    Why did Mr. Banks tell Bert that Mary Poppins tricked him into taking the kids to the bank and that it was how all the dangerous bad guy villain trouble started?

    No matter how many times I watch this movie…when it comes to this scene: It drives me nuts that “the medicine go down” doesn’t follow the “A spoonful of medicine helps”. Drove me crazy as a kid and STILL does now in 2024

    When I was a child watching this, the dialogue here was over my head and I thought it was borning and I preferred the more entertaining scenes. The firt time I watched this with my kids, I bawled so much throught his scene as it really hits and sinks in how brilliant this exchange is. Brilliant and perfectly performed by both actors. 'And all too sonn, they've up and grown... and then they've grown...'. Tears every time.

    Such a lovely scene,this is,Bert talking sense into mr.Banks,making him realise he needs to spend more time with the kids,and always be there for them. Bert would make an excellent father. He,and Mary Poppins are both contributing to mending their relationships here. Mr.Banks telling some Mary Poppins jokes once at the bank shows how much he has learnt something from her and Bert alright

    This song rings true. If you invest a certain amount over long period, your money will work for you and generate more per year than you put it. Then you can invest in other types of endeavours, or have enough money to feed the birds for life.

  • @Maskphan1
    @Maskphan12 ай бұрын

    It is very interesting how this song contrasts from “Feed the Birds” in a historical context. Mary Poppins is indirectly singing, “Help those who need it and you will be glad if you do.” This piece is singing, “Help fund our colonialism and you’ll be a part of the Empire!”

    When I was a kid, I always thought the father was a bad dude. Now I realize that he's trying his best, makes sure his kids have the things they need and want. He just didn't know how to express his love towards them.

    I'm amazed at all the comments saying how this was their least favourite song as a kid, but is now their favourite as an adult. I thought I was the only one who felt this. As a kid watching Mary Poppins you just want to see singing and dancing and magic and this song has no meaning to a child and is boring. But getting older, this song really does have meaning and hits very hard.

    Here I am 60 years after this magical film was released! Cinema is somewhat lacking in it these days! I’ve revisited Mary Poppins four times in the last almost three years since the lockdowns ended. I’ve grown to appreciate it more than I should have as a kid!

    Verwend tot op het bot, maar ik begin met frisse moed, de drank die ik heb meegenomen is erger dan de knoet.) Zwavel triakel waar kindjes van gruwen In deze fles wacht de straf Zie ik ze vechten of schreeuwen of duwen Dan ruk ik de kurk eral af Ik dult geen strapatsen En geen male fratsen Het is altijd te laat voor berouw Dus niet van dat slappe Mond open en happen Zwavel triakel voor jouw (Open. Smaakt het net zo vies als het stinkt? Viezer. Moet het echt? Open!) Zwavel triakel een keiharde lakel En nimmer een vriendelijk woord Voor stroop en met suiker verzet men geen wakels, dan etter de zon ermee voort Beriste luidruchtig en duchtig zu duchtig Ik ben een rechtvaardige vrouw Dus had je soms kuren Het zal je bezuren Zwavel triakel voor jouw (Uw zoon gaat onmiddelijk naar kostschool, en wat dat meiske betreft laat dat maar aan mij over!) Een kind mag niet rijden of drensen of drammen En zeker niet zeuren of janken of jammeren (Maar als ik) Spreek mij niet tegen Ik lust jullie allebei rauw En als nanny boos is, de beladosis Zwavel triakel voor jouw (En nu wil ik mijn kamer zien Ja, natuurlijk) Zwavel triakel voor jouw

    Watch Saving Mr Banks. It will give you a new appreciation for this great film and its beautiful lesson. Mary Poppins truly was and still is one of the last gems in Walt Disney's crown of successes.

    I was almost 21 when it came out. Saving Mr Banks I mean. And yet it took me a while to finally sit down and watch it. I was initially cynical of watching behind the scenes how this magical movie came together and the real life tragedies that put MP into what and who she is today as a book and film heroine.

    I would love to understand where songs 13, 14, and 16 came from. I have an order for a copy of this CD coming in shortly and it only has 12 tracks. I have checked numerous copies on E-Bay and they all have the same 12 tracks. Ms. Kelly has done some marvelous things, but I cannot find enough recordings of her. I have been trying to backfill my CD collection.

    just saw that movie again as an adult and really read the scene as a critique of capitalism and the greed it nurtures in people. how they made the bankers sing with pathos about their « growing sense of stature » and « tea » feels very satirical and like a hit against people who believe in the importance of the capitalist financial system. I love how the children look at the silly bankers with scepticism and disbelief, puzzled about these adults who value financial affluence more than empathy..
