  14:03. I 100% agree! Volume and power really should be different controls! 1) I do not want to adjust my volume level when I turn the device on and off! 2) I do not want to place a bunch of wear and tear on the volume pot just because I want to turn on and off my device everyday.

  10:20. The reason the v3's case temp hit 60c (vs 40c on the A07) is because Fosi is specifically using the entire case as a heatsink, so the case is seeing more of the actual heat being generated, and is actively working to dispel it into the room. Whereas the Aiyima's case heat is simply the byproduct of the air in the case heating up, and then heating the case (still air is a poor conductor, and thus most of the heat isn't being seen at the case, which is why it's overheating). This means the Fosi case measurement is MUCH closer to the actual temp of the TPA3255 package, where the Aiyima TPA3255 package temp could easily be up over 95c. (Most ICs start failing in the mid to high ~90c range.) 10:37. So this is the point, at 66c, the v3's TPA3255 package hit the same temp the A07's package was at, when measured at 40c, and went into thermal protection. That is a very significant difference, not only in operational duration (1.6 minutes vs 10 minutes), but in terms of thermal expression, at about 165% that of the A07! You could probably make the v3 run indefinitely if you simply pointed a fan at it, with no modifications needed. Whereas, an external fan probably will not greatly improve the A07. Of course, since this is a synthetic test, the v3 is unlikely to actually need active cooling in real world usage.

  nice review! I'm recently came back to audio gear interest with these budget amps. The aluminium casing on these products is absurd, it just seals in heat which is bad for capacitors and peak usage while adding to cost, just to have a professional more expensive look. Can you review the ZK or Wuzhi boards? Can you also review this KGUSS PA8 or similar of different branding?

  The aluminum housings also limit RF radiation from the PWM switching. At 330khz these little amps, out of their case, will interfere with the AM radio broadcast band (550 to 1600 khz) quite badly.

  It's the heat sink coupled to the case is what makes the V3 better under stress -- the drilled vent holes are pretty much eye candy. Your speakers must have pretty low sensitivity -- in over two years of near-constant use, the two A07s (powered by one 48V @ 10A SMPS dialed down to 46V) that drive the (8 ohm) ambience/surround speakers in my 7.1 setup have never gone into protection regardless of volume The other improved specs of the V3, while impressive, offer no significant advantage in my particular use case -- but if I were to purchase two little TPA3255-based power amps today, they would definitely be V3s. Time marches on, and the A07 was designed back in 2020 with only trivial improvements -- the heat sink on yours is bigger than the ones in mine, and I'm sure Aiyima has corrected the reversed L+R connections on the 3.5mm TRS jacks that my two have -- since then, and the V3 is a better piece of gear overall. Not to rain on your Amazon Affiliate parade, but for folks like me who already own suitable power supplies, the best V3 deal is from Fosi Audio via eBay: $50.39 with free shipping!

  I had both of them even replaced their op amp with sparkos and i feel v3 have a bigger sound than the a07 ,sound quality is almost the same, though price wise if you opt for the 48v power supply of the v3 almost the same

  It is a subjective choice for most people as to what a ‘bargain’ is these days…what some say is a ‘budget choice’ often leaves me thinking they are not in touch with the real world. The V3 is more than one amplifier, for example, the Yamaha AS201 is not. The V3 can be made to sound very similar to an muscular class A/B or a well detailed class A/B amplifier at the switch of two small components at very little cost. Switching the op amps can literally give 2 maybe 3 different sound signatures or in other words sound similar to an new Denon, Rotel or Cambridge Audio…and that’s a fact! I can pick out different op amp that will give me the sound of each one of those amplifiers and just pop them into the V3, now that’s a bargain! The op amps cost a few Pounds/Dollars, the amplifiers that they will sound like cost a few hundred and who is going to buy 3 of them at well over a £1000 or $1300 unless they are very rich? There is also desk space which the Yamaha will simply not allow. These days many, many people only use one input. I have had numerous big amps with many inputs and still found I only ever really used one and that is mainly for a dac over the last 10 years. Then the is the DAC itself that while many amps like the Yamaha have Bluetooth included they will never match the quality of an modern external dac. I had a Rotel A11 Tribute that has superior Bluetooth over the Yamaha and I still never used it and wasn’t better than the external DAC that I was also using. To be honest Bluetooth is awful, it always has been and still is. It was invented for telephone calls and not music. Then we have Airplay which far superior to Bluetooth and with something like the Wiim Mini plugged into a SMSL SU1 and an V3 you will have a far superior sound quality and optional digital inputs than the Yamaha and also cheaper if you shop clever! Something else to consider is the an external dac will be far superior to 99% of all current amplifiers on the market today up to £1500/$1800 and even more! The Yamaha is not a flexible as it is being shown here, it is for adding extra equipment (primarily analogue based) that is also going to cost you a lot more money and only has one choice of sound signature which is good if you like the sound of the Yamaha but you are stuck or having to return it if you don’t. Then there is maintenance, the V3 will be far easier to repair if something goes wrong. So is the Yamaha such a bargain and does it have the convenience that comes with the V3…you decide for yourself but for me I would prefer of the flexibility of the V3 in regards to sound quality and signature, the size in regards to space and maintenance. There is also the fact that you can have more flexibility when choosing speakers as you are not stuck with one stock sound as you would be with the Yamaha as well as other untouchable amplifiers. You can tailor the Fosi Audio to probably any set of speakers in regards to sound and power! If you have hard to drive speakers then the bigger power supply will compensate for that as a smaller power supply will compensate for more efficient speakers…so you may save money there too…

  It looks like I need to drill some holes in my A07s case and couple the heat sink to the case with some copper braid. I have some 2.inch pancake fans that might help too.

  A simple swiss cheese hole pattern above the heatsink should do the job. I have one client who drilled a 5-4-5 three row pattern of 3/16th holes into the top, right above the heat sink ... no more thermal shutdowns. (Be sure to disassemble the amp first...)

  Thanks for an excellent test and video. A quick question: you say the capacitors in the A07 are unknown but in the video you can clearly see Nichicon written on the side of both capacitors?

  That pictures were actually downloaded from forums which indicate aiyima swap/downgrade the capacitors from time to time.

  At least you're thorough on testing and actually have equipment that works. One "diyaudio" channel just said "my equipment died" and didn't measure it at all, instead of holding off until he got working test equipment.

  Thanks for the review. I have recently purchased a lesser known brand of TPA3255 amplifier, the Windom BRU5 with similar heat management design as the Fossi V3. My personal experience of the Windom model is showing that case temperature rised to uncomfortable level with 48V power supply, but at 32V it performed well, granted I never “stress tested” it. One unique feature of the Windom is its built in DSP EQ, which is quite effective to compensate speaker frequency response faults. The EQ function requires additional Windows based software for $20, which I have previously purchased for Arylic Wi-Fi streaming modules. Another benefit of BRU5 is its built in Bluetooth 5.0. I’d be interested to see a comparison review of Windom BRU5 against Fossi V3.
