    IMPORTANT: Apparently the amount of permits to get to Mendenhall glacier are now limited so popular shuttles like the Blue Bus are basically impossible to get unless you're very early in the season. I had read older info on Trip Advisor and Cruise Critic that getting to Mendenhall was easy and you could just find a tour on the docks. I foolishly decided to just wing it and look for a shuttle when we got there and there were NONE available and only full on tours that had limited time at the glacier were available. I tried to get an Uber but for whatever reason I couldn't get a good signal and never was able to hail one. In desperation I had to hail a Taxi and with tip that cost me 143 bucks. Ouch. My suggestion, try and reserve a shuttle it's about 45 a person, a tour of the town with stop at glacier is about 85 per person. Public bus is vastly cheaper but it will take a good chunk of time (Our port call wasn't very long so we wanted the most time possible at the glacier). Otherwise a taxi is about 120 (I gave 25 tip as the guy was really good and came back right on time to pick us up as there is no cell service cabs will come back for you at a specified time). If you can buddy up with a few other passengers it can be pretty reasonable.

    Thanks for this information. My cruise is not until Sept 2025, but I am beginning to determine that weather reports are only good for about 6 hrs. 🙂

    Are there lounge chairs available for grabs if they're sold out? If so, how do you know which ones are rented and which one are for public use?

  • @PortMonkeys
    @PortMonkeys6 күн бұрын

    The lounge chairs are free to use. They are first come, first served. Like on the ship, people reserve them by putting their stuff on them. Thank you for your comments and thank you for subscribing to our channel.

    You mentioned the cannabis store. Note: I'm seeing on other video's that cruise ships strictly prohibit bringing any cannabis on board.

  • @PortMonkeys
    @PortMonkeys6 күн бұрын

    That is true. We point out many of the stores we pass by in port. Of course, the ship has little control of what you do while in port. Thank you for your comments and thank you for subscribing to our channel.
