    doesn't the metal band (lateral) go around the outside of the vertical supports? Otherwise they aren't working together and can move independently, if the band is on the outside they lock together and "contain" one another (and the concrete) much better.

    Clearest tutorial I've seen about FreeCad. I taught ACAD but now that I'm retired I have to pay A LOT for it. FreeCad is not at all intuitive, so, thanks. Do you have other tutorials?

    Awesome video. I tried watching another video and he was going so fast I couldn't keep up. Even with pausing ti was a pain. Could you do a very quick video on how to convert this to the files necessary to send to JLPCB. Another problem I had was I have kicad 8 so a few things were in different locations. I had to hunt for the text tool.

    Thank you so much for going over the basics. After this video I was able to go off and create pretty much anything that came to mind. I just needed to learn how to begin and this was perfect for that.

    So around 1:23, where he's telling us to go to Patreon instead of telling us what he's actually _doing_, it's like this: Click New (top left icon) to get a blank document. Then click the white 2x2 grid icon, which is Toggle Grid (toggle Draft grid). Now you get some axes, no grid. Then (and this is the missing info -- KZread says this section is "most replayed", go figure) he's scrolling his mouse wheel like crazy and zooming out, from paperclip scale to house scale. If you look at the bottom right corner of the window, there are dimensions. The grid lines are 12 in apart (because you set them by following the "settings used" link... right?) so if you're zoomed in to 3/8 in you'll never see those lines. You need it to show _feet_, and really _tens of feet_, before you'll get a nice grid to look at. (Instead of the mouse wheel you can also do Ctrl-minus and plus to zoom. Macs use Cmd.)

    7:11 That is likely happening because you actually typed 6' 8"' , so it probably adds 6' and 8' and ignores the ", hence why you got 14' in the end.

    Try lofting a tubular part. This requires sketches with two rectangles and one is inside the other. I was using loft to create a rectangular tube which varied in dimension along its length. It worked well except at one section where the inner rectangle and outer rectangle crossed over at one loft section of the loft which made an apex in that section of a solid I wanted to 3d print. I really puzzled for hours trying to eliminate it. Eventually i found the reason. Freecad dies not loft double shapes via inner and outer shapes but it lofts double enclosed sketches in the order you create them. 😂😂😂. Wow. This was not obvious to me.

    .21.2 is the version I just downloaded and it looks nothing like what you have there. Are you still using .18 and .19? Should I download the old ones? or have you redone cylinders on up to date software somewhere else? I doubt it, this was the first result to my search.

  • @mathcodeprint
    @mathcodeprint4 ай бұрын

    This is going to sound odd but, no, stay with your version a lot has improved. It is very hard to keep videos up to date. If you do want to watch thus video just use it to generally inform you of options availble not necessarily as a step by step. Sorry it isnt a good answer but it is the nature of the vast improvements over the last four years.

  • @mathcodeprint

    Thanks for commenting. Nope I have never. This video is about using a tool in FreeCAD. About how to get a result. The maker of the tool was quite happy with the video. Most people understand the context of the video i am pretty sure, wont they use this as an engineering text ... i am sorry to have upset you so much.

    @@mathcodeprint It's not about upsetting me, it's about "teaching" potentially dangerous methods. I suggest reading up on how rebar and structural steel design actually works.

    very nice. you almost showed me what I needed. How to REPLACE a text with mirrored version. Very handy for making maker stamps for ceramics.

  • @mathcodeprint
    @mathcodeprint5 ай бұрын

    So you need the "negative" of a text The idea being that the stamp leaves readable text on the surface of the ceramic. If you want to do it in Draft workbench, you would then move on to Part workbench and make an extrusion. This video is fairly old now and placing text on an object has been improved on part workbench.

    Hi Sorry for the intrusion i am also a learner but have spot some irregularities with your approach or strategy the sketch tools are meant for specific tasks however you are deploying them without precision it is precise to use the curve surface work bench to attach sketch to a sphere or curved objects further to your current approach a sketch will not appear instantly unless it is placed directly on an object thus it keeps asking for reconfirmation when you do so. sincerely

    It would help if each thing was actually explained. Example the FOR command. You demonstrate it as 10 10 100. What are each of these numbers? It made 10 cones, but if you change any of the 10 to 20 it doesn't make 20 cones, it makes 5 and spacing is based on what?
