    Big advice you will regret not following, play slower songs / dont rush (you will not get good when you only play fast, you get good when starting slow, like i have seen with your tapping sweeping progress), analyze what kind of chord progression, dont just play random arpeggios just to show of / when you dont know what to play , get more relaxed in both of your arms (use your wrist to pick instead), dont learn from TABS (tabs is the noob way of learning, it teaches you nothing about what kind of notes and key signature you are playing), and i believe that bernth does not have great exercises for guitar, and last pro tip learn techniques that you will actually use and not these shit techniques that bernth gives out as an "great exercises".

    I’m not sure what techniques you’re suggesting given that all the ones I work on are those I regularly need to use. As far as this solo goes, I wasn’t just winging it with random notes, I took my time to work out each section and wasn’t just playing stuff to ‘show off’ as you put it. I’m not saying it’s the best solo in the world and there are definitely issues with timing which I’m actively trying to work on, but I was taking the progression into account as much as possible. I don’t pick with my arm either. I use my wrist and adjust my arm height as I move through the strings to keep my hand level with them.

    Hey man! I really admire your progress. I was wondering if you would ever make any tutorials on what your guitar journey looked like as well as what type of exercises you do to practice? I want to get into playing but I dont jnow how to make a solid routine for improvement, maybe you could lend some help?

  • @RedBreadRedemption

    Hey mate. I’ve not really thought about making any videos on this, I’m not amazing at teaching guitar and even worse at trying to demonstrate things on camera. As far as advice and stuff goes, the main thing I can recommend is to just be consistent with how you practice and practice regularly. I’ve used a lot of different exercises over the time I’ve played and tend to rotate these around a bit to prevent them getting too stale. It kinda depends on where you are with your progress and what things you want to focus on improving. For technical stuff I normally have a selection of different licks and pieces for each different technique that I’ll practice for about 5-10 minutes each before moving on to the next one. If you want exercises to practice then check out Ben Eller, Justin Hombach, or Bernth as they have a tonne of those. You could also join Bradley Hall’s Patreon to get access to his Discord server which I’m also in, there’s a really nice community of us there who will gladly help you work out what you want to do and try to narrow it down to a more concrete regime. Hope that helps?

    Word of advice - consider removing the band from the neck. Yes, it dulls the string noise, but also teaches very bad habits - mainly not muting the strings properly on your own (with combination of both hands). I would only use it once you master your technique, and from the slips (ocassional string noise, missed bends, wrong timing) I'd assume you are still more in a learning phase. You did a good job though, keep at it sir!

  • @RedBreadRedemption

    I basically never use it for actually practicing, but it’s a useful tool for recording with to avoid having to do too many takes. I do realise there are some mistakes in this one though, I couldn’t get one take where I didn’t mess something up and this ended up being the best one.

    A lot of people seem to be turned off by this particular number of passages and I can see why: Guthrie is a really, REALLY good example of preferred taste. One of his fav guitarists was Allan Holdsworth god damn it. The only advice I could give to the listeners is not to take Guthrie's music not really as a fixed composition but rather as a journey. This man is an explorer on the instrument than anything else. He is an advocate for validity of all the notes after all even if it means chromatics. Still, it's just my opinion

    How long did u play everyday and what did u do to improve your guitar skills on each of those days

  • @RedBreadRedemption
    @RedBreadRedemption4 ай бұрын

    It kinda varies, but on an average weekday I'll play about 2 hours a day, though during lockdown I was playing a lot more. On weekends I'll play around 4-6 hours a day depending on what else I've got going on. In terms of doing stuff to improve, usually it's just a case of having a good range of exercises for the different techniques I want to work on, but now I tend to focus a lot on learning stuff which incorporates those different things. The main thing I tend to do though is just pick something hard and drill it until I have it up to speed and clean, then pick something else and repeat.

    That's nothing but chromatic, guitar gymnastics! Melody and harmony aren't present. My brain doesn't process chromatic riffs where Melody and harmony isn't present. I wonder what Bach would think about this when he was writing his chorale ?

    Damn bro, this is some good guitar work! I’m looking to pick up my guitar again, and was just wondering what your typical practice routine would look like?

  • @RedBreadRedemption
    @RedBreadRedemption6 ай бұрын

    Thanks dude. My routine’s changed a bit over the past few years, but it’s been fairly consistent for a while now. I normally start with some warm-up exercises from the Rock Discipline book to get my hands fully stretched out and ready. Then the first thing I always practice is alt picking for about 30 minutes with a focus on different types of pick slanting exercises. I used to have other exercises for working on specific techniques but now I tend to find solos or songs that use those techniques heavily and drill those. For example, at the moment I’m working on Anticosmic Overload by Obscura which is a a great way to practice string skipping and alt picking as well as sweep tapping in the solo. Essentially my approach has always been to pick songs that are too hard and drill them until they’re not anymore and it usually means I’m a better player by the end of it.
