    If you paint your red areas with titanium white first, your reds will be much stronger with less coats. Good vid.

  • @TawessBitsbox
    @TawessBitsbox6 күн бұрын

    That is very true if one want a very bright and light red, But i have also found that both cream white colors and even browns and oranges can have very interesting effects on the red. Now that is even more apparent when using a airbrush. But yes, for bright colors you can never go wrong with a bright white.

  • @TawessBitsbox

    Desert yellow from the armypainter fanatic range. You can get a very similar result by mixing leather brown and daemonic yellow from the warpaints range in a 50/50 mix

    With the Kickstarter Battletech: Mercenaries arriving soon, Im sure even more people will be searching out for paint scheme tips. :) I ended up choosing to go with Army Painter’s Speedpaint 2.0 Beowolf Blue, Citadel’s Basilicanum Grey and Bad Moon Yellow contrasts. But needed to use the Seraphim Sepia shade in the recesses of the Bad Moon Yellow areas for more depth.

    So far I have been exclusively using Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 and metallics, and I managed to get hold of some of the fanatics paints. The performance of all of them and the ease of painting has me sold. Saving for the bigger fanatic set and I’ve ordered the fanatics metallic set and washes set. I’ve personally found them easily as good as Pro Acrylics and GW (if not vastly superior in some colours)!

  • @TawessBitsbox

    Yeah i really wanted the full set... but... it was pricey. So i had to go for the 50 paint set. I have a video coming up about the new yellow. It is really great.

    Did you prime before painting?

  • @TawessBitsbox
    @TawessBitsbox4 ай бұрын

    Yes sort of, that one was primed with wraithbone from Citadel paints. So no actual undercoat primer as such but i have found that most of GW base paints and spray cans do the job just fine as long as you give the model a little bath first. Unless yu paint metal models... They always need to have a good undercoat primer.

  • @TawessBitsbox
    @TawessBitsbox10 ай бұрын

    To be fair at the time i liked the slightly painterly finish it had. Another layer of wash would have required another pass of touch ups. I have some oil based panel liner now that would probably used to good effect. But at the time i only had nuln oil and dark tone. Both good for slathering but not detail work.

  • @TawessBitsbox

    Both spaceship exterior and gorgon hide can be used, i think i used spaceship exterior in this case as it is a bit whiter. Then just a regular wash over that with your wash of choice.

    Nice :) got a little question. Some of the printing looks a bit rough some very smooth. Do you remember with what layer height you were printing? Or were you doing some filling ? Still got an stl here for a big guy and now After watching it, i Got to print it :)

  • @TawessBitsbox
    @TawessBitsbox Жыл бұрын

    Good question... according to my slicing software it was 0.18 mm layer height and a fill density around 15%. But it varied a bit depending on the part. Now where i messed up on some parts was orientation and some minor failures. It was does on a stock Flashforge Finder so not much in the way customization.

  • @hbk2457
    @hbk2457 Жыл бұрын

    Allrighty :) i have meant the filling between the layers for smothing the surface. With my last paint job an Nuln oil it highlighted the layers even more :( on other prints i was using some lacquer and was sanding. Looking forward to your reply and in the meantine i will enjoy your other Videos:)

  • @TawessBitsbox
    @TawessBitsbox Жыл бұрын

    None really. just primed it and and then hit it with a airbrush. Trust me it looks way rougher up close. Generally speaking if you are going to do a shade or an ink you need to give it a solid coat of automotive filler and then a good sanding. Even then something like Nuln oil might just expose the layer lines, because that is sort of what it is made for. =) Instead try to give it a dark base and then paint up the mid tones and highlights, also avoid dry brushing. Best of luck.

    Camo Cloak from Army painter. It is the original Nuln oil and not the new formula and same goes for the speedpaint.

    Constructive criticism: focus closer to the thing you are painting. That one single wide shotales seeing nthe paint work you are doing VERY difficult to see on camera. The view needs to at least be twice as close.

  • @TawessBitsbox
    @TawessBitsbox Жыл бұрын

    Trust me... It is a ongoing fight. I have lost about 3-4 videos due to my camera deciding to flip focus back and forth due to being either to close or when zoomed in i instead get to much noise. The current setup sucks but it at least let me make videos and since this is very much a hobby project... It is what it is. Your feedback is appreciated though.

    Why didn't you just Layer over each Layer/ color and remove it all at once? Seems towork well for purposes, but also seems to be easier to remove miltiple-layers of the mask all together. Just Sayin' (Great Video BTW!), does theliquid -mask gum-up and get messy on your brushes and Miniatures? again: Jut asking! TY Man for another cool video!

  • @TawessBitsbox
    @TawessBitsbox Жыл бұрын

    Good question. In this case i wss unsure on how hard it would be to remove the masking liquid. So i decided to play it safe. =) But yes your suggestion is most likely the most efficient solution. I will make sure to mention it next time i mask. As for gumming up your brush, yes and no. i does leave some slight residue at the base of the brush so i would not recommend using any fancy brushes for it. But it was not very hard to get it out of the bristles. A good rinse every now and then kept the brush clean. But if it has time to dry out... Yeah i am sure the brush will be done for.

    Is it necessary to use army painting ?

  • @TawessBitsbox
    @TawessBitsbox Жыл бұрын

    No i am even myself slowly moving away from recommending specific colors. If you have a favorite brand or just happen to have different paints around. Use those. When it comes to miniature paints they are all more or less equal. You can even use craft and hobby paints. If you are a adventures person you can even use those humbrol paints that comes in small metallic containers. But then you need some form of spirits to clean the brush.

  • @Guyver-kh7kq
    @Guyver-kh7kq Жыл бұрын

    OK I was using craft smart paint it was kinda water when I paint the miniature

  • @TawessBitsbox
    @TawessBitsbox Жыл бұрын

    Yeah cheaper craft acrylics tend to be a bit stingy with the pigments. Making it harder to get a good coverage. But i have seen people do some really good stuff with them and.. well.. a bucket of patience. But if you have a bit of cash laying around and can get ahold of them i´d say Vallejo offers the best bang for your bucks. Miniature paints are fairly expensive ounce by ounce but they are also designed to be easy to use and cover fairly well.. except the yellows... Nobody can figure yellows out.
