In the 1970s, I bought a book titled (I think) Bicycle Ergonomics. As I recall, it was the author's his Ph.D. dissertation. According to his research and testing, the ideal seat height is 1.09 times the length of your inseam.

The saddle setback is also important and will affect the pressure on the bars. Your hands should float on the tops of the bars when pedaling moderately hard. If not, slide the seat back to get more of the weight back and counterbalance the torso. Once you have moved the seat back or forwards, you'll have to readjust the saddle height. If you cannot move the saddle back or forwards enough, you may need a seat post with a different setback.

The canyon strive is the best enduro bike cause you can ride it anywhere because it has a shape shifter which allows you to change the rear shock between 130/160mm of travel which makes it the ultimate mountain bike.❤

So long time rider here but an unhappy one. I had my seat set by a professional when I bought my bike and a couple of friends have checked it and support his work. But when I am riding it feels like my knees rise above the plane of my hip which is a real problem if I meet a hill. Any suggestions on how to determine what is happening? I do ride with cleats by the way and the person that fit me up for the bike was aware of this. But if I adjust my saddle to fit my comfort zone, I can no longer reach the ground with my foot from the saddle.
@ewganhoff10 күн бұрын
You are not supposed to reach the ground from the saddle. This video explains that your knee should be straight with your heel on the pedal at the bottom of the rotation. This means that when you use the balls of your feet your knee will have a small bend. Think about it, if your legs should be getting very nearly straight while pedaling, there is no way you are going to reach the ground when sitting in the saddle? You slide forward off the saddle to put your feet on the ground

We didn't bother with any of that book stuff, you sit on your bike with your heel on the pedal. leg should be straight. with ball of the foot over the pedal spindle it should be correct.. Obviously this, including expensive bike fits are just a starting point, and slight tweaks may be needed after a few rides.

Seat Height, yeah that's absolutely key! Days after getting my new bike, I would tweak the height by 1 mm up or down. You learn more once you go on a ride if it's perfect or not. Too many kids have it way too low, knees coming up to their ribs. Parents either don't know, or don't care.

Measuring to the center of the spindle may not the best way to adjust saddle height because of different crank arm lengths.
