    Regrettably I no longer have the monitor, and it may now have been discontinued though I assure you it was and remained 8k throughout all of Dell's revisions. (see 9:18) Dual DisplayPort v1.4 connections combined with a GPU that supported "tiling" were required to attain its maximum resolution at a refresh rate of 60hz, which it achieved by stitching two separate vertically apportioned images together, each occupying 50% of the screen. Colour gamut coverage was outstanding for all its available arrays, whilst clarity and vibrancy were, from a subjective standpoint, superior to the Asus PA32UCG-K -- another flagship model aimed squarely at the professional market - which I replaced it with - despite its marginally cheaper price, and lack of HDR support. This was broadly down to the IPS panel's "gloss" finish, which helped it provide exceptional off axis visibility for an edge illuminated display even in side by side comparisons with the Asus' Mini LED backlight, which provides more than 1000 local dimming zones and a peak brightness over 3 times higher. The additional desktop real estate was invaluable for workflows involving multiple windows, no hassle with constant dragging, minimising, and resizing according to which application you were actively using! The only reason I "side-graded" was due to a need for additional inputs and G-Sync compatibility, which the Asus enables via its primary HDMI 2.1 port, along with Freesync Premium Pro.

    Interesting... That track was written for the MT-32 and the orchestration actually sounds better (to my ears at least) on the 36 years old MT-32 than it does on the Integra 7 ☺

  • @Gigadenza
    @Gigadenza Жыл бұрын

    I actually agree. The percussion instruments - drums, marimbas and xylophones etc - are all too prominent and frequently drown out the pan pipes, which should clearly carry the main melody. The MT32s mix is better balanced (arguably even via MUNT) than any other synth I've tested with the same track, no doubt due to the fact that it was originally composed and arranged for it. There is the option of adjusting the levels of individual instruments within MIDI sequencing software, but this wouldn't accurately convey how each module sounded when used with emulators such as SCUMM VM.

    Hi, will you recommend this desk over the presonus ar16 or mackie 1604i?

  • @Gigadenza
    @Gigadenza2 жыл бұрын

    Hello there not having used either of those desks I could not give you a definitive answer I would however personally eliminate the Presonus on account of its lower number of preamps (only 12 mic pres compared to 16) less versatile EQ section - the Mackie appears to have a quad band (low/low-mid/mid and high) with two sweeps, putting it ahead of the other two, both of which are triple band (low/mid/high) with one sweep, though both the Mackie and Phonic have sweep controls on all 16 channels whereas the Presonus only features them on the first 8. Beyond that the Mackie and Phonic have significantly greater connectivity overall - 8 aux sends and 6 returns a piece compared to only 3 sends and zero returns for the Presonus. Plus the four “sub group” channels/outputs which can be used to transmit “mixes” of channels 1 to 16 in any combination. I,d personally still pick the Phonic since it appears to combine the best features of the other two - the integrated fx of the Presonus (absent in the Mackie) and almost the same plethora of I/O as the Mackie.- with additional digital connections (spdif/aes) both of which are very crucial to my workflow, though I would concede the Mackie may harbour higher quality preamps. However, if you must have SD card recording, I guess the Presonus is your only option. hope this helps!! Oh, and don’t overlook the Phonic’s compact footprint, it’s an absolute Godsend in confined studios,

    Just to be clear. Does this card have a built in pcie bifurcation chip?

  • @Gigadenza
    @Gigadenza2 жыл бұрын

    Hello! If by this you mean "can it conditionally route data transfers between its installed SSDs and specific lanes on the host system's motherboard when either: A) The slot it is installed in has fewer than 16 PCI-e lanes electrically connected or B) The lanes on the motherboard are already allocated to other components, even though the slot is both electrically x16, and psychically full length. Then, as far as I'm aware, the card's integrated multiplexer (PLX chip) is designed to do precisely that and I believe is also sometimes referred to as a "bifurcation chip" which, though perhaps incorrect by formal definition, is accurate from a purely functional perspective! I cannot however guarantee this since I never had the chance to test it in a x8 or x4 slot, or with a motherboard that prioritized PCI-E bandwidth to other peripherals. Hope this helps.

    Hello! I'm afraid I've no experience whatsoever of running the desk (or pretty much any other compter hardware) within an Mac setup but according to page 16 of the manual, "driver installation should not be necessary if the desk is connected using the Firewire/1394 interface". I suspect this is becuase it is identified by the OS's indigienous audio drivers, which would then configure it to function as a "class compliant" device, though I also note that the desk emerged in 2016 at around time as MacOS 10 (Sierra) was release...and Apple's habit of myteriously dropping support for both components and applications on the grounds of supposedly obselete drivers, security flaws, developer negligence....or offensive colour schemes is well documented! Do let me know how you get on. I'm still wishing I hadn't sold my unit!

    @@TheNimasan I'm never sure half the time if Phonic's tech dept - or at least those members of it communicating with customers - have a clue what hardware they've manufacturered or when it was released. To my knowledge, there have been several revisions of the Helixboard. The first two were Firewire only models - respectively released in around 2006 and 2008, I the believe the later "mark II model" included an updated power supply and I suspect it's this specific unit your contact was referring to. The one you have - and that is featured in this video - was the thrd and final version which inherited all of the Firewire MK II's features and added a USB 2 interface. Not certain as to precicely when it was launched but the earliest forum post I can find dates back to 2013, hence they are evidently claming that it was discontinued at least two years BEFORE it was commercially available! As stated, this is fairly typical of Phonic's knowledge and dispostition relating to our enquiries. A number of their products have only materliased at exhibitions (the Helixboard 32i being one such example), and detailed information is extremely difficult to unearth. I'm personally also on the lookout for their "IS16", which WAS available as a retail product and is essentially a fully digital version of the Helixboard. Sadly, going by one very thorough review on Amazon US, the confusion surrounding this model's precise specifications is every bit as abundant! Again, I wish you the very best of luck and do report back if you feel inclined!

    @@TheNimasan I WAS fine with it and very much regret selling up for a A Yamaha 0196i - the closest "all digital" match I could find to an IS16, which I'd I'd originally intended to replace it with. I needed something with a few more inputs and an identical footprint, it was perfect in every other respect. Having 4 sub groups combined with 6 Aux sends and 8 returns made for extremely flexable routing to my synths, as did the provision of Firewire USB AND SPDIF digital connections. I honestly can't identify desk currently in producion that is as compact, practically appointed or offers anything like the same array of connectivity and with hindsight, had I been a little more creative in hooking things up, I needn't have sold it at all! I also looked very seriously as the Presonus Studiolives, specifically the "Series 2 16 and 24 AI" models with Firewire 800 interfaces, don't much care for the series three as I'm extremely cautious of anything that relies heavily on remote control since it can place you at the mercy of another company's eco system and if, for example, Apple were to ammend its very stringent validation procedures or Presonus stopped developing the applicable software you could basically be left with a semi-functional product or worse.

    Is this better than using the Hyper M.2 or similar card?

  • @Gigadenza
    @Gigadenza3 жыл бұрын

    The Hyper M.2 is specifically intended for platforms supporting Intel's VROC system, (virtual RAID on CPU) or at the very least motherboards that allow four PCI-E lanes to be specifically allocated to each module - this is known as "bifurcation", I gather numerous x399/Threadripper combinations will work though I've not tested any personally. Moreover, the physical x16 slot you use must have all 16 lanes available since the card doesn't appear to have any way of internally and "intelligently" routing data from each device to specific lanes when others are already occupied by different system components. If your setup meets either or both of these stipulations, the Hyper M.2 would indeed appear to be a significantly cheaper means of procuring the same or very similar performance. Highpoint's Cards by contrast support multiple RAID configurations regardless of your motherboard/CPU or chipset and many now offer the option to create a bootable array. They can also intelligently route data to unpopulated PCI-E lanes via on-board multiplexor (PLX chips), though as far as I know, none is true "hardware RAID" in the sense of harbouring on-board I/O processor and a seperate BIOS in which you configure arrays and/or carry diagnostics. Regarding the former, even today's mid-range NVME SSDs are so fast that a dedicated CPU would be all but redundant. This particular model was superseded quite some time ago quite and several successors not only support PCI-E Gen 4 NVME SSDs at their optimal speeds but also feature much quieter fans or are passively cooled. Take a look at the SSD7505 (a PCI-E 4.0 card supporting up to 4 Gen 4 modules and bootable RAID 0, 1 and 10), the SSD7140 (up to 8 SSDs, but only PCI-E Gen 3 and non-bootable), or the SSD7202 (a low-profile x8 card supporting a dual Gen 3.0 drives configurable as bootable arrays). You might also want to look at the latest M.2 4x4 Card from Sonnet (www.sonnettech.com/product/m2-4x4-pcie-card/overview.html), which is passively cooled but limited to Gen 3 speeds and only implements bootable arrays on McOS. Hope this is of some helps! Best of luck!!

  • @Gigadenza
    @Gigadenza3 жыл бұрын

    Hello. I've not used that particular card but I believe it is designed specifically for hardware platforms which support Intel's VROC (Virtual RAID on CPU) and requires both a compatible motherboard and CPU in order for RAID arrays to be implemented. If you are trying to use it with SSDs setup as individual devices then the detection and accessibility of the drives appears to depend entirely on the number of PCI-E lanes made available by both the slot your are installing the card in and your CPU. Furthermore, the card doesn't appear to have any way of internally routing data from each device to specific PCI-E lanes when others are already occupied by different system components , which might explain why you're only seeing one SSD. Have you tested the card in every other PCI-E slot on your motherboard? In order for all four SSDs to be accessible you'll need a x16 slot with ALL 16 lanes allocated to it, if its only physically a x16 slot but with 8 or fewer lanes assigned then the number of drives recognised will decrease accordingly. Hope this is of some help!

    It was obvious to anyone not drinking the green kool aid that as soon as Jay was throwing other partners under the bus that this was way more complicated than that. Nvidia not only provides the spec sheet for the cards to their partners, they also have to approve the designs themselves and don't allow partners total freedom when it comes to designing their cards, this is to avoid having a terrible product attached to their name among other things. If Nvidia had known that certain cap arrangements were guaranteed to fail they would have not approved those designs or given a more strict spec sheet to the partners. No, this was all a result of how retardedly power hungry Ampere is, with these insane power peaks. It was observed that crashes would occur mostly when the card was at a high power state low load boosting close to or beyond 2.1Ghz and then switching to a heavy load high power state, which accompanied with a voltage change and frequency drop, causing ripples that were too much for the power delivery to handle, as explained correctly in this video. But none of this matters now, it's all been memory holed by the Nvidia Defence Force and their Shill in Chief JayzTwoCents (maybe we should start calling him JazTwoDollars, because they're green). Very nice video, subscribed.
