I have been a fan since "She's About a Mover" was first on the charts. I played him in the barracks while the other sailors were jamming to Pink Floyd and Super Fly. Once in the early eighties I mentioned his name to my wife's ex, who was managing Mitch Ryder at the time, and he had a story of Doug seeing him on the street in New York and jaywalked to talk about some new project he had going. He remembered everyone he met.

I use to see Doug Sahm at Soap Creek Saloon and a little place off of The Drag , Guadalupe Street,The Holee in The Wall , and he was always in Oat Willie's bopping around, this was in the early and mid 1970s , he was a great musician and band leader, his record Last of The Real Texas Blues Bands with Denny Freeman and George Rains , is a tremendous record

Doug Sahm was a musical genius who had the ability to put his stamp on different genres of music. I first discovered his talent from listening to Uncle Tupelo's, "Give Back The Key To My Heart." Hopefully Hollywood will do a movie on his life because his musical talent needs to be recognized.

I lived in Austin Texas from 1974 until 1981 or 1982 , I moved back to my hometown of Kansas City then moved back to Austin in 1985 and stayed for another few years , Austin Texas in the 1970s was a wonderful place, 200,000 people and 50,000 were students that went home in the summer, music 🎵 was everywhere, Rome Inn, Armadillo World Headquarters, Soap Creek, etc , great Tex Mex at Casita Jorge's, BBQ at The Pit , Jim's , who remembers Jim Tugboat Smith, he had the best weed and cooked everywhere, You could run into Doug at Oat Willie's, just a great town, South Congress is still alive but Austin is kind of a mess with the traffic and young spoiled white kids, everyone needs to let people do what they want as long as they don't hurt anyone
