How do you not get mud. You must not play with it too much?
@davidwebbart8 ай бұрын
Hi Lauraine. Thanks for your question. It's always a danger with watercolour. It's surprisingly easy to achieve mud. The way I avoid it is by not overmixing the colours. Like you say in your comment, I try not to play with it too much. Quite often , in my paintings, you'll see the individual colours I have used in a wash. As you can see from the videos, I do mix quite a lot of the colour on the paper itself, so I can see what's happening. You have to know when to resist the temptation to go back in and add a little more. If a wash looks good, adding more won't help. You have to learn when to walk away.

@@davidwebbart You certainly achieved a good variety of art in one book. I love telling people about the best art books in my collection and have been working on a review of your book based on the edition I have. As your video was published just before mine was due to be, I will hold mine back until next week and will edit it to refer people to your video for the new cover and flip though and talk more about my thoughts on your book. It will then go into my Search Press book review playlist. As it seems just the cover is new I have not ordered the 2023 version from Search press, even though it was tempting.
@@FizzyStarArt I look forward to seeing your video. I haven't been through the new version line by line, but I think it's mostly the cover that's been updated. I especially like that the new US version has my painting of Dartmoor on the cover.
@@davidwebbart The description on Search Press does not say, revised or expanded and as far as I can tell from their flip through and yours, the content seems to be the same. It is lovely you have both new books.
@@davidwebbart My video is now available.
Hi David, I have got your book in french. It’s a very good book.
Hi Thierry. Good to hear. Thank you.
This is just awesome. So realistic 👏👏👏
Thanks Em 👍
Lovely colours, amazing how it can still look like a snow scene with all those colours
Thank you. 🙂
Beautiful! Love the wet into wet! Merry Christmas to you and your family 🕯👨🎨🎅
Thank you Ingo. And a Merry Christmas to you and your family too. 🎄
Excellent Dave 👍🙂🌲
Thanks Brian. 👍

Cheers Ian. 👍
Thanks for that - very well explained. Look forward to the next lesson. Cheers, Brian 👍🙂
Thanks Brian. 👍
Sound like Frank Webb😊🎨🖌️...
Hi Teody. Thanks. I don't think we're related. I have his book on comoposition though!🙂
I like your comment about over doing the detail and having to be disciplined about putting down the brush and walking away. That is so important and so hard to do as a beginner. Thank you. I love your style. 🇨🇦
Hi Anne. Thanks for your comment. It is one of the hardest stages of the painting. Joseph Zbukvic says it best... 'Every painting that's ruined is preceded by the words 'I'll just do this bit' '.
@@davidwebbart I will use Joseph’s quote. Oh gawd, how true. Sigh. 🇨🇦
