    The upcoming 7.0 update will add a much better third person view to spaceships. You don't need to do that much in first person besides flying either. You can do a lot in the map. Regarding the DLCs - The base game really did not release in a good state but I am not sure it is fair to say the DLCs shouls have been included. Each DLC comes with a big free patch that adds new elements to the game. Just the extra sectors, missions and factions are locked behind the DLCs. The price is maybe a bit high for the whole package off-sale, but on sale it's definitely worth it and fair. If you enjoy the game you'll play it for 100+ hours, so paying a high ish price seems reasonable to me. Absolutely personal perfect though!

    The first thing you need to know about playing this game, is that you need to play it with mods! The base game is a really bad experience! You need a mod that removes the stupid star system for pilots (One star pilots can fly spaceships but not read a computer screen that lists goods to buy and sell) and a mod that adds satellites with system wide range, so you do not have to put 10+ satellites in every system to see what stations are selling, just one! (look at 21:02 in the video when he enables satellite coverage in a sector and all this satellite icons show up. Now imagine all of that in EVERY hexagon on the map) Then you will have a WAY better gaming experience!

    Biggest Problem with this Game: The Savegame mechanics that is still from their 90s X games. Very slow as soon as you hit the later mid-game. Loading times with nvme and cutting edge hardware evolves towarts 60-120 seconds with Savegame progression. Then when you attack with your fleet and you want to load because the fleet controls are shitty and your fleet did stupid things: 2 Minutes gone. Accidentally pressed mouse button and attacked the wrong thing: 2 Minutes gone. Also Saving also quickly starts taking ~15 seconds at that stage.

    Every time nice to see someone finds out about the X Series and falls in love with it. This games are not perfect and obviously kind of hard to step in, but they are so good in the end because this is what i call a game that focused on gameplay not a shit ton of shiny Cutscenes and kind of boring gamplay in the end. I started with X2 because my brother played it like crazy and i sit next to him looking what the hell was going on that he was so in this game, and it jumped over and I'm a fan of the series since than. Nice Video👍

    It's not that strange. The entire X line of games suffer from mostly a lack of QoL. Many player wind up dropping it due to a lack of ground game, or lack of personalization. The game is great but to lacking for most people. Honestly when Star Citizen launches if they don't step it up this franchise will die. (By QoL I mean things like the fact that almost all ships no matter how big are just a cockpit and exit ramp, You cannot customize or make your own ship designs even though you have a station builder, there is no ground combat of any kind, the station interiors feel like copy pasted empty zones which is fair each faction would build them almost identically but the layout would not always be the same, The HQ is force started in a contested zone, things like that. The game is great for what it is which is why it has a strong loyal fanbase, however that fanbase is small because it lacks what's needed to keep the majority of gamers invested.) Edit: Also this is NOT an indie title, EGOSOFT is Germany's top developer and had a budget big enough to self publish X4.

    I played the original, the extension and the follow up and lastly X3...all the while I never really found "the fun" in those games. And I sure tried for hundreds of hours but it never clicked in terms of fun. Yes, I did have huge AF factories, fleets and whatnots but still... Those games are as german as a game can get, I should know as I am one...clunky UI (at least the ones I played, but judging from that vid...nah-uh...still the same mess), overly complicated production chains, way waaaaaayyy too much micromanagement on a star-faring level, frankly quite stupid names for everything that can be named (Boron as an example is a chemical element, ffs how teutonic creative of Egosoft), ship and station designs are well - not at all my cup of tea and frankly never have been and so on... To me, those games always try/tried to implement something on the complexity level of Factorio (which is sufficiently complicated already even without aggro biters) and then adding a multiplier of about 1000 on it...and all that in the oh so vast space which in fact isn´t vast at all in any X game so far - vast, as in empty for the most parts and simply black...gosh, I hate those skittle ships and systems that look like a f-ing 80s disco when you accidentially ingested all the nice pills (and the ones mother gives you, but these don´t do anything at all) Plus: Xenons...no, those make the game considerably more tedious cuz they have been f-ing OP in the past and prolly still are if you intend to play this game "fleet admiral" style...sure sure, they are not a biggie if you choose to mil-ind-complex them to pieces but that simply is the same as some "goon swarm" in another game disguised as a spreadsheet...yuck! and lastly: mods ... simply, as the game(s) - way too much imho... Not that I don´t like mods...just checked my FS22 mod folder...a staggering 150Gb of vehicles - not even maps or something. If you want "space" and "pew-pew-a-plenty" then I would direct you to Star Sector...not 3d but good lord is it fun to shred inspecting and unsuspecting hegemony fleets :p and its also quite hard

    I have this game since launch. Tried to played it 3-4 times, never could get past the tutorial. I also tried Pathologic 1 when launched, i wanted to finish and understand more of it, but i was to young and imature to apreciate what it was doing. I found your video and you convinced me. I am now trying Pathologic 2 and, after so many years, i think it finnaly cliked. The strangeness of this game is beyond everything i have ever played. So many strange sounds, the world, the dialog. The use of lights to highlight important locations. It has a strange efect on me, to the point i dont mind bugs and even the somewhat "dead" world and charcaters. By dead i mean static, like in Morrowind. This is a game that makes you consider it alive in your mind, not in the technical visual common sense. The characters, even though are not voice acted, have to say more than tons and tons of characters from other games. The world, even though little and "bland", is more compact and it changes so much that eventually it feels interactive and alive. I dont know how they managed this. I think is one of the few games that really shows us what this medium can acommplish. Very nice review. To speak so much about a game that is so obtuse and strange and not spoil anything is a huge deal. Ty 🥂

  • @Carbon_Cola
    @Carbon_Cola5 күн бұрын

    Thank you so much for your comment!! I don't get so many views or so much feedback for my Pathologic 2 Review, but it was the hardest video for me to make so it means a lot to hear it had a positive effect!! Regarding the deadness of thr world, I wonder about that too. Are those technical limitations? Or is it an artistic element to further make me feel alone and isolated and to make the town feel more at the end of its life? Like I mentioned with many of the townspeople looking the same - this can also be interpreted as a technical limitation. But I think that it has a lot of artistic value because it depereonalizes everyone you interact with and makes the townspeople seem extra creepy, and makes the town overall feel much less safe. Completely agree with you that Pathologic 2 is a fantastic example for just how much the medium of videogames can accomplish. It's a masterfully created interactive piece of art.

    @@Carbon_Cola I listen to your review a bunch of times while cleaning the house and doing dishes, and have to say it is very good even without the visual. Like an audiobook 😊 I think we got used with the same ideas and mechanics in video games, that when we get into this type of game, even things like bugs, glitches and unpolished parts don't matter. They even get meshed somehow in the world. Bcs you don't need a visual and technical perfection when a game doesn't need it. It would have been cool for the world to be more alive, with npcs going on theyre business etc. But I think it wouldn't have the same impact. And the strangest thing is I can't explain why this kind of "downgrade" is actually a huge bonus in immersion. The use of "fog of war" is such an old concept, used back in the day to hide the limitation of the hardware, and in Pathologic 2 works like a charm. Years back I played The Void. A game as strange, even stranger than Pathologic and plagued with bugs. The thing is I was on my old pc, my video card was old and damaged, and at some point the game gliched hard, with strange visual artifacts and some colors meshed into eachother. I played for more than 2 hours without even thinking the game had a problem. The game was so strange, that my brain didn't register the actual visual bugs and glitches. I realised this when I got a crash and I rebooted the game. What game out there can do this ?! Pathologic also uses the fear of the unknown, like Subanutica and Outer Wilds. This fear is primordial, it is integral part of our subconscious minds, and the engine that drived humans to aquire knoledge. I think this is the greatest feat, in the immersion department, that a game can accomplish. Keep up the good work. You didn't received much feed back not bcs of you, is bcs of the game. Not many people got into it, not to mention the ones that have didn't get pass day 3. I have waited for 5 years until your review convinced me to open up to the game. This also proves that Pathologic 2 is a work of art. It ages like art. Cheers mate 🥂

    I wonder how the devs balance the economy. Clearly if you keep mining and producing eventually there will be oversupply of everything. So you need "sink" of stuff - probably war. But it needs to be balanced fairly well for it not to go too much in either direction. If the other factions cannot cheat (by getting free ships or other resources) it becomes doubly difficult to make it challenging against human players.

  • @Carbon_Cola
    @Carbon_Cola11 күн бұрын

    The bottleneck becomes the production and transport of goods. The raw material demand actually gets saturated relatively quickly. You need to then start producing all the intermediate goods to sell to the AI. Ultimately most goods will flow to spaceports. There's a limit to how many ships each faction is allowed to have (can be changed via mod) so unless they are loosing ships, that demand is also limited. But with mods to change these limits the consumption usually stays high. Plus you can do story missions to plunge the AI into war with each other to further stimulate demand.
