Have you done any studies on people with IIH and MTHFT C677T mutations?? I have IIH and was told by a very prestigious neurosurgeon that it was caused by the mutation.

My dear friend who I dated back in 1999-2000 is dealing with something she doesn't understand, and Doctors can't give her answers she needs.... she got a bacterial infection years ago then brain fog...PCOS and her head feels tight etc., she has the symptoms of Encephalitis or Meningitis....she wants a lumbar but is afraid any suggestions? My doctor considers an inconsistent drug test result, even in a preliminary presumptive test, to be a violation of the pain agreement. Even when I pass the confirmation test later. I now have three violations tallied against me and I wonder when he's going to decide that I have too many. So far, he's still writing me a script every month.

Really helpful talk. I guess the different groups will be infectious, non-infectious(autoimmune n neoplastic), others n unknown. A direct Metagenomics screen can help clinicians proceed for autoimmune n tat will be very helpful. Another problem in classification is the subacute form of autoimmune encephalitis. How should encephalitis be classified in this terms for a research study?

I have low lying cerebellar tonsils, systemic inflammation, elevated ESR, CRP, Platelets, No iron in bone marrow, Hypothyroidism with suspected Cushing's Syndrome. Lipidema of Arms, Legs, Buttocks, History of Migraine w/ Aura & Ice Pick Headaches (Neuro called it Trigeminal Autonomic Cephalgia) I eat one meal a day and it's usually clean. Just a bag of steamed veggies or something. I water fast or drink black or Matcha tea the rest of the time. I'm 320 lbs but can gain or lose 20 lbs in 24-48 hrs. I have every specialist you can name and they cannot pinpoint anything definitively. Now the eye doc and Neuro say I have this IIH. I am considering Gastric sleeve, but I already don't eat and struggle with absorption issues plus the Lipidema. Help.

Regarding the slide on Plasmapheresis exchange where is says " 45% of IgG is intravascular vs. 75% of IgM" ,"five plasma exchanges removes 90% of the initial IgG" so does this mean plasma exchange removes IgM also ,and maybe more IgM than IgG ?

Don't forget to check for West Nile Virus when you can't find another cause of encephalitis . Especially when considering Rituxan .

Had a gastric bypass 2 almost 3 years ago- halved my body weight- bad news I still have my pseudomotor cerebri at 180 that I had at 365- empty Sella, optic and visual deficit- now being screened for Chiari 1 and syrinx in my spinal cord . OOPSIE-DOOPSIE something still isn't right- think positive thoughts- and prayers 🙏 wouldn't be out of bounds.

my daughter was diagnosed last month she is 10 years old and underweight.She does not have headaches (she does not process pain normally) however has vision issues from migraines. And it has already effected her eye sight.

How would migraine encephelopathy fit into your talk.i have Intractable migraines and I do not respond to ANY, medications.in order to have ANY quality of life I am on hydromorphone 24/7 365 yr.activity makes the pain go up so I'm restricted in what I can do.my blood pressure goes up if I'm in a pain flare and my pulse does too.my body temperature is hot and makes me sweat.i can feel the heat coming from the back of my neck and top of my head.there is no cure or treatment and it's far worse than chronic pain.

Sorry to hear that, EM can be debilitating and treatment is minimal if any good. I would first try to get hormone levels checked (T3, T4, TSH, Adrenal hormones and especially PTH) because these are triggers, also I would request plasmapherisis and IVIG. Lastly if any good try different diets.

2 things you should know: first, IIH can be caused by a chronic, hard to diagnose infection called Lyme Disease. Second, Wim Hof breathing method seems to bring some relief with this IIH symptom. I hae no affiliation to anything, just trying to help: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12972207 Check ILADS (www.ilads.org/) to know more on lyme disease.
