The Endless Winter II - Surfing Europe
Europe is, and always has been a traveling surfers dream. Diverse coastlines, curious cultures and perfect waves awaited those who first explored the continent for surf and adventure in the 1960s.
50 years later, we join a new generation of European surfers as they trace the steps of the pioneering few who first tackled Europe’s waves and sculpted it’s extraordinary surf scene.
Follow in their footsteps here…

As with the first Endless Winter adventure, Ford Motor Company are providing us with vehicles and are supporting us on our journey. The team will be driving a New Ford Ranger Wildtrak across sand dunes, over rocky cliffs and along icy roads of Europe.

Great to see Arlene Maltman from Jersey in the line up
La belle époque à la roots... Aujourd'hui c'est la Chine les "pros" arrivent en Audi ou AMG. La surf mode fait fureur au rock food...
wow how awesome
👍🏽
Didn't know they had wave shredders in Scottland. Thanks for the update
Great wee series: are they’re more episodes to come? Thanks 😁
Caithness is Britain’s surf Mecca 🥰🥰🥰
Why no mention of Carwyn?
It's a shame females are not represented
3:46 This is me at the start of every wave

Yes, it is a very special place
It started earlier then that in the south more in agadir - anchor point - is the first spot australians and americans surf in the early 60, s
Loved this! Great documentary!
Wow, such a good looking wave. Similar to the Wedge in Durban,
Amazing! 🤙🏼
As one of the surfers who saved the fishermen that morning and indeed changed the opinion of the community toward surfers I can tell you it was a group of guys from Cronulla, a suburb of Sydney and Melbourne,Australia. It was in late 1977 and mainly French and English surfers had given locals a bad impression before that. It was a perfect 6ft day and the rising overnight swell and lower tide had caught the Irishmen by surprise. It was crack of dawn and I was heading out when someone told me to hurry as the boat had capsized. I saw they were 100mtrs away and by luck I paddled onto the only wave I would get that day to get me to were another Aussie surfer from Melbourne was struggling to hold 2 fully clothed men who could not swim afloat. We held them safely till another fishing boat arrived to take them to hospital. We then spent the rest of the morning bailing the boat, collecting their fishing gear and refloating the boat when the tide came in, all while watching other surfers catch perfect Mundane waves. The local community loved us for not only saving their lives but also their livelihood. The Mayor treated us to a fancy meal in the swish restaurant at the port and we got well looked after in every wine bar we entered. The guy that saved them until I helped him stayed the winter, as we went to Morocco, rent free with fresh fish, bread, milk and vegetables left at his doorstep every week. Mundaka will always hold a special place in my heart and I am proud of the actions of Aussie surfers. I always wandered if what we did that day changed the town to accept surfers and now I know. Thank you.
This is such a nice story. I´m basque (and a surfer) myself and I know that we often seem coldhearted at first but once we truly get to know a person and his story and we like them we can be one of the warmest, most caring and loving people, but in our own special way. I think I can speak for all the basque people when I say that people like you are always welcomed in the basque country and I´m absolutely sure the people of Mundaka would welcome you the same way again! Thanks a lot for sharing your story!
That story is divine.
I’m a surfer and I’ve always wanted to surf at mundaka
Thanks
That’s legendary dude
epiiiiic.. dropping in!

Cool
Epic!
Quality. That's a serious left well surfed, and a shout out to those unique pioneers. Bit like AWB!
Legit
Great film - well done on chasing down those legends. In a way I'm glad that crew scored it and loved it - as tad says below, it would be criminal to see million kooks clamouring all over her beautiful curves nowadays. Dora was right. SIC.
looks more challenging than any wave pool - and is zero Carbon! Awhhooo!
Well done! I first surfed the whole Portuguese coast in 1981. Could count on 2 hands the local surfers I met or even saw. I chose not to stay, but I probably should have... Anyway, now in a remote area in NZ, and surfing alone is routine. (by the way - loved John's Archival shots. Treasure those.)
whilst others jabber over endless aerials and "pro' battles, I'm very content to view your excellent reportage. More please. Gotta go weed my veggies...
A surfer girl. Cool.
i love the wave ,never been but its a amazing wave.need a heated wetsuit
fair play, legends - great wee vid. And that LEFT!!! Warm greetings from New Zealand! (I'll never whinge in winter agin)
Why are u blowin out ur wave! We will come.
See MY CHANNEL for Australia's version of thurso. Murrays reef, off the famous trapdoors, Sawtell main beach, Sawtell NSW 2452. Bit like this movie, lots of ametuers surfing, but there's some big turns, and the occasional sick pit. The wave a bit more shifty then old thurso, and changes its characteristics a bit more, but it can definately line up some good ones from time to time on the right swell.
They're not farmers, definitely not. Just a phase they're going through...
Such an amazing wave! Bummer the crowds have pretty much ruined most of the best waves in the world ='(
That's a big crowd of surfers
Wow !...Having talked to Bruce Brown in person ...I feel that same vibe here in this movie...at least the trailer so far
Hilarious to see the munich eisbach wave instead of sylt to represent de.schland …you might like to see www.fb.com/longboard.book
did you guys go to nazare?
Hi Jez. Sorry for the slow reply. Yes we spent a lot of time in Nazare - meeting the locals and understanding how the monster waves have shaped the local culture over hundreds of years... we've also got a epic session : ) The film is on Vimeo and Amazon Prime. Hope you like it. Cheers.

Arrawarra is a much better wave and more consistent. Warm but not too warm. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nGd2urJ_Y8qXZMY.html
Shane F your missing the point it’s hard core big heavy barrels in freezing cold waters not a lot of people can handle thay
