I have been a family studies teacher for more than 35 years. I now work at the Faculty of Education helping to educate future family studies teachers. Our current curriculum is so full of amazing content and skill for ALL students. Our classes not only teach practical skills but they help students learn about the challenging issues we are all facing - housing insecurity, food and inflation, diet culture and body image, indigenous and diverse perspectives, and of course financial literacy. We offer courses for students heading to all destinations - work, college, apprenticeships, and university. We offer courses for students who are in special education classes and newcomers to Canada. Our courses allow all students to shine. I have been in classrooms where students from Syria or Somalia were able to teach their classmates how to sew or to share how to make foods that their families enjoy in their homes. In today's world students need a safe place to learn about diverse families and healthy relationships. The learning that happens in family studies classrooms is 100% needed by all students.

I'm sorry but Cynthia excusing behavior because of a bad day... I've had plenty of bad days and never taken it out on strangers. Making someone cry because you've had a shitty day is just a shitty person.

I don't know... I've gotten mad at a server before. I wasn't having the greatest day to begin with and the server wasn't doing a good job. I asked for my drink 4 times and she kept "forgetting" it. The service wasn't good overall. After I was done, she brought the bill quickly and I told her the service wasn't good and that I won't be tipping. She seemed upset and said she tried her best. Like she was playing victim in the situation. She chatted with the table across from us for 15 minutes while refusing us timely service. There are 2 sides to every story and complaints are sometimes justified. The restaurant I went to was closed down for diversity and inclusion training of staff months after my incident there. Supposedly they had complaints from other POC's and minorities who had poor service there as well. Sometimes staff have biases and it takes customers making a scene or standing up for themselves in order for the staff to realize this because they could be clueless and feel like they are being attacked for no reason. Yes, there are customers who are just horrible, miserable people but there's always 2 sides to a story

What a neat story, and so glad to hear Cooperators making a difference. I never understood why so many things are just thrown out, so glad to see some work is being done to change that. I have taken photographs of special pieces I own in case there was ever a fire where I lost the items but most importantly, I've been scanning all my physical photographs that I was given by my mom of my childhood so if the worst happened, I at least have digital copies :)

Real world skills, dealing with money, budgeting, paying bills, grocery shopping, laundry, dealing with a vehicle, how to rent an apartment, get access to cable/water/hydro etc. How about making a proper phone call, kids don’t know how and get panicked about doing so. Hold conversations with adults and sound intelligent/ interviewing skills before they turn 14/15 so they can get jobs when legally allowed. At some point there should be a class about how to be in a long term relationship. Dealing with the major issues that come up, ie finances, communication skills, how to deal with a fight because there actually is a way to handle having disagreements and communication about issues that arise.

Curriculum everywhere should be revamped and I understand that a lot of stuff can be learned by watching KZread or by your parents teaching you, but you're already in school all day and have to pass classes to graduate so why not throw in some courses about the real world, wouldn't hurt to learn new skills!

I love Cynthia's comments, and would like to know if this is something he is known for or if it was a one-off. That being said, I don't think I could ever (and I haven't yet) bring myself to yell at a restaurant worker, so maybe he thought he could act this way because of his celebrity status, which is not cool.

Players have to speak the media after games. It’s a rule for most pro athletes. When they don’t, they get a fine. Sometimes the player or the team feel like it’s worth taking that fine for whatever reason. I’ve seen it happen in hockey, tennis when there’s so much controversy going on or if the player is too emotional after a loss etc. So to me Angel not facing the media that day (and rightfully get fined) is not a big deal unless she does that every game or every time she faces CC. As far as trash talking, I disagree with the ladies. It’s always been a part of the game, even at junior levels kids will talk trash. I feel like this seems to be a big deal only to people who just tuned in the WNBA and don’t watch a lot of sports.

You can’t expect to cherry pick the things you want to deal with being in a sport and the spotlight getting big bucks and all the benefits that the guys get without having to deal with some of the crappy stuff too. You can’t expect to cry but I’m a girl, it’s not fair, or even mental health. The guys have had to deal for years, it’s part of the game. If you know it’s part of the game and your contract, sorry (this may upset someone) but…suck it up or get out of the game.

I believe it’s all due to the person who asks and the mindset of it. Are they someone close or not and are they asking due to the happiness of the couples future together or just out of curiosity that they might split. *If they are not close and are asking out of curiosity* DO NOT ASK!
