Bro, you've gone from the Civivi Foldis detent knife (£80) to the even more expensive James BLAND slipjoint (£93) , when you can get the far superior and safer Spyderco UKPK, Urban, or Squeak for the same money. If you really want to splash out on an exceptional knife the Spyderco Lil"Native is great. A review is one thing, but your choice of personal carry knives sucks. Even the tiny Twisted Assited Tulip (£60) is far safer in the hand as it can't close on you. I have all five of those knives but my most regular EDC is the £35 Black Fox Bean Gen 2, which despite being a detent knife still can't close on you if you know how to use it. It's small, simple, strong, safe, discreet, and £35! Not super slicey, but stout and reliable.

The confusion with UK knife laws is that knives aren't illegal like most people think... what makes a knife illegal is it's intended use, which is why it's legal to carry kitchen knives home from a store. It's all about common sense in how it's stored and used. For example... if you have a 6" knife in your pocket when walking around for self defence then it's illegal because the intended use for that knife is a weapon but if you carry an 8" bushcraft knife in a backpack to use in a campsite then that's perfectly legal because a knife is simply a tool nothing more. The law is you cannot carry more than a 3" blade on your person when in a public area unless you have a good enough reason for doing so, which basically means you can carry a knife over 3" if you have a good reason to. so it's just common sense
@TedHowells15 күн бұрын

I guess it depends on the angle you're working with. A very long time ago, like 25 years, I was trying to remove the rubber coating on a panel that was underneath a counter, because behind it was wiring that I needed to get access too. I was using a folding knife that was my EDC at the time. I caught it at the wrong angle and it folded into my thumb slicing straight into the top of my thumb and about 1/3 of the way through my thumbnail. It was a shock, but it didn't hurt that much, I just wrapped it in toilet roll and carried on but after that I switched to a locking knife for my EDC, until they were banned. I carry a locking Stanley knife on me now because it's more useful for what I do and the cops won't give me too much trouble about it if they stopped me. We just got a new Labour government though and I've heard that they're coming after anything sharp, so my EDC is probably going to be relegated to a spoon in the near future!
@TedHowells15 күн бұрын
This saved me trying to explain it haha but yes it is more when you are doing things at an angle to is slightly off and one little slip will make it bite lol! Yeah I'm not happy about the new government. Doesn't matter what they pass though, wont stop the idiots taking their parents kitchen knives to hurt each other
@vihaanreyansh624415 күн бұрын
@@TedHowells What the UK governments never seem to appreciate is that every time they ban something they create a brand new criminal enterprise, it only serves to impair law abiding people and actually funds crime. If this new government goes ahead and makes fixed blade knives, swords and machetes completely illegal to buy or sell there 's nothing stopping anyone from popping to Homebase, picking up a strip of high carbon steel, cutting it into 5 pieces, shaping, sharpening and heat treating them, popping some rubber tape on them for a handle, you now have 5 knives you can sell to criminals that are more or less untraceable because literally anyone with a hacksaw. a grinder, half a clue and some propane can make them, someone with more tools than that can make them to a really high standard. The notion that the law can be used to impede criminals; a branch of society who make a life and career out of breaking the law is beyond stupid! But, we know they will do it anyway, because that's what they've always done 🤷♂.

I disagree with you about slip joints. I actually find slip joints to be more dangerous. The reason being, when they do move, they move on their own - they fire out suddenly with a spring force, as if with a mind of their own. I've had accidents due to this. I find double-detents and friction-folders much safer because they move only under my own control. I've been going through a similar journey, obsessed with trying to find the perfect UK-legal EDC. For me, it needs to have either a thumb hole or flipper tab for proper one-handed opening - nail nicks and thumb studs are both awful. Double detent is preferred. MUST have some way to let me resist closure of the blade: 1. a front finger choil (with smoothed, not sharp corner), 2. a flipper tab, that acts as a finger guard, or 3. an extended tang that I can hold with my thumb/palm. I prefer the front finger choil out of these three options, as that also lets me close the knife easily, by pressing on the back of the blade with my thumb while holding it on the other side with my index finger.
@Ramesiel21 күн бұрын
I also find half-stops like shown here with the James Brand knife to be a bit useless... At that position, they could already cause injury. If it's a slip joint knife, then I much prefer it to have a quarter-stop instead.

Anyway, great video and nice to see an update of your load out. I’d love this James Brand knife if the pocket clip was reversible and they did the Coyote with a straight blade. I like the idea of having some large scissors too. Again, I have a SAK Super Tinker but alas, no pocket clip! Keep the great content coming!
If you’re after something like the Ellis check out Whitby knives. Same design, not overpriced and, iirc, a few years older than TJB “design”.
@@nathski22 thanks mate! I do actually have a small Whitby slip joint I was carrying for a while but no clip so it did my head in in my pocket much like a SAK. Do Whitby have a pocket clip model that’s uk legal and similar to this?
That's a solid carry! I've been looking into Acebeam flashlights recently so I'll have to try one out soon. With the TJB ellis, I actually think that it works better as a left hand carry if that's what you wanted from the reversible clip. The way it is on the knife and how it comes out of the pocket for 2 hand opening I genuinely find better in the left pocket. Glad you like the video!
@@TedHowells yeah since getting the Acebeam my flashlight rotation has been non-existent. For the price of an i3T EOS and a slightly larger size you get SO much more out of it! I’ts been a permanent carry for almost two years for me. That’s good to know re the knife as I do left-pocket carry. Thanks for the pointer! Looking forward to the next videos.

I just happened upon your channel just now this morning, decent EDC video and advice. Subscribed 👍🏻
Appreciate you mate! Hope you enjoy the rest of my content 🙌🏼
Swap out the gerber dime for a nextool mini flagship it’s a level above
Looks sick! I just ordered one to try it out 🫡
May I ask how you are using your knives that they close on you? I am used to Victorinox and have yet to get hurt by my knife closing on my fingers.
I’ve always wondered this. People always argue about the “safety” but then never demonstrate how a non-locking knife can fold back. I’ve actually tried to fold my Victorinox knives back on myself and I can’t see how it’d happen.
This saved me trying to explain it haha but yes it is more when you are doing things at an angle to is slightly off and one little slip will make it bite lol! Yeah I'm not happy about the new government. Doesn't matter what they pass though, wont stop the idiots taking their parents kitchen knives to hurt each other
@@TedHowells What the UK governments never seem to appreciate is that every time they ban something they create a brand new criminal enterprise, it only serves to impair law abiding people and actually funds crime.
In my military sling pack there is a.. Lansky Madrock "£25" for the meanest looking UK legal workhorse of a knife" Lansky Tactical sharpening rod £17 Puma Tec multi tool £23 A generic mini med kit. A pack away waterproof cycling jacket. Mini wiipes And a Hyasia tungsten Tactical Pen LED light in my pocket £15. All are tried and tested. And none of them will break your bank. Stay safe brothers and sisters.
But It's ugly as sin and the curved blade is shit for a lot of cutting tasks needed.
What SHT knifes.
what sht spelling
@@TedHowells 😆😁
I also find half-stops like shown here with the James Brand knife to be a bit useless... At that position, they could already cause injury. If it's a slip joint knife, then I much prefer it to have a quarter-stop instead.
Jack Wolf pioneer. Yep love the bastion pens unfortunately some cockwomble decided to releave me of mine this week Another on route 🙄😊 and a very good friend gifted me the carbon fibre one too 👍❤️
I want to get my hands on a Jack Wolf knife! Ooooo that sounds like a nice one! What a goof friend!
Decided not to pull the trigger on the runt. I have the protech SBR.
Nice! I've been using it a lot more this summer as it works so well for a small carry in shorts when it's hot out! I do still stand by my word in this video though
What's your current UK legal EDC? I think this is a pretty good one. It's a mission to have a good one but it CAN be done!
my left ear loved this video
Fabulous
Hi, there! Your affiliate link to polarpro is broken and/or not secure. Just fyi. Thanks!
Knife laws don't exist because criminals they exist because of nonsensical lawmakers crime happens everywhere your politicians response to it determines your freedom you're blaming the wrong people
You're right. The UK government sucks
That's a flipper, which is a potential flick knife (illegal to even possess on cucked state of UK).
I live in New York City. The smaller knife being legal to carry is a big deal. I love how you have many different blade steel options. Plus there are tons of options in handle scales. Plus the knife is very affordable. The Spyderco Para 3 is an excellent EDC choice. Thank you for the video
It's a fantastic little knife! I unfortunately lost mine a month or so ago and I'm bummed about it!! I will be getting another one asap though!
One hand opening knives are legal. The V3 is legal. The civivi from your other videos is legal to carry in the UK. People need to stop misinterpreting the law.
Too many grey areas in our laws.
Wow, I'm sorry you guys have terrible knife laws😢 Glad I live in the US. I carry multiple locking and fixed blades with me at all times.
Mate it's the worst! We have no freedom in the uk. I would do anything to live permanently in the US!
U have guns tho thats a lot scarier tbh 😂
Bro i just bought the a7 mark 3.. probably will be returning it now and saving a little longer for the a7s 3
Good choice sir!
And here I am fixing a bayonet on my AR15. Your knife is cute though.
🙄 I want an AR
