Her band is on a ridiculous groove here (that bass playing is on another level), and Tori's her usual amazing self murdering that Bösendorfer piano through the end of the song. The whole performance just GROOVES. An excellent performance over all, and I really miss this era when ridiculously talented artists like Tori Amos actually could end up on like MTV and be considered "mainstream".

she plays piano the way a rock star plays guitar, moving her body as much as the instrument allows, improvising and showing off like a rock god ego-tripping with a dramatic solo as if time has ceased to exist and it's just him and the guitar, the only things in the entire world. but she doesn't lose herself in the music; she rather becomes herself, and steps into her power. her other performances are full of passion and emotional intensity, and she brings effortless freedom and uninhibited energy to every show, but this one in particular has an almost exaggerated bravado and swagger i've never seen a woman emulate so strongly. but it's not that she's possessed by the music; she possesses it. sometimes she lightly teases and flirts with the piano as if it's her plaything, and appears to seduce the audience, slowly trapping them under her spell; but here, she fully dominates and straddles the instrument. there is a raw primal sexuality to her that is simultaneously very masculine and very feminine. other female singers attack the crowd, snarling from a place of deep pain and darkness, but she pays them no mind, simply kicks the piano's ass and acts on whatever urge she feels. i think she genuinely lives in her own world, does everything for her own pleasure and doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks of her, but also enjoys being in the centre of attention and shamelessly soaks up as much of the spotlight as she can absorb into herself. no one can tame her. she'll bite your face off before you have a chance to open your mouth, and forget you ever existed in the next three seconds. she is a narcissist, an exhibitionist, a brazen androgynous rebel and everything i aspire to be.
