Can't believe the state of the track then,looking back,dirt just tipped straight out of the tipper and left there.All gone now and only high end housing left,actually looks nice place to live now😃

These guys could ride! Look at these bikes squirming so much...what a handful! 100% credit to the riders. Now, todays racing...as a biker, watching the Isle of Man TT leaves me in awe every time I watch those guys! Nuts!

Being a long time Katana owner ,I found it amazing that such an outdated bike managed third. My heart swelled with pride and I realised Heyes and Holden were both superstars. VF 750's were the next level then.

Mal Pitman tracked that bike down and is restoring it. May have been finished by now. It was mostly still complete and had sat around a lot in a shed, even had Dellorto carbs like car Webers. Not in the 800 though.

I remember watching as a teenager thinking don't undertake down this righthander Graeme Crosby the 16-inch front wheel will let you down and it did.

A disqualification yet the banned rider carries on racing, crashes, riders laying injured on the grass infield, mechanical failures, riders pushing bikes around the track while the race goes on around them, bike with exhaust hanging off, Crosby sprinting round the track to get his teams crashed bike back so he can continue to race, wheel changes on regular road bikes in under 2 minutes, even an all women team there were more incidents in this one race than season of moto gp. ah the good old days

Killed by nostalgia. I spent countless weekends at Oran Park as a teenager. Never heard anything as terrifying as the sound of these bikes at the end of the straight. Think I was 12 years old the first time.

I remember the 750 two strokes here. Hansford got killed in a car. Mum's friend told her her son's were OK when they rode bikes but didn't have cars. Video clarity is absolute garbage.

I was hiring GS 1000 Suzukis from Action Suzuki North Sydney in the 1979 period . Greg McShane took the saddle one day with me on the back . From the Crossroads just outta Sydney , to Western Creek Canberra , we arrived , a fair bit under two hours .

Michael Doohan once said that if you could ride fast at Lakeside, you could ride fast anywhere. Doohan rode fast at Lakeside and went on to win 5 World Championships. The math speaks for itself.

Fun fact: As of 2023, Yamaha Pitmans Motorcycles in Adelaide is still in business. It has also branched out into Yamaha Pitmans Marine where they obviously sell and service boats.

My own bike is a 1985 Yamaha XJ900f. Bloody beautiful thing to ride and for a 38 year old road bike it does have some grunt.

Great racing , everyone wondering why it just died in the arse .. soon as they capped it with a 1000cc limit probably started the decline.

When manufacturers started making bikes just to win the race, along with some 'creative' interpretations of the rules as to what constitutes "production".

@@robertgreen8213 Yea mate I hear you , but they could do that with 1000cc bikes as easily as 1100cc bikes , think we were watching Doohan become a future person of interest during this race. As team Marlboro Yamaha were used to just steaming past everyone before this .. Warren Willing’s eyes & ears would have pricked up.

Hasland and Neil have the same engine except his is 1150 cc and Neil’s is 1000 cc commentators have no idea.

Cracking race, hats off to all three for various reasons. Always been a Crosby fan I must admit. Miss the Swann series with the internationals and mix of bikes, but I guess times have changed.
