  Dear Stephan, this is Oleg Sinegubkin writing. This clock was made in St.Petesburg in the workshop of John Forman in the early 1820-s. Most ptobably John and his son William, who were clockmakers and, mostly, clock dealers had some kind of agreement to make such clocks with Wibral, but there are no proof about that. They continued to make such clocks during late 1820-s and into 1830-s, when William Forman began to use his name on the dial. It was also found that finish and swedish journeymen, like C.F.Blomquist, probably were involved in making such clocks during their work for Formans in St.Petersburg. Another interesting fact is that some clocks are signed Wibral and some Wiebral. Anyway, thank you for you excellent videos and story! Best regards, Oleg

  Dear Oleg, thank you for the information. We knew part of this already but did not know the names and as you say, there is no proof of this. It would be great to verify it in some way as it sounds like a very interesting story. It would proof that there was a network of craftsman all over Europe exchanging knowledge and cooperating. Using Wibral's name must have also been a sign of quality, I think, or they wouldn't have used it.

  Your correct. It's a crank. The weights are very heavy and the position not ideal and in order to not damage the enamel, i supported the crank with my thumb.

  Absolutely beautiful! I especially love the one on the left as it has a very small subtle pendulum movement. I have also heard that the one-weight clocks are sometimes called "schlafzimmeruhr"

  There will be a video about that clock next week. I'm not familiar with the term "Schlafzimmeruhr" in a historical context but it would make more sense for clocks with a striking movement and a repetition that could be pulled by a cord while lying in bed and when it was still dark, so you could check the time.

  @@iLexor i cant wait to see the vid about that clock. yes repetition striking would make sense. however as i understood the one-weight clocks are called schlafzimmer urh because many people did/do not like a striking clock in their bedroom. in the old days people used nightlights so telling the time at night wouldnt be that much of a big ordeal.

  @lick_of_ze_Gestapo The main function of the repetition was telling of the time at night but you could of course always strike a match and light a candle. If you did not want the clock to strike at night then almost all Viennese clocks had a strike silent lever which still allowed the repetition to work.

  Hello I'm looking for a "grand father" clock, you know with the relaxing sound of the pendulum swinging and the slow "tic-tac" but I'm on a budget and can't have a giant one in my living room (like a horloge comtoise who are really enormous and large like an American fridge!) I see on your website several pieces but I've no idea where to start looking, having beside the cuckoo no knowledge at all of German/Austrian wall clock, it seems very complex at first glance Hallo, ich suche eine "Großvater"-Uhr, Sie wissen, mit dem entspannenden Klang des Pendelschwingens und dem langsamen "Tic-Tac", aber ich habe ein begrenztes Budget und kann keine riesige in meinem Wohnzimmer haben (wie eine Horloge Comtoise, die wirklich riesig und groß wie ein amerikanischer Kühlschrank ist!)
