    It’s tradition, culture and pride. I’m against kids getting tattoos just because they tend to get in my opinion stupid tattoos but if we are talking about culture I’m 100% all for it.

    Face tattoos don't look good to me either. 14 is too young for a tattoo in my opinion because the person may change their mind, but it's not my face. The moko has traditional and cultural significance so I respect peoples decision to have them.

    I stumbled on this by accident, but I cannot believe the arrogance and ignorance of this man! I'm only an old Australian bag: I know nothing. However I do know (and hugely admire) the significance of the moko kauae. If I were Maori, I would certainly take one if I felt I were worthy. This young lady has humbly chosen to wear the reality of her culture and she should be PROUD. The stupid pakeha principal should do a bit of study before opening his mouth just wide enough to put his foot in it.

    I know I’m gonna piss a few people off for saying this so here it goes I remember a long time ago ta moko’s were only for high ranking chiefs, warriors and kuia that were earned over time. And there one more thing when were women aloud to have ta moko on there arms and legs correct if I’m wrong we’ll thought that was tapu!

  • @mrtnite9780
    @mrtnite97802 жыл бұрын

    Actually that's not true. Ta Moko was for everyone except a slave. If you were a fisherman, you had that tattooed on you, if you were musically gifted, that was tattooed on you...Your ta moko told your heritage, your rank, your occupation, and whatever else was deemed important. This belief that only high ranking chiefs had ta moko, was propaganda fed down thru European assumptions.

  • @mrtnite9780
    @mrtnite97802 жыл бұрын

    As for the arms - that's a modern thing. We never tattooed that part of the body until the 20th century - when ta moko was revived. The legs? Woman have had symbols tattooed down there since the very beginning - most of which symbolized their role/future role as a mother and child bearer.

    Well that Haole can feel whatever he wants, it's not his place to say what's goes on. It's not his child, not his culture or his land. So giving him a voice about another person's cultural practice is just more babble and steam. If find it funny how these are the same people who down indigenous cultures then turn around to appropriate them, and the people's lands.

    How dare he say he knows more about their culture than they do??? Really?!? It is their right. If Jewish children can ascend to adulthood and fully embrace their religion and heritage at the age of thirteen why can't this child of fourteen do the same. Oh that's right it doesn't meet his European standards of beauty. Well chum your not in Europe so get over it.

    sharistjohn I think he's justified in saying he knows more about Maori culture than some Maori. For instance, when do you ever hear Maori talk about their cannibalism, human sacrifice or ritual torture? They never acknowledge it so it seems unlikely that any Maori are really taught about it. Also, New Zealand is Europe. It has a European majority that built a modern, stable, prosperous European nation thanks to their European work ethic, forward thinking, and organizational ability. To downplay that NZ is a first world nation because of Europeans is to show your racism against Europeans.

    lem farba yet you gonna look away from how we got screwed over by the treaty of waitangi, stole our land, and help during the World War just to get mistreated for our differences, we then refuse to fight just to be shot down. Forced to speak English and leave our roots and culture, to then rebuild what we have lost for you to say “ europeans no more about my culture” then me and my people. Start talking your shit when you actually learn about our language and beliefs not just a fucking KZread video depicting all the “ scary” stuff our ancestors did. Like Aztecs, Egyptians and even Europeans didn’t do fucked up shit like enslave, steal and murder.

    @@lemfarba4827 Europeans never speak of the atrocities they commited! What about the fact that in many townships Maori weren’t give medical care? If Maori wanted a size 9 shoe, they had no choice and had to take the size 12 same with all clothes! Maori weren’t even allowed in some townships and had to live in forests and build there own houses! And this was all post treaty. Were do you think the terms snot nose Maori kids came from? Hori? The stereotypes that Maori couldn’t afford proper clothes and wear clothes that don’t fit them. Yeah that’s right just like poverty you gave it to us.
