I guess I review music equipment, mostly guitar pedals. I could do other stuff, too!

I don't like normal "youtubers." They make me cringe. I'm going to do my best to avoid doing all the normal youtubey stuff. I'm just going to be real, OK? Watching my videos should feel like you're hanging out with me and standing there, polite and silent, while I show you my new toys, oblivious to the fact that you might have better things to do, but you're way too polite to say anything. Sometimes you sneak out the back door and leave me there, talking to nobody. It's OK. Sometimes, it do be that way, though.

If you feel like it, you can leave me a small tip at ko-fi.com/grantwow All tips are greatly appreciated! If you tip, please send me a message so I can thank you personally.

    I was in Disk Replay with my son today and saw this hanging up. I didn't know much about it, but I suspected that is worked with midi, so I bought it for $40. They have a 48 hour return policy, so I figured I would either return it or be out $40 if it didn't work. I brought it home and tested it. All the strings are sensing correctly and all the fret buttons are working. The current version of Guitar Pro 8. allows Tab to be input, in step mode. Guitar Pro expects the MIDI to be all 6 channels, this way it assigns the notes to the correct string. It works great for that. What I just tried for my test, was use my Daw for sound, to verify the part I was playing, then play it into Guitar Pro. This worked great. Since it imports in step mode, you will have to fix the timing afterward. If you are inputting 1/8 notes and it is supposed to be 1/4 you could play two notes , as place holders and clean it up later. I loved your video, it motivated me to find uses for this.

    I found that after deleting/uninstalling those ACPI devices, they come right back on their own, and acpi.sys is still at the top of the list in LatencyMon. Is that supposed to happen?

    Found a work around! Simply replace the driver with any incorrect generic driver instead of Uninstalling and then disable. I used the "Docking Station" driver. Newly assigned drivers stayed after restart! Steps Below. Side click device Update driver Browse my computer for drivers Let me pick from a list... Uncheck "Show compatible hardware" (standard system devices) Docking Station Next Yes Close side click device disable If you'd like to revert to the original driver... Side click renamed driver (in my case Docking Station), Update driver, Search automatically for drivers. On my machine I had "intel dynamic tuning technology" equivalent to the thermal one. Disabling that worked.

    Totally get your points in the downsides to this multi FX unit, the amp taking 2 slots is valid and is a drawback and scrolling screens to get from drives to delay section also can be annoying. Luckily I don’t use any of the built in amps or cabs so I don’t really face this problem fortunately. Not having an effects loop is a downside especially as you said wanting to put other pedals thru it in your chain and then using the headphone output, only way I could see doing that is taking your last output in the chain into a sub mixer with a headphone out built-in but obviously it means having to possibly buy a mixer if you do t already have one. I know it’s five yrs later so you can pick up a small 4 channel mixer nowadays suitable as a sub mixer New for about £25. I still use my G5N live with my band and manage to utilise it for my requirements with to much hassle. I got a used one in the UK for £80 in great condition, so for the variety of FX and other features it has for myself was a good deal compared with my past route of buying individual pedals which soon adds up and then having the issues of pedal noise and interference from leads and psu’s ended doing my head in and constantly wanting to always buy a new pedal was a costly option for me, so getting a half decent cheap multi fx unit has worked better for my set up. Obviously there’s much better superior gear available so it’s all down to each players setup, way of working and what they can afford or main factors to consider before buying a multi fx unit. Cheers and nice one for your video and explaining the cons for yourself for the way you utilise it. Just nice to see how other people use their gear when it’s different to how I use in my rig. Thanks Steve.

    Thanks for your video. I have a newbie question about cables, please help me understand. (1) Guitar to G1: TS to TS Cable. (2) G1 to Amp TRS to TRS cable? Is this how it works? I just bought my first electric guitar today.

  • @GRANTwow
    @GRANTwow7 ай бұрын

    You might think so, since the pedal has a TRS output, but nope, a regular TS (aka instrument cable or guitar cable) will go from the pedal to the amp. You'll only need a TRS cable if you're hooking up two amps in stereo, or plugging into a recording device and want to record stereo sound. The pedal has a TRS output mainly so you can plug in stereo headphones and practice quietly. Hope this helps!

    Nice vidoe. I use this for my guitar. I used to use another zoom (cheap multi effect) that you could litterarely press a "program" button and litterarely key in the number of the patch that you want. I did prefer that, as i would need to use more than 4 sounds during a gig..i would love if there was an external pedal board/switch so you could control more patches...if it had 8 or 10 then it would be an absolutely perfect pedal, as it would have all the sounds you d need for the entire gig without scrolling through the "banks"

    As far as I know there is no way to get rid of them permanently, aside from maybe booting from another OS and deleting the driver files, but I suspect that may cause issues so I would only recommend trying that if you are happy to mess up your Pc 🤪

    Thanks for teaching me some things about my ZOOM I didn't know, like being able to scroll through all the effects by category. That's nice, because I've often been caught having to cycle through the entire library of effects to find what I was searching for, and it's a wee bit frustrating. I had also wondered about using it on a vocal track, I appreciate the heads-up. FYI I use the ZOOM Gn5 for home recording, and then posting my tunes on YT. I just developed a problem with my stomp switch popping up higher than it should, and what it will take to fix that. That's how I bumped into your channel while searching for a repair video.

    Just splitting stuff into different channels means you can have true polyphony to a degree no keyboard can offer (you could however make use of multiple keyboards or takes but as a music creation device it offers a different approach); I have my YouRock, love that device ...Cost me the same as the Mustang and it was unopened. It also has midi splitting (two options for that and multiple for single channel), alternate tunings ... etc; on top of that you have a wammy bar that gives you bends, and you can hammer/pull off (you can switch between hammer and slide for this effect), volume control, and it has 22 frets... The YouRock is a very interesting tool. Its string sensors leave a lot to be desired (v1 first firmware, and no, can't update it). If you get a Gen 2, the Wammy can do octaves, and you can calibrate just about everything on that thing. I had a bit of an issue with my hands (tendonitis flare up) and during that time... I could play the YouRock! :) Thankfully I'm back and can play anything I want, but yeah that's a cool thing to have. That said, I'd like to try out a Mustang. It must be a lot of fun and it's always fun to have more than one option, plus I've heard some people hacked it and enabled pitch and yaw sensors and remapped the buttons - that sounds like a powerful instrument. As for the Jammy, too few frets so really not worth the expense to have less than a guitar at that point Id use JamOrigin instead and use the high a 8 string that's on its way here or a nylon guitar. You could also go for some fishman; if you're doing midi you want more than 15 frets, I mean, really If you don't expect any of them to work as a guitar but rather as a device that allows some of your guitar skill to transfer over to midi, all of them are great (including the Yammy :P) Great video!
