They do a s hi t job from the factory sealing the inner apron arches, the water get in through the outer lip, sits on the sill there, and eats hole right through everything inside there. I have a 1983 ur quattro, it's spent it's entire life here in California, and it has rust in the rear truck boot lid at the very bottom lip, and I just cut out about 8" of the top inner apron arch, and repaired it on the passenger side. Fortunately that appears to be the only rust, ah the front bonnet leading lip has some rust developing on the leading edge where the seam sealer is there small amount no perforation at least....

That rust on the top of the inner wing is normal. They'll all be like that now unless already addressed. That whole top section of the inner wing which is brown on your car is left as bare untreated steel from the factory. The only thing that stops it rusting immediately is the sticky black butyl tape they stick the wing down with, then it was primed and painted after the wings were fitted. A repair here is better than factory, as you can paint the inner wing top before you fit the outer wing. Check the front and bottom of the A pillars and the bottom corners of the windscreen once the glass is out.

Excellent progress guys. Check the sills for rot and the a pillars around the door hinges and lower section as the earlier quattros suffered really bad with rot. I also had a 1984 ur quattro but unfortunately it was too far gone body wise to save so I ended up breaking it down for parts. Touch wood I don’t think my 1986 quattro is that bad, I really need to get it up on a ramp so I can have a closer look at what’s going on underneath but eventually I will be going down the same route that you’re doing and do it properly. Look forward to your progress

I had all this rust to deal with on my first Ur resto. Inside the bottom of the A pillars will be the worst to deal with. Now, be very careful with that metering head. Make sure nothing gets inside any of those ports you removed and keep it upright! I prefer to leave all the pipes on and remove the whole unit with the pipes undone at the feed, return and wur plus injectors. Good luck. You are going to need some together with deep pockets! Just started my second Ur this month.
