Fincher's version is slick and polished, the original gritty and authentic. Rooney Mara did her best, but was no match for Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth, and I thought Daniel Craig just dialled in his performance.

The original version with Noomi Repace was far better in not only acting but performance. The thing that you like about the Fincher version is exactly the main thing about what was wrong with it. The film works best as it was intended, as Swedish Noir. I have a lot of experience with Swedish Noir. It is dark, not bright. It is dirty not a slick film. Noomi is far better in her performance than Rooney Mara. The Fincher version was so bad that they didn't do the sequels The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest and the Girl Who Played With Fire. However all three of the Swedish films were made ans I saw all three

Daniel Craig was wrong for this role. The Swedish characters are all so believable, Lisbeth most importantly so. No doubt Finchers is better directed and composed, but the Swedish film is better, more real.

The issue with this whole compression is that you’re basically comparing American cinematography and Swedish cinematography, not the movies themselves. American moves really love bombastic, eye popping shots, while many Swedish movies take it slowly and let the mood and atmosphere do the talking.

Finchers version is an insult to the characters as they were created in the books. There is so much information forming the characters in the books. My opinion

You like to state your sad little opinions as facts don’t you. It’s clear that being informed about the truth regarding the nasty little trite American rip off you like, has hurt your feelings so much that you need to repeatedly state nonsense to justify your low brow desires. A thousand times! Lol!!!(Who told you that?) A fact that only Swedish people prefer the original! Lol! (Seriously? And where is this fact written down outside of your tiny mind?) When someone lowers themselves so much that invented hyperbole is their only argument, it’s a bit sad, and also pleading to a non existent majority is yet another logical fallacy. You’re not in the majority, one movie was successful around the world, and the other failed even in America. It’s not the superbowl, America can’t call itself the world champions for playing a game nobody else cares about. In this case the game is stealing something good and spoiling it. Everything you’re saying is, at the end of the day, just… your… personal… opinion… about a Hollywood knock off… You have no class or taste, climb out of your sad little bubble and get yourself an education instead of choosing the lowest hanging fruit to enjoy.

Take the original version any day of the week. More raw,, more nerve and far far more convincing. I think the original Swedish version is grade A movie and the US (wannabe) a grade c (b movie) in my opinion. Just haven't got the touch and feeling as a masterpiece like the Swedish have

Outrageous to even compare the american and the swedish one. The swedish version was real, it was tense and doesn’t let go of you. One of the best trilogies produced, of all time.

I saw both versions and I alway thought that the Fincher version was better aesthetically speaking. But since it was a remake, it felt almost slanderous to say so. So I’m really glad I’m not alone in this case. I wish the cast and crew behind the remake would continue with the original trilogy sequels.

Producers are sleeping on this developing this culturally significant character. The books are outstanding. We need more cerebral icons, and theres a lot of us in the audience thats always looking for grown-up thrillers and protagonists.

I think both versions are interesting and worth watching. The Swedish version is various episodes long; thus, it has pros and cons. As a viewer, I wanted more length to extend the watching and the excitement. After many years, I recently (February 2024) watched like 6 episodes of the Swedish version and I loved it. The English version is fine, too, especially if you wish to cram the entire storyline within 2 hours.

Blomkvist Swedish isn't sleeping and bored, he's confused and tired by the sheer complexity of his investigation. That is only evident by reading the books.

Swedish all the way. I don't speak the language but it sounds beautiful and the suspense is amazing. When you read the biography of the authors life the Swedish version just fits socially.

The european version is 100% better than the American.. Its as if the director toned down the movie not to offend Americans. From the brutal bed scene (where we had no idea she had a camera) all the way thru to the basement scene these movies don't compare. The euro version showed his death pictures, Fincher wouldn't touch that w a 10' pole ! Plus when Martin Vanger crashed its very important the Lisbeth got to see him and NOT help plays well into the story. Why did Fincher change that? The best scene in the whole 3 part trilogy is when Mikael presents Harriet to Henrik. Again a mystery to the viewers! "How's your health.... might you have a heart attack..."Laughing Henrik says.... "I'm on so many needs thats not possible"...Then you can see swing of emotions....the raw essence of 35 lost years..... him recognizing Harriet. WELL IF HE COULD HAVE HAD A HEART ATTCK THAT WOULD HAVE DONE IT.

This was just a perfect example of a European Director making a movie for their audience and an American Director making an Americanized version for their audience. As someone who was born in the United States of America but now lives full-time in Europe I can tell you that a lot of Swedish people would probably not have liked the American version. These are groups of people with different artistic sensibilities. I don’t necessarily think one of these movies is better than the other . One was tailored to their audience. I personally like the original but I also left the United States and live in Europe full-time so that says a lot about my personal taste and sensibilities.

I have seen both, they both have a different flavor. The American version is ok, but I find the Swedish version vivid, it allows the viewer to smell, taste the scene. Allows the viewer to calculate the information. If, you are looking at smash and grab then go to the American version, if your look for a movie that grip you by the throat, allowing you to hear your heart beating in your ears go with the Swedish version with English captions. Yes, I am American, and not every remake is better than the original. I think most of all you should NEVER talk down one version against another. That just shows you have no class.

Apart from the star actors I think the screenplay and dialogue were much better than the Swedish version, the exchange of dialogue between characters in fincher film have a subtle dramatisation but yet it was convincing done by the actors. The Swedish version was more realistic what people would do normally which is a bit “boring” but that’s the realistic way. Also the seating of mood, cinematography especially colour palette used in the Fincher movie, sets a tone for the interest. Also when did you ever get to see James Bond play an investigative journalist compared to a lethal spy? That was also one of the success of the film. The female lead for the film was also interesting and intriguing to watch.

But they aren't finished works - only the first part is. Execution of the entire vision matters. Fincher's version gets an incomplete mostly due to egos and money. Also, the flowers scene in the Swedish version is superior since there isn't a rather cheap false anticipation - the feeling of "I see this wall - what am I really looking at?" is more in line with the feelings of someone that is present in the scene. Fincher's intro of Lisbon is better. Sleep and bored seems subjective - on the train, maybe tired and stressed, but not overacting the "I'm thinking now" look? I will concede the rest. It's weird that so much happened in my life between those two movies, so they nearly felt like they were years apart.

i loved the american version with fincher directing- beautifully made and rooney mara was much closer to how the character was described in the book, anti- social angry, hanging her head down,.....with so many more expressions, and the wardrobe was so much better too! the swedish version salander was dressed like it was the 80's punk scene- the wardrobe budget mustve been very small in the swede version.

Yeah ... I love Fincher, but it's not. From the actors to the overall feel of the movies the swedish original cannot be beat. The american version can't caption it's authenticity, which is so crucial for the whole series. It may has better professional realisation, but the feeling is just not right. It is in it's essence still american and not scandinavian.

Fincher COPIED many scenes that the original Swedish version created. Anyone can take a good product and, given enough money, improve it. It is creating those scenes that is the art. Also, nobody could improve on Noomi as Lisbeth or Michael Nyevist as Blomkvist. So real, so believable, so Swedish. Stieg Larsson, I believe, would have preferred the Swedish version.

What bollocks. The first Swedish version was miles better. I’ve watched both a few times and the English speaking version was just made for lazy people who can’t be bothered to read sub-titles, I found it quite boring. The first Swedish version was wonderfully dark and gritty. Trying to polish something that is already great doesn’t always make things better.
