coast where the climate is better and/or they don’t use road salt in winter. We have a lot of British place names here, too, many preceded by ‘New’. New Glasgow is nearby and Yarmouth and Liverpool are a few hours away from me. The river in Liverpool has even been named The Mersey.

    @@MapleMarmite I bet the salt is a real problem for most cars over there, I follow a few channels in Canada and it looks like a lot of work needs to be done to protect the old and newer cars, I hope there is a New Brighton over the Nova Scotia River Mersey

  • @NeilIrving1973
    @NeilIrving19735 ай бұрын

    My dad took the fuel injection system off for fuel economy and road side reliability, he did a lot of car shows and club runs, to be honest not much loss in performance, still got the pi cam shaft which adds a bit of timing, as to the originality, auto box replaces the 4 speed non overdrive, lowered and uprated springs and shocks with polly bushes through out modified rack mounts and half shafts , ss exhaust, Ford seats and different wheel and tyre combo, for me it's the sound, feel and smell of any old car

  • @andyrogers4866
    @andyrogers48665 ай бұрын

    @@NeilIrving1973 Hi Neil. You mentioned the sound, Oh you yes, I loved the sound, and the minilites wheels look brilliant too. I was interested in your seats they are a pretty good match - Which Ford do they come from? Your list of upgrades looks impressive and could be handy for me. ..... I drove a PI for several years when I was young, and just loved it. Here in NZ we only had PI's as either Auto or Man O/D (never the just 4 spd). I was a mechanic back in the day (semi retired dairyfarmer now) and I specialized in tuning the Pi Triumphs and man could we make them go. Now as I'm 66 years old and looking to get into a classic for some fun, a Triumph (preferably PI) or a Rover 3.5S is still remarkably affordable compared to most classics. So a 'PI' is high on the list, but hard to find here in NZ as most have been changed to T/C versions.. So I'm thinking of finding a 2.5S and fitting a retro (looking) EFI system and spec-ing up the car to lift performance and appeal. I understand retro EFI kits are available from the UK. ......... good to chat... Andy

    @@andyrogers4866 hi Andy, the seats are out of a Ford Sierra 2000e, not sure if you had them in NZ, most of the EFI systems I have seen are homemade, a friend of mine used mostly Opel Senetor parts, injector port have to be machined, he's made a tool for it, I have an instruction manual somewhere, if I find it I will share a link, small world story, we have family in NZ, North and South island, my grandfather used to visit often, and got friendly with someone from the NZ triumph saloon register club, a Paul Deniston, he went to a few shows with him, lol stopped him feeling homesick and missing is own big 6 😊
