HistorYEET! | Californian Reacts

Welcome! Born and raised in California, more specifically Orange County (just south of LA), I have always been fascinated in History, Geography, and naturally, Traveling. Growing up, my family would travel quite often, first to Scotland and Ireland to explore the Castles and Historic buildings around their beautiful countries, and wonderful people. Years later, I traveled to Europe and took a Cruise around the Mediterranean and experiencing other colorful Cultures of Europe, Asia, and Africa. Now I'm enjoying learning more while at home of the People, Food, History, Sports, and so much more of countries from around the World and sharing my experiences, as well as asking plenty of questions!

Please join me on this wonderful adventure :) And feel free to ask any questions!

If you're in a wetherspoons pub, (lots in the UK) you can order and pay by using their app while sitting at a table, much better, because you can go the the bar to order food for your table that's numbered, then go back to your table and find someone is sitting there.

In Australia we get 4 weeks annual leave (5 weeks if you work shift work) 10 days of paid sick leave and the Paid Parental Leave scheme currently provides families up to 20 weeks of payment for a child, with 2 weeks reserved for each parent in a couple. In the almost decade I lived in the US I was afraid to get sick even though my company was excellent with healthcare coverage.

One important point was missed: in cricket you must bowl the ball, you cannot just throw the ball like in baseball. The arm must be straight at the point of delivery release.

Guinness is a bit of a cliché. London is the home of porter. There are so many artisan stouts and porters to try. Cask conditioned ale is another try. It's done in the states but I've only seen it on the east coast. Bar tenders won't ignore you. There tends to be no macho stand off. Just be yourself

The poem 'Jerusalem' is by William Blake and it is a commentary on the suggestion that Christ visited England - or rather Roman Britain between his crucifixion and resurrection, the first verse is questions asking 'can this be so' in a mucky place like this. The second verse is the questioner taking inspiration to create a Holy Place of Peace here by valour, love and by intellect.: 'bring me my bow, arrows of desire, Chariot of Fire, not cease from Mental Fight' to create it The tune was written over a century later by Hubert Parry

His use of provisional is a bit confusing I think. All high level cricket played today is professional. The players are contracted to clubs and are paid by them and the international teams they play for. What he is referring to are franchise leagues, which are fairly new and play 20:20 games.

It doesnt necessarily hurt when you catch the ball in cricket. You learn how to let your hands and fingers move with the velocity of the ball. It's difficult to explain but quite easy to demonstrate, though it takes a while to get the hang of it and if you get it wrong it does indded hurt a lot, and you can easily break a finger or a bone in your hand.

T20 is a child play. Most striped down version of the game. Field restrictions, flat pitches, big bats made it more batting friendly. Unfortunately, it's the most famous version I guess. Personally, I'm a sucker for test. It's the most hardest format and the boring one. But it's really hard to resist a match swings between two sides in the span of 5 days. No field restrictions, red ball, bowlers bowl at length without worrying of getting hit, unorthodox field settings, old school commentary.. it's just too good to watch.

Things I know, and things I've noticed about Cricket and Baseball Cricketers lie A LOT about Cricket. Examples: 1) The Bowler can hit the batsman. NO you CANNOT hit the batsman with the delivery. If you do this, the batsman is awarded a point. What IS allowed, is for the batsman to choose to stand where he is blocking the stumps and MIGHT get hit, and if he does get hit, it's on him for standing there. And if he blocks a wicket by doing this, he is dismissed (out) for a Leg Before Wicket. Guess what? If a Baseball Batter steps into the pitch, he's getting hit, JUST LIKE CRICKET. Unlike Cricket, if a Pitcher accidentally hits a batter, the batter doesn't get a point. He gets to go to First base. He still has three more bases to advance to before he gets a point. So in the end, he likely won't get any point at all. Just a huge bruise. 2) We face 100 mph deliveries. NO Cricket batsmen DO NOT face 100 mph (161 kph) deliveries (pitches). 3 Batsman have. That's 3, as in THREE. There have been 3 deliveries 100.1, 100.1 and 100.2 mph to 3 different Batsmen in the ENTIRE history of Cricket, and you are not one of those 3 Cricketers, so shut up about your absurd outliers. Want to know how many baseball pitches are delivered between 100 and 105 mph in JUST professional baseball? In 2021 3,367. In 2023? 3,356. So STFU unless you start your claim with: "This one time, in Band Camp, in a galaxy far far away, I had a friend, who heard from a friend who knew a guy..." . 3) Cricket is harder because we don't wear gloves. NO. You don't wear gloves because Cricket is easier. You don't wear gloves because you aren't fielding 90 - 118 mph (145 - 190 kh) hits. You don't then throw the ball to each other at speeds of 70 - 90 mph(113 - 145 kph). And you DO wear gloves. The Wicket Keeper does.; and he only has to catch balls traveling at a mere 54 - 84 mph (87 -- 132 kph). 4) Hitting is harder in Cricket. A) Riiiiight... I think Cricket scores of 227 - 223 vs Baseball scores of 5 - 3 should be a warning to you. But, unfortunately, you all don't seem too bright. Cricket gives six points for hitting the ball 150 feet up to 200 feet. Baseball? One point. If you are lucky, you MIGHT have 1, 2 or 3 runners on the bases. But Solo home runs are far and away the most common. Oh, and you have to hit AT LEAST 320 feet. Over 400 feet if you hit it over center. Let's put that into perspective. To get 1 point in Baseball, you will need to hit the ball THE ENTIRE LENGTH of a Cricket Pitch. That means you bat from the far end Boundary and you must hit the ball OVER the entire field and clear a 10 foot tall wall, (not a stupid rope on the ground,) to the opposite Boundary 400 feet away. You clowns award 4 points for ROLLING the ball across the Boundary rope. You know what that gets you in Base ball? NO POINTS. B) The ball bounces on a Cricket delivery. And? That happens in baseball too. You can pitch (bowl) that way. They're called low breaking balls. They hit the ground all the time. If they strike home plate with the right angle, they are called strikes.(1 Strike = 1/3 of a dismissal) If you swing at it and miss, it's a strike. (This pitch is similar to your Yorker.) But I find it funny that your claim to fame is that, despite hitting the ground and slowing down up to 40%, where by a flaw on the ground might or might not make the ball bounce oddly, you still manage to score 200 points a game. Considering that an odd bounce is based on ZERO skill and 100% luck that you CANNOT replicate, (otherwise you'd do it every time) I'd think you'd stop bragging about it. Unless you get stumped, it REALLY doesn't matter if every now and then the ball takes an odd hop. There's no penalty other than one less over. You know what happens to you in the baseball batter's box? Pitchers (Bowlers), who do NOTHING else but pitch, like that is their LITERAL career, to be the best at throwing balls that people can't hit, CONSISTENTLY throw pitches that all look the EXACT same until the last ten feet. These are WAY different than your "swingers". First of all, breaking balls aren't based on scuffing just one side of a ball. A scuffed ball is the stuff of legendary nightmares in baseball. Pitchers will make a scuffed ball do things you won't understand. This is why the balls are kept new. But even still, unlike a "swinger", a breaking ball travels completely straight, then suddenly darts left, right, down, diagonally (or even up, when delivered by a submariner.) You know what baseball calls a "full toss"? A "hanging" breakin' ball. I've seen your "swingers" and "spinners". They are not impressive. One way to know this is, there are no compilations of Cricketers "buckling". You know nothing about this, so I have to explain it. This happens when the pitch moves so strangely and heavily that it literally locks up the batters hand eye coordination and his knees go out from under him. You actually sense your brain shut down and your knees go out like you got hit on the reflex nerve. You do a weird knee bend if your lucky. You actually fall down if it really f'ed you up. It is a very weird feeling to feel your body shut down like that. I am telling you right now, baseball pitches do things harder, faster, and FAR more severely than ANYTHING you have ever seen a cricket swinger deliver. Pitchers are throwing junk that looks like the most brilliantly lucky spinner you've ever seen and they do it at their will, over and over. It is not by luck of the bounce. And the pitches ALL look identical because unlike cricket swingers that take a curving path to the batter, baseball pitches do something called "tunneling". They travel stick straight, then in the final moment they break violently and quickly in one of 6 different directions. And they do it at 90mph (145kph). Imagine a stick straight full toss coming in at 90 mph at head high and right when you begin to swing, while in the air, the ball does the most violent hard right diagonal dive to your knees. All of this in the air, happening in microseconds. You think it's okay to hit batters? try a full toss delivery at 93 mph that is a "wide" by 2 feet , suddenly curving in the air in the last 10 feet to nail you in the gut. Again. And again. I must emphasize, this is not a swinger delivery that has begun "swinging" or curving the moment it leaves the bowler's hand due to wind friction on a scuffed ball. This is a brand new ball flying in a straight full toss and CHANGING its flight path in mid air as if it struck something invisible and pitch after pitch wickets you. It is a violent aerial change that YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND. The best batters are paid 100's of millions of dollars and they can only hit the ball 30% of the time or less, There is a reason that ZERO cricketers are playing baseball in America. And it's not because they don't want MULTI-HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR salaries. Cricketer after Cricketer has learned the hard way - they are completely incapable of hitting "full toss" baseball pitches." 5) Cricket is more mental than baseball. It's like chess. Just... WOW. Cricket = hit the stumps once with your bowling Baseball = hit the imaginary stumps or get the batter to think he's protecting the stumps three times. (Strike out) Fail 4 times and batter gets a free base. Foul bowls (those hit out of the side boundaries, they are dead balls) can keep the batter alive indefinitely. Cricket = stumped means play is dead baseball = strike out means play is still live and the batter might be able to steal 1st. Or any runners might be in motion, or even stealing home for a point. Cricket = caught ball, play is dead. Baseball = caught ball means play is still live. If you caught the ball, are the runners stealing? If you're a runner, did you tag up? If not, you'd better get back to were you where. If there are 2 outs are you hauling ass on a ball hit in the air? Or did you accidentally tag up? If you are a fielder, how many outs are there? Where are the runners? Should you allow the ball to drop and try to turn a double or triple? If you are batting, and there is a runner on second, should you hit the ball into the air on purpose for a sacrifice? Or should you keep it on the ground because of who the next two batters are? Cricket = decide if you want to run or not on a hit. Baseball = you MUST run on a hit whether you want to or not. Unless you're a runner and you're not in a force situation. But should you sacrifice yourself at 2nd to get the 3rd base runner in? Cricket = 360 degree play, hit the wicket, play is dead Baseball = 90 degree play. Hits that are accepted in Cricket are rejected in Baseball if not inside the 90 degrees. Instead of 11 players spread out 360, baseball has 9 players in a 90 degree field that is two times deeper than a Cricket pitch. Up to 4 runners can be in play at once and you can only force them out in descending order for a multiple out. If you get lucky, you can tag them out. But this means that fielders will all have to leave their positions to either cover or back up another position. Depending on where the runners are and where the ball was hit, the Pitcher might become the first baseman while the short stop becomes the second base man while the left fielder runs to back up third base, center backs up 2nd base and the right fielder, 2nd baseman and first baseman try to field a ball that was hit at 118 mph. There are dozens of combinations of runners, fielders and ball placement that each require a different approach to running the bases as well as playing the infield. KZread "MLB Run Downs" to see a good example of how Baseball is FAR more chess like than Cricket could even imagine being. Also try "MLB Stolen Bases" "MLB Double Plays" "MLB Triple Plays" and "MLB Bunts" Anyways, Cricketers don't know baseball, and it shows. But that sure as hell doesn't stop them from thinking they know all about it.

Professionals have been around in cricket since the SEVENTEENTH CENTURY!! 'Amateurism' was abolished in the 60's basically because it was a class-bound anachronism. Presumably it only ever applied in England (& Scotland, Ireland, etc.), perhaps the sub-continent, too...? Can't really imagine that anyone ever had any truck with the notion in the Carribean or Antipodes.

Played cricket at school and YES why have a glove to catch the ball.....but i enjoy baseball...cricket theres 11 a d the first 5 are batsman who bat and field....then 2 who are allrounders bowl and bat but yes fiekd too.then theres the bowlers who bowl mostand field....a batsman isnt good at bowling and vise versa.....one day withe white ball 50 over a side ie 6 balls to a over..test is unlimited over 5 days.both sides bat x2 who hasthe most runs wins .in test cricket the ball ages and if you see players rubbin one side of the ball thst helps the ball to swerve in the air.the older it gets the more movemenbut if its sunny not much.cloudy and it does.so there are so many variables in cricket.theres pro teams and non pro teams. Ie every town in england has a crcket who play mostly on su days......ive only found out about the strike zone..i ust to think why is he out he didnt even move his bat....now i know.the ashes are the best cricket spectacle england v australia....5 x 5 days test..the country kinds stands still when on.
