This is a phenomenally wonderful performance! This performance reminded me of the enthusiasm and euphoria I felt when I first heard this music. His CD of Bruckner's complete symphonies was very good, but his Wagner was even better. I am convinced that Marcus Bosch is the greatest Wagner conductor of our time, comparable to Thielemann and Runnicles! Bayreuth should get rid of all the stupid female conductors and get this Bosch!

Exciting conducting from Solti. Though the singers seem like they really need to push to be heard over the louder, heavier parts.

I want to be clear that it was not my intent to shame the trumpet player, although I can imagine the shame they might be feeling. I followed along with the score and it appeared that they came in early so I posed the question with hesitation. I looked at it again days later and indeed they came in early. I do have to say that even though they came in one bar early, they did not stop part way to make it look like it really was a mistake. They kept at it with full force and landed the next set of hits perfectly on the second beat of the bar and closed the first section out perfectly. If you're going to make a mistake in life, do it like the pros do it. Don't make it look like a mistake. Just go all in. That in and of itself is master skills. 😊

It is difficult to conceive, from today's vantage point, what this music of supreme angst and consolation, must have meant to these German audiences, to a society pulverized by conflict and the shame of the atrocities committed. 4 1/2 hours of at least theatrical forgiveness from Richard Wagner, at least, must have seemed a balm that they thought would never be extended to them again. Parsifal's journey to purity was emblematic of all Germany in the post-war years, and led by Kna, who was a cultural icon of the old guard, the broader national significance must have been simply staggering. In that time and place, Parsifal is a dream of forgiveness that made 4 1/2 hours go by in the blink of an eye.

We love this performance now, but it was heavily criticized in 1983 - Behrens wasn’t Birgit, too light, Jerusalem was a lightweight Siegmund, Altmeyer was unsteady, Solti was too loud, blah blah blah. It’s funny how opinions change over the years!

Such a pity that there is no film of this production, as it was the only Bayreuth Ring in living memory that made a serious attempt at a staging with images sympathetic to those Wagner had in mind. It didn't always succeed, but at best, eg: the opening of Rheingold, entry into Walhall, forest scenes of Siegfried & Gotterdammerung, and the Gibichung Hall, it was unforgettable to watch.

I’m saddened that I’m too young to have seen Solti or Furtwangler at the podium for a Ring performance…….then again. These “modern” art house trash stagings are out of control. I can’t hear Wieland Wagner’s hoofbeats every time a thin-voiced soprano enters the stage in a cocktail dress.

A perfect upload with no cue jumps or ''blips'. The sound, for its time, is very good though it slightly favours the singers. However, this is such an important historic sound document, that any criticism is pointless. May thanks for this treasure.
