You can attach a clear piece of tubing to the bottom of a funnel and sneak it past the intake boot/air filter housing, if you can get your hand down there to unscrew the fill cap I'm sure service data tells you to take out the intake tubing anyway Btw when a service writer comes and says "is it done yet" tell them they're free to help.. if customers choose to wait, they can wait until you're done. This ain't a Mcdonald's drive-thru and the average car owner doesn't know that these services take time to do it right, but a comeback takes a whole lot more time

@@KENDRO1K Independent shops: Usually hourly pay instead of flat rate, a little slower paced, you'll work on vehicles of every make and model which in the end will make you a better well rounded tech but can be more challenging too. Lack of service data or outdated data can be a problem because the shop owners don't want to pay for it. Typically less stressful Dealerships: Pretty much the opposite. Can be hectic with 120+ vehicles per day. Flat rate pay so no guarantees on hours and your paychecks can and will vary month by month especially during season changes(winter is always slower in automotive). Potential for more training, especially factory(this varies from shop to shop). Working on one brand allows you to get used to common problems with different models but that can become boring over time, some like it, some don't. Former tech of 23 years so part of me wants to tell you to run for the hills but I understand you're trying to find a path for yourself as a young man and that learning how to be a mechanic is an invaluable skill-set that you can take to almost any job field. Critical thinking, problem solving, communication, teamwork.. mechanics are some of the smartest people in normal society, high level ones are basically engineer intelligence, modern vehicles are very complex. Do yourself a favor and stay off the tool trucks, if you must have something make sure it's something you can pay off within *4weeks*. Stay out of debt. Take yourself down to Harbor Freight, ICON & Quinn lines are solid, my boxes are filled with their stuff, I promise you don't need Snap-On to get the job done. Wait on it. In the heavy world, there is no such thing as flat rate. The downside is trouble shooting and diagnostics. electrical diagnostics tends to be harder because they don't have traditional electrical systems like cars have had. Alot of stuff is 24 to 48 volt instead of 12 volt. Once you get the hang of it though, it's not bad. there are more systems to trouble shoot and lots of different fuel types and hydraulics systems as well.
