    I live in Pittsburgh - lots of great examples of ornate decorative brickwork around - ornate, but never fussy or ostentatious. Brick is beautiful!

    Does he make money from trilith? Yes he does. The propaganda makes sense now. 'Quiet frankly its how we used to live'. No we never. It is an experiment. Thos giu is full of lies amd propaganda. Gotta get the tax dolkars to fufill yoir fantasy. If the place exists as he says so amd does as he says so, why do you keep saying 'we believe'? You wouldnt need to believe if it was true. Getting to the heart of it pretty quick......its all ifs, buts and maybes, if we can do this, if they do this, we believe.... Is he saying that if you arent an artist of any kind you are not welcome? This is doomed to fail. These things always do

    @BuildingCulture the thinking behind it is on the same level as the MAGA campaign, full of buzz words with loads of ifs buts and maybes but instead of immigrants ruining everything it's cars. 4 minutes in and he has said absolutely nothing other than propaganda and buzz words

    Austin, so glad hearing idealistic discussions of what can and should be done to make our world a more prosperous, healthy, and good life for humanity. I have always appreciated your process of values clarification since I met you at BSC. Great discussion. I wonder if in order to bring "common sense" change that will bring prosperity and relational community to the world, we would have to clearly define the problem. It is hard to bring change and transformation if we do not see clearly the underlying problems and obstacles. It seems that it is statistically impossible for all the adverse attacks on humanity are all coincidence without malevolent intent. This question is philosophical and speculative endeavor to be sure, but maybe one that has to be addressed in order to find solutions.

    my favourite quote from Chuck Mahorn is that civil engineers should not be allowed to make moral judgements. we have to separately decide as a collective (borough, city, state whatever) what are the priorities, and non-negotiables, and guidelines. The engineer will always find a solution, but the engineer cannot in his capacity as engineer also be the decider of what the scope is for the solution. This is even true in a retail store hiring IT support. No body let’s the computer engineers define the scope. Every business defines the scope and the engineers create the solutions.

    Those vaulted floors looks very nice, but for me, they are more an academic solution for an academic problem. There are already flooring systems that safe material, i.e. BubbleDeck. Even a precast half slab (with open reinforcement) turned upside down will save you a lot of material (concrete). More material can be saved if the floors have moment resisting connections with the columns.

    embrace ai? the sagrada familia, casa milà, Hallgrimskirkjaíð- was it ai or man which wrought their splendor? ai does not iterate, but palidly imitates the majesty which with we are already in faculty of. it is a foul mockery of wonder. your further desire to alienate humanity from the world we live in, the buildings we trespass, is the hubris which is punished by the nemesis of the steinway tower and all of its cancerous ilk.

  • @BuildingCulture
    @BuildingCultureАй бұрын

    Woah. You should definitely listen to full episode. You are assuming a lot here. We believe in human driven design. The world we live in is not. We’d love to bring back the building of great architecture. Sagrada Familia is one of my (Austin) first inspirations. But we cannot build like that today because. Trust me. We want to, and try, and are hindered by costs. AI and robots can literally help us bring those costs down carving stone-conceived, designed and finished by humans-in the service of great, lasting architecture. If we don’t embrace it? You’ll never see great architecture again at any scale, as we haven’t for the past 100 years. Of course it can be used poorly. As can all tech. But there are huge opportunities, too
