I'm an allotment and home gardener in the North West of England. I enjoy growing seasonal fruit and vegetables. I particularly like the challenge of growing food of my Bangladeshi heritage. Check out my channel for ideas and inspiration on how to grow your own local and South Asian fruit and vegetables.

Fun fact this is lime, thats why it can burn, its really rich in nutrients though particularly if you burn hardwoods like oak.
Put that into the ground for a dirty garden. 😅 you have to separate the solids. Y straining and let the water evaporate to make pot-ash or potasium
Missing a step must strain in water and let the water evaporate
i have gall mite has any body got any ideas as i am at a blank ta
Good tips I use wood chip all the time but tend not to dig in if growing in the immediate area as increases nitrogen levels but on the top seems fine 👍
Seeing Ali’s Allotments pop up in my recommended videos after all these years is very refreshing! Good to know you’re keeping it going sir! All the best
Awesome, thank you!
This is what I have been searching for, for ages! Your instructions were well presented and the quality of filming was excellent. I’ve grown fuchsia’s for years, but never quite knew how to prune them. I garden in zone 9 in California. Again, thank you.
Glad it was helpful. Best wishes!
Hi Ali, My name is Alice from the blog team at Thompson & Morgan. We’re in the process of revamping our chillies and sweet peppers masterclass, and we’d love to highlight one of your fantastic KZread videos in our guide. I've just sent you a DM to chat more about this feature, so if you wouldn't mind checking your messages - that'll be great! All the best, Alice
@ardempsey3946, please email [email protected] thanks
😊
Beautiful! Nice idea with the rocks in place of using mulch.
Thank you very much!
Great video 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it.
The sound of England.
Hands down my favourite beans pintos to our American cousins. Allegedly they don't have the traditional effect of other beans on the digestive system 🤣Love me some refried beans😋
Sounds great!
The beauty of early winter, thumbs up to you👍👍👍
Many thanks
I grew these this year purely for the coloured pods but next year I’ll be increasing the number of plants as I love a cassoulet
Good luck with that.
I love the idea of drying them, as opposed to freezing them, they keep forever, and you dont have to worry about losing them in you power was to go out for a few days. will have to try growing some myself now.
Totally agree!
My Mool's taste bitter.. I planted end of September, picked some which are 4-5inch...
Hope the rest are better.
Great stuff Ali, thank you. You reminded me that I have been lazy! I'm getting huge crops of Tumbling Tom tomatoes this year though.
Good stuff - you've done really well with your tomatoes 🍅. We have been trying to grow more veg for autumn and winter harvesting.
Masha Allah.
Thanks
Wow so beautiful planting 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
So nice of you
nope
Wow those peppers look great . I have always wondered if it’s possible to cross pollinate these with naga . Then could get massive naga
Try it, see if it works.
Cool
Thanks
Grew the asiabln goya type this year, but they all had stunted growing.
Good luck next time.
@@AlisAllotment found a slightly bigger one a few days ago, about 10cm long. There is a poly tunnel at another allotment site and the owners, sn asian family, are growing them full size.
They look delicious, thank you for making this video!!
My pleasure, thanks.
Sad to see ,this years weather has been real bad for all sadly
Hoping for an Indian summer!
All that effort. Bummer. Mind you, even in the wet weather I've had down in Derbyshire, I'm still having to water my Tumbling Toms every other blo*dy day. Mind you, they are in baskets and act like umbrellas. Hope you can salvage much of your crop though.
Yeah, got lots of green tomatoes. Put it in a box with some bananas. It sounds like you've done well with your tomatoes.
So far. Heck, they could all go pear-shaped if I don't get more sun. @@AlisAllotment
Is it?
Looking like it is (so far).
Very nice brother, Masha allah all your plants are doing well . And wow the apple tree.. make lovely chutney . Mine looks like having years of .
Jazakallah - all this recent rain has helped!
Masha Allah beautiful sharing.plants looks very healthy.
Thank you
I want to buy
Found online or in garden centres. Good luck.
We have some of these purple queen dwarf plants first time growing them and i am super impressed. Our plants are not even a foot high and they are covered in beans about 50 per plant. I cant believe how productive they are. I'm right in pressuming they are not come back again plants are they , they need to be succession planted and replanted each year?
Great news about your bountiful crop. We succession sow these annually.
Great!
Thanks!
I didn't grow any this year but you've a great crop there 👍🏻
So nice of you to say.
Good music🌸
Does it need to be on heat mat when keep inside UK home
No - it should be fine, once germinated.
Come on Ali😎
lovely video, glad you are still at it.
Thanks Suzy.
Hopefully we get a good season this year . I got hyacinth beans and runner beans growing
Yes, insha allah - we get a good one. The weather up here in the north west of England is very favourable for beans, at the moment.
Great sharing! 😍👍
Thanks sis!
Salam brother. Where in the north west are you.
Walaikum salam. Near Manchester!
You’ve answered my question, there are both climbing and bush varieties. Just watched 3 different borlotti videos and no one mentions this. Thank you! 🌱🌱🌱😎
Nice one - good luck with growing borlotti beans.
I love bitten gourd, or ‘bitter melon’ as I know it from West Indian hot pickle recipes, and with your inspiration I’ll have a go at growing some myself next year. Was it done by using seed from shop bought fruit, when did you sow the seed / plant out / what sort of compost etc. Thank you 😊👍
Sow about end April/early May time. It was from shop bought fruit - saved seeds from really ripe fruit. Use multipurpose compost if planing in a pot. Best of luck!
Are these like red kidney beans that have to be boiled vigorously for 10 minutes and then simmered?
Dried borlotti beans must be soaked then cooked.
❤
Hi Ali nice to have your first harvest rhubarb nice crumble, great to see rays plot again.
Yeah - rhubarb harvest really does kick off the new season. Regards and best wishes.
Wow Ali that is a fantastic garden centre. I’ve soon nothing that impressive anywhere in Scotland. Could it be the squirrels eating your tulips. I lost loads of mine to squirrels last year. I grew them in pots so covering with wire resolved things. Hope your temps get up a bit to stop the overnight freeze. We are 15 degree c here but it’s fairly windy. Goes to 3 or 4 at night. Happy gardening. Mags
Let's hope for another great growing season. Still a bit cold here in the northwest of England.
Beautiful flowers. ❤
Thanks for visiting
❤
Good stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it.
