  Listening to him read his book "Born Standing Up" is a wonderful experience if you're a fan -- it sheds light on how he came to be who he was and do what he did. Personally, I think he elevated stand-up comedy to an artform -- I'm not surprised that sometimes when he sees the old stuff he doesn't even understand what he was doing.

  People have forgotten that he wasn't a comedian. He was a ROCK STAR COMEDIAN. He was probably the first comedian to do stadiums. He was that big in the seventies! He was doing sold out shows every night for years! Not to mention that his act consisted of the original idea that trying not to be funny was hilarious. A genius and an innovator! You have to see the STEVE documentary!
