The scariest thing about collecting Hot Toys is how it so quickly changes your perception of cost. Recently, for example, I managed to pick up the very rare and sought after, (at least it is here in the UK), Han in Stormtrooper disguise figure from A New Hope for an extremely good price of £315 ($407) and thought, "Bargain!", whereas before I started collecting, the thought of spending basically a third of a grand on, essentially, an action figure would've sounded nuts.. and when I think of it even now, it is nuts.. but I have absolutely no regrets! 😅

What came to mind after hearing your thoughts and analysis of Baylan’s goals for himself, Shin, and the potential future “Jedi” is intriguing. To be honest, I have no idea what they are going to do, nor will I try to predict the creative direction. However, I believe it is likely along the same lines as Darth Bane's Rule of Two-a redefinition of the Jedi, as the Sith are the only ones who have achieved an evolution or a step up of sorts with their rule of two. So, Baylan searching for something "more" is definitely to seek great knowledge, much like Darth Bane finding Darth Revan's Holocron-someone to guide him to something greater. Perhaps it will be one of those celestial beings like the Force Father or the Dark Side Brother, or maybe a great Jedi from the past to communicate with, or perhaps even a very dark Jedi or a Sith Lord. It’s really hard to tell what they have in mind.

I only buy what I absolutely love. My Star wars hot toys collection is limited to Empire strikes back only and then only the main cast. Once I get Bespin Han, Bespin escape Leia and Chewie I'm done. I collect action figures in general mostly 1/6 scale but not necessarily hot toys so I'm not a "hot toys collector" as in I dont collect them just because they are hot toys. I've been collecting action figures for the last 34 years. I'm almost done, I have mostly what I want. Star wars and marvel comics figures are my main thing, I'm not that interested in the MCU just a few characters. I dont care about finishing lines and I will mix and match for example for my empire strikes back display I'm using the obi wan Vader because I think its the best one. I dont care that its not the empire strikes back one. I dont like the empire strikes back vader, I also have jedi C3PO and AOTC R2 which both look the same as the empire movies versions but some collectors will feel they need the correct versions even though they all look the same. I use youtube to see reviews and admire other collectors collections but I'm in no way influenced by them or have not bought a figure I didn't want based on any influencers advice. I was so excited to see a live-action Ezra because they did Sabine Wren and Ahsoka so well. But when I saw him, I was just dumbfounded. I was like, "Are you serious?" The same goes for Thrawn, though not as bad as Ezra. Why is it always the trope that the Jedi is a recluse hermit? Why wasn't he doing anything more interesting than traveling with the natives? To be honest, I think the medium through which you are introduced to these characters stays in your mind, so when it's changed to a different medium, it's hard to change your perception of it. If they had started with live action and then moved to animation, maybe I would think differently. But I do have to admit, the line "You must wait; he is coming" gave me chills for Thrawn's arrival.

  • @DarthTamarus

@@nebulavoyager21 I don’t think going from animation to live action works the same as it does the other way around. At least not in this specific example. I really enjoyed Rebels. Mind you I watched it after TCW so of course it wasn’t as good-getting used to the art style and younger audience target was hard-but I still enjoyed it. Especially in the last two seasons. But I feel like it’s just another travesty that these characters were brought into live action and fumbled. Sure they LOOK the part. But almost every character from Rebels that we saw in the Ahsoka series has been highly diminished in my mind compared to how I felt about them in Rebels. Now that could be bad story telling, writing, acting, etc, I’m not sure. But every character felt removed from their animated counterpart. Ironically, I would say Ezra felt the most similar to his OG character but he was so underutilized. Imo, they obviously just wanted to tell a story about Sabine and Ahsoka and sideline everyone else.

Great video! I actually didn't enjoy this book as much as others have. I thought that the author did a commendable job with keeping Kenobi in character, dealing with his connection to the Force, keeping him on Tatooine, and included a deft exploration into the Tusken Raiders (that, in my opinion, was completed within the show 'The Book of Boba Fett'). I liked the sequences around the moisture meters/vaporators, and exploring more of the science into how they operated and their beneficial relationship to Tatooine society. But I didn't enjoy the love story in this book and everything that surrounded it, which pretty much takes over the book once you're 50 pages into it. It was a slog for me to get through from this point all of the way to the conclusion. Even so, I felt that this story was better than what we got with the Kenobi Disney+ series. However, this is what I was hoping for with this book: the training that Yoda had for him that he mentioned at the end of Revenge of the Sith. A path of training, perhaps something akin to William Gibson's Hugo winning novel "Neuromancer", written within a counter-culture 'cyber punk' aspect with a dystopian break from Kenobi's dreary surroundings on Tatooine, leading to the 'foggy' Obi-Wan that makes stuff up on the fly and can't remember his own name by Episode IV A New Hope. Obi-Wan would have been dreadfully curious once he learned about Vader, and this would have truly lived up to Yoda's promise of "training I have for you during your exile".. He could have never left Tatooine physically, and we could have still explored concepts within the Force, perhaps even the Whills or learned more about the Prophecy of the Chosen One. But we didn't get that. We got the love story. With all that said, I appreciate the author's good, honest attempt, and the author deserves credit for staying within certain boundaries where Disney Star Wars did not.

  • @DarthTamarus

@@miragewizard I agree, having Annleen fall for Obi-Wan was kind of contrived. “The widow with the mundane life, seeking more meets mysterious man and falls for him” but I would say it’s saving grace is definitely how well he stayed in character. I’ll definitely commend him there as well. The overall story was meh, but the sub plot with the Tuskens was super interesting. Having them mention the attack on their people (whom we know is done by Anakin) was super cool to read about. I guess I came into this book with lower expectations and although it was a slow burn, I did enjoy it. Perhaps that was solely due to what we got to see with the Kenobi series and how they treated the character with such disrespect vs this story where, while the story was silly at times and, perhaps, could have been a much better one, definitely felt like OUR Obi-Wan. And could you imagine if someone was to actually tell a story like that? Having Obi-Wan somehow transfer into some other world via the Force and explore the greater depths that was ultimately immortality. I think maybe Miller thought that a way too ambitious avenue to take and maybe he didn’t want to try and fail so he told this safe story. But that would be cool to see because I would really like to know how Yoda and Obi-Wan were able to live after death.

I remember when this book came out in 1993 just after the Thrawn Trilogy. I read it completely through and thought that it was good that we got a story with events taking place right after Return Of The Jedi, but it was a yawner in my opinion and not one of my favorites. It contained a lot of themes that interestingly enough were fleshed out very well later in the timeline by different authors within the Star Wars Expanded Universe, such as Luke having a love interest (I preferred Mara Jade in the Thrawn Trilogy), the 'alien' threat that would become a new enemy (I preferred the Yuuzhan Vong in the New Jedi Order series), and a semblence of an armistice between the New Republic and the Imperial forces (Vision of the Future). So, it was an early book with a good general direction as far as how the characters would be developed, but the execution wasn't anywhere near as fleshed out as it would be later, in my opinion. I have not re-read it completely since the first read through.

The subversion that was really thinking they would bring Thrawn back but only to learn he was just a phony, but in reality he actually had planned to come back was just so artfully done. I always thought the World Between Worlds was a cool concept introduced in Clone Wars. However, when I thought about it, it seemed like it could introduce time travel, which made me unsure about how I felt when it started being used in Rebels. I didn't see it used after that. After watching Rebels, I wondered if this meant they could do time travel, change events in movies and TV shows, and create alternate realities. Solid ranking list of George Lucas's Star Wars movies. By the way, what do you think about the edit of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi where Anakin's Force Ghost is Hayden Christensen instead of the original actor? Also, this may seem weird, but in my mind, Anakin and Darth Vader are two entirely different people. I grew up watching the original trilogy first, so it's hard for me to watch the prequel trilogy and think that's Vader. In the version I watched, Anakin's Force Ghost wasn't Hayden Christensen, so I find it difficult to associate the prequel trilogy with the original trilogy. @@nebulavoyager21 That is a very interesting question. For me personally, I love Hayden’s portrayal but that’s also a very biased opinion as I grew up with him in AOTC and ROTS. I remember when I was young, Revenge of the Sith was the first film I was old enough to see marketing for and I truly didn’t know that Anakin would turn into Darth Vader so it definitely shook me lol. As per the connection between the two characters, it’s gotten easier for me to blend to two together. I can definitely see how it could be hard to close that gap so to speak as Hayden’s portrayal is so much different pre-suit vs. James Earl Jones, Sebastian Shaw and David Prowse. I guess I’ve just grown to accept it for what it is lol. As per George replacing Sebastian with Hayden in ROTJ, I understand the symbolism. As to George, Anakin died when he physically turned to the Darkside, was burned and put into the suit etc. But at the same time, it was Anakin who saved Luke from certain death at the hands of the Emperor. And that version of Anakin was portrayed by Sebastian. So setting my bias aside, I think they should have left Sebastian in the shot as it would have given him more screen time and payed a little more respect to the actor. Because regardless of what came before, that scene where he’s talking to Luke right before his death always hits me in the feels. Perhaps we could have seen him somehow transform from his older self into his younger depiction as a force ghost, but that would likely raise a lot more questions that pacify fans 😂

I've been thinking to myself about all these surviving Nightsisters that are coming out. In each of their stories, they seem to believe they are the last Nightsister. As I am exploring Disney's Star Wars, they introduce a new surviving Nightsister, almost like a new Jedi survivor. I'm just like, what's the point then of showing a massacre, for example, the Jedi massacre or the Nightsister massacre, and then showing that there are more than a few who survived? They always seem to think of themselves as the sole survivors and only ever have small tie-ins with other survivors like themselves. I am a bit perplexed about this. It's cool to see new characters and all, but when you think about it, there are so many plot holes to consider. Correct me if I am wrong; I am just confused with a bit of these new shows and events if not.

Then of course we have Merrin and Morgan Elsbeth. It’s very strange to be sure. At this point, I don’t think they really care what they retcon or change lol.

@@DarthTamarus To be honest, that was a slip of the tongue because many people can argue about how there can be only two survivors from Order 66. But when you think of Order 66, the Sith planned it to the detail. Everything was planned. Don't get me wrong, sure, it didn't go exactly as Palpatine envisioned, but the plan was still a perfect massacre of the Jedi. They were so attached to politics that they were all killed because the politicians knew everything about them. They were almost one and the same. Yeah, I don't mind new characters too. For example, Timothy Zahn's Joruus C'baoth had a backstory that was so fleshed out and well done, and that made sense to me. But like you said, it's happening so often-a new Jedi survivor appears-and these concepts have been done so many times already. For instance, the video game Jedi: Fallen Order with Cal Kestis, and there was a video game series from the late '90s and early 2000s with Kyle Katarn and a few other characters. At this point, it's not innovative ideas but more of a remake of those stories. I think the whole point of the prequel trilogy was the idea of restoring balance to the Force with two Sith and two Jedi. That was balance in the Force: where there is dark, there will be light and vice versa. But now, it's so oversaturated. Back then, the idea of other Jedi survivors was interesting, but that was just side content, not to be taken too seriously. Now it's the opposite-the movies are side content, and this new stuff is the main story. Sorry if I am ranting here. I didn't mean to go this deep into it again-slip of the tongue or words back there. But when I saw you shared the same opinion that Obi-Wan and Yoda look like chumps, I had to get it out.

@@nebulavoyager21 Yeah it’s not like it’s impossible to believe that some survived and of course Obi-Wan and Yoda were both in exile focusing on keeping Luke alive and planning their next move in that aspect. So if a couple strays got away during the purge, it makes sense. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy some of the newer “Survivors” we’ve seen since. I really enjoyed Kanan in Rebels. It’s a shame that the Ahsoka series pretty much ruined that show for me in terms of what they did with those characters. I really liked Cal, as I played the first of those games. It just seems like, more to your point, when they can’t think of anything they just decide to throw in some Jedi that survived the purge. I.e, Baylan and Shin. Super captivating characters because we know nothing about them so therefore there are no stakes at play. Disney can’t muddy their backstory or characterization because they are the ones who created them (RIP Ray Stevenson) but at the end of the day, characters like that really have no substance. They’re forgettable. And that, I think is something about this franchise that they’ll never understand. Star Wars was made nearly 50 years ago, and to this day those old legacy characters are what fans care about. None of these newer characters have any staying power. Maybe to the new fans, but it’s not the new fans who bitch and moan about their terrible creative choices. I digress, but yes I agree. Very tumultuous times as a Star Wars fan.

This is obviously months later, but it's curious to think about. As much as we hate to consider the sequel trilogy part of Star Wars at all, they sort of hinted at it in The Book of Boba Fett. I think it was when Din Djarin was visiting Grogu, and Luke Skywalker was there with Ahsoka. She says a line like, "So much like your father," or something like that. I don't remember exactly, but I am not sure if that was supposed to foreshadow the demise of Luke Skywalker for the sequel trilogy. It seems like if they did, this is a year later. If they bring him into what follows Ahsoka, it would be some fall of Luke Skywalker? Obviously, in Heir to the Empire, Luke is VERY different, so I think if they do bring him into this supposed story, they would sort of portray his fall to what he becomes in the sequel trilogy. I am personally not interested, but I thought I would share my thoughts in your comment section as I did enjoy your analysis
