Thanks for uploading this! I was here last summer after a walk through Whitstable. I found a small footpath through the shrubs and ended up in the middle of this graveyard. Those children's graves are very famous. The churchyard is described by Charles Dickens. It is where the escaped convict Magwitch catches young Pip at the start of Great Expectations and threatens him into bringing him a pork pie, brandy and a file. The graves are described in some detail.

Think I mentioned in one of your previous videos that the steps used to lead to the Rood loft. Maybe KZread deleted the comment as they thought it was Rood? 🙂 Pretty sure we looked for this church and couldn't work out where it was. We go up to Seasalter regularly. I've worked on several of the Churches Conservation Trusts churches in the past, but in the West Country where I used to live 🙂🙂

Excellent tour 🙂 The truncated arches you saw would have been reduced when the tower was added. Before that they would have carried on to form a vaulted roof. You can see the hatch in the timber floor through which the bells would have been hauled up. The room above the porch is called a Parvis, usually used as a school room or for meetings, highly unlikely to be a priest hole as they probably would have found the priest very quickly if he'd hidden there. I've not seen timber steps up to one before, very interesting. I must pop up there and have a look soon, we live very close. Ta for the video 🙂

My surname apparently comes from the area. Descended from Sir Simon Bigod knight of the garter and standard bearer to one of the kings himself. Of course who knows what hasnt been altered over the years but that has been the story in my family passed down for generations. Bigod took the name felbrigg, 3 or 4 generations later my surname Philbrick came to be.
