  Is the language barrier difficult to get around? For instance how easy is it to order food in one of the restaurants in the plaza? Or order a drink at the bar?

  I think, generally speaking, overcoming the language barrier isn't that difficult. Especially if you decide to live in Wencui Plaza (Parfait Apartments and Hotel) where most international students live. Plenty of restaurants have an English menu. The most important thing is you just learn a few basic words and sentences and it's enough to get around here. Pleco, a translation app can be your best new friend. FYI: Most international students also take a Chinese course, and you'll get surprised how helpful/friendly the Chinese are and plenty of Chinese speak a few words of English.

  * ICBC Bank at XJTLU stopped giving debit cards to foreigners. It is better to go to Bank of China near Moon Bay.
