We are a small, family beekeeping operation in Knox County, Tennessee. Our focus is the production of raw honey collected from local wildflowers. In this KZread channel we share videos made about bees and beekeeping that may interest other beekeepers and the general public.

Do they sell these in the USA?
do not use bee gloves when touching hot things, the goat skin will be ruined, use real leather gloves. I ruined a great pr of bee gloves
Link?
I use the gas-vap and like it very much. The torch though is another story. Have you found another torch that works more consistently?
Your telling me that don’t kill bees
it just kills the mites, it does piss the bees off for a couple minutes but they get over it... just check out wood bleach or oxalic acid, made from plants. will not kill humans either but if you get a whiff of it, you will want to cough up a lung
I love mine,,, been using it for 4 season on 25 hive or better,, or less ,,,
I am new to OA treatments…..what would be the harm of adding the OA directly to the vaporizer….then capping and lighting the torch? The rotation of the vaporizer seems like a step that could be eliminated. Thoughts?
Hi body! Where can I buy a gas bottle? My bottle is empty! Thank for answers! You have a great time
Where do You buy OA? (I'm in UK as well). Great video! Thank You
How you will know how much temperature will be in that vaponizer? should have some special temperature for that acid,or don't need special temperature. Thanks
Bună ziua! Nu se Încintă dispozitivul?
It was not hot at the beginning of the video while I'm holding it with no gloves. After using it, yes, it gets very hot.
what is the temperature inside the chamber ??
I don't know how hot it gets, but it is hot enough to sublimate the Oxalic Acid.
How many grams of oxalic acid are in a measuring spoon? On the website and in the videos, no one mentions the dosage and how much to pour.
Such a great idea!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
A couple of items for you in the future....you NEED to wear a proper mask respirator and goggles for protection (using Oxalic Acid vapors) can be very harmful breathing in or on unprotected eyes. Also use thick leather (welders) gloves as the unit gets VERY HOT. Also you should do your treatments early in the morning when almost all of the bees are in the hive. Also close up the hive entrances (also if you have an upper entrance) with a towel during treatments. The idea is to keep the vapor and bees inside the hive for the duration of the treatment to be most effective. Doing so does not adversely affect the bees (although they don’t seem to like it) and once the towels plugging up the entrances are removed the bees will quickly start fanning to ventilate the hive. I do like your use of a cookie sheet to set the hot Gas-Vap on instead of the wood top or plastic if your using a plastic Apimaye hive.
All good suggestions, though I do use a mask while applying the vapor (you can see it in the video when I bend down in one of the shots).
ok Karen
Nice Video.. don't worry about the"gets hot turns to Formic Acid & Co2 " comments..I've researched it and it's less than 1% it's actually like 0.57% formic anytime sublimation happens.. you don't want it gassing too fast they say but it's such a small amount it's for scientist ..if oa doesn't gas off and you heat it back up it will create Co2.. same as if you Heated so fast it went past 375 instantly,it'd create Co2 and not be effective..but in the real world it gases off no Co2 and barely trace amount of Formic, same as pro Vap,same as wand... Nobody wants sterilize Queens dead brood and bees..I'll be using my gas vap soon as weather breaks
Thanks for that info. I was wondering about that since others have mentioned it.
@@flatcreekbees869 yes it sounds very scary, alot of us have killed hives with formic, even at half strength, even in cool temperatures.. Bee Source has some forums and links if you want to look into it further 👍
Hi, how many grams o.a. do you use to every hive? I have read that it needs 2 gr. You have put 2 spoons
I have been using 2 gr per full brood box.
Should be wearing a respirator mask! What he is doing is very dangerous!!!!
I do wear a mask when actually applying the OAV.

You just filled a hot torch with butane? WOW. I hope you time lapsed that
I dunked it in a bucket of water before I refilled it.
@@flatcreekbees869 Cool. I was hoping you did something to cool it down with the torch being so hot.
I also bought a gas-vap from the originator in the UK earlier this year since they didn’t have a distributor yet in the USA. It was very reasonably priced and I love the convenience. Just need to carry some extra butane to fill it up periodically. Some have said to be careful with getting it too hot so I try and keep the flame setting near the lowest point.
I saw the "too hot" comments as well. That is one thing I wish I could control better on this device. I need to do some more research on how to tell if the OA got too hot without a temperature readout.
@@flatcreekbees869 Did you have any problems with the oxalic acid stopping up the brass tube on your Gas Vap? I have the Easy Vap system from Weller Bee Supply and ran into this issue. If I didn't preheat the system and run the flame hotter then normal the brass tube stopped up. Some people who use Gas Vap's & the Pro Vap's seem to get a huge vapor cloud from the Oxalic Acid but I can't seem to duplicate that. I don't know if I am getting the system to hot or I have another issue. Thanks for the help.
@@HereWeGoSteelers Depends on how cold it is outside. In colder weather I do have to occasionally clear the tube. The scoop that came with the Gas-Vap has a handle that fits right inside the tube so I just push it through a couple of times if there is buildup.
Where did you get this gas-vap? I only seem to find weller bee supply. I’m just wondering if I could get the copper piece and then source a torch
I bought it from bridge-cottage.com in the UK. The original torch broke and found a similar unit on Amazon--search for this number: B0176TZO9E
nice tool
It sure is!
Do you know if it is a problem to still have feeding with sirop during the OA sublimation treatment? At the end I suppose that there will be also always some uncapped honey during a summer treatment
I don't know for sure about having syrup on the hives, but I have not seen anyone mention this as an issue.
Take off any supers before treating with OA.
How are ya, Flat Creek Bees. exciting video. thank. :)
Glad you enjoyed it.
